Am I the only one that thinks the evo 3d is a beast!!!!!

I pretty much bolted out of here as well after I got my Evo and hung out at XDA, rooting and flashing ROM after ROM til I discovered CyanogenMod.

As far as specs are concerned it seems to me like people want their phones to do everything from their taxes to certain sexual favors and then when the phones come out you hear "eh this is just a gimmick. I'm not going to use that", then months all you hear about is how great said gimmick is. Consumers are inherently fickle is all.

I lol'ed at that because it is so true.

how many said.. that the kickstand was just silly???
but now we want it on the next evo or it is not worth an upgrade!

That is so true....I remember the boards last year and alot of people were saying that the kickstand was just a gimmicky feature for the EVO.

Now everyone is screaming about it not being there on the E3D, even to the point of saying the E3D isnt a true successor lol.

My curiousity one the 3D on the EVO 3D, is enough for me to want to get the phone. Sure in general consumerism, 3D is still just a flashy gimmick, but I would like to see how it is done in a practical sense for a phone.

Wouldnt a 3D phone be the first logical step to holographic phones?

Not really. The technologies are completely different. It just happens that holography is MUCH more difficult an engineering task than 3D, so it's likely to appear way after 3D becomes mainstream. Holography does not depend upon current 3D technology to progress, although a new technology of 3D may be discovered that becomes directly relevant toward advancing holography.

After that, we'll need interactive holography so we can invent the holodeck. The porn industry will score big with that kind of tech.

Well, there is also the consumer perspective to think about. The tech may not be too similar, but the consumer adoption of the IDEAs might be very similar, especially if the 3D enabled phones get some cool features that I probably can;t even think of just yet.

if i had a time machine.. this phone would be the last on my list...

wow.. so many possibilities...

Who cares about whether 3D is cool or not?

I want the raw power this phone offers via CPU, ROM, and RAM. Can't WAIT.

Hmmm, now I'm kind of hesitant about the capabilities of this phone. It may be dual core clocked at 1.2 ghz (IIRC) with 1 gig RAM, however, I'm wondering how much the 3D capabilities of this phone will affect the said specs? Quite possibly with the 3D, it may "act" like any other phone out there, with some hickups and lag here and there, due to the phone needing the resources to power the 3D.

I dunno, speculation, but an aspect to ponder upon....

I don't think this is as big of an issue as you may think. Not everything on the phone is running in 3D. Primarily it is for 3D video, pictures, and games. Everyday tasks are not going to be affected.

I sure do hope so, as I am impatiently waiting for the release of this phone :D

HTC - Products - HTC EVO 3D ? Specification
I have this on my Galaxy Tab. I'm not sure it makes a huge difference, but I always enable it.

When I first heard that the next gen Evo was going to have a 3D screen, I didn't really care that much, and was kind of disappointed that HTC resorted to such gimmickry. But after looking at the specs, my jaw dropped. The qHD screen and dedicated shutter button put the Evo 3D ahead of the pack for me.

And just to reiterate, the 3D will not be utilized for the OS and menus. Since the only time you will encounter 3D is if you use the 3D camera, watch 3D video, or play 3D games, you can very easily own this phone and never use the 3D feature.

But I bet you'll take at least one 3D picture. Come on, you know you want to.

i thought that the 3d was also available to in the homescreens too.
so it is always in your face.. unless you use the little switch and turn it off.

The new Sense homescreen is 3D in the sense that it's a spinning cube, but as far as I know, it does not utilize the 3D effect for the homescreens. The 3D/2D switch is for still and video capture only (or at least that's how it was presented in the hands on videos). I assume in app menus are used otherwise.

are we both speculating or does anyone know for 100% sure?

because of the hardware button.. i am guessing it is everywhere. otherwise it would be a virtual switch in the respective applications for it.

This is what I got from the hands on videos.

Also, the 3D is viewable in landscape only, so having the 3D effect in the homescreens would be almost useless since almost everyone uses the phone in portrait.

The 2D/3D slider is there so you can take a 2D photo and then quickly snap a 3D version. It is not to control the display.

Everything I say is fact :)

From all my reading and debating and watching videos, the icons on the home screen have been designed to look like they have the 3D effect but they aren't actually 3D. The switch on the side only turns 2D & 3D On/Off when you're taking videos or pictures. So, if you don't watch any 3D movies, play any 3D games, or take any 3D pictures, you will get very little 3D in your life.

Exactly what I've seen too. Though, in the future, I wouldn't mind if Sense was updated to have a toggle between a 2D and 3D mode that you could choose...although as pointed out earlier, it would only work in landscape (to my knowledge), so it wouldn't exactly be the most useful add on.

BTW, the reason it only works in landscape is that the lenticular lens display can only work on one axis and cannot rotate with the software. And obviously, you can only capture 3D in landscape mode since the cameras would be in the wrong orientation in portrait mode.

The hardware switch is supposed to be for the camera only (this is what the Sprint rep said in one of the videos I watched). They actually did show 3d content had software toggles as well.
