Amazingness of navigator!!

yes, using nav while playing or streaming music is awesome! i did it on my Moto Droid a few times. i haven't gotten a chance to use it on my Inc yet, but i'm sure it works the same, if not better.

I have noticed that here in NYC it tries to put me on the most direct route. Which is not necessarily the fastest.

At first I thought it knew because of traffic it was trying to take me off of 495 and onto side streets.

But now that I have used it a few times, I see that its just trying to do direct route.

Which is all fine and good if you have no idea where you are. I was just hoping it would route me around congestion.

It saved me this past weekend the gps in my car wouldnt allow me to type in the place i wanted to go(it was relatively new) whipped out my phone and programmed it in and took me right there....Love it!!

Maybe a stupid question, but where do you guys set your phone when you are using navigation. Normal GPS have window mounts, do you have one for the phone or just set it on the console or something.

Thanks!

I had an old iPhone mount that I used for my Samsung Omnia. I melted the end clips just enough that it was plyable, and stretched them about 1/4" further out. It works, and a lot cheaper than buying a new mount :D Plus you can't really tell it was melted except for a little bubbling on the back ;)

with my Moto Droid i had the Verizon windshield mount which is pretty much a GPS mount. for my Incredible, i just received this:

it's made by Arkon. it will be used mostly just to hold it while playing or streaming music, but will be fine for turn by turn directions. it's a little out of the usual line of sight while driving, but it'll be speaking turn by turn through my car stereo so it'll be fine.

I found that even if I don't have a nice car mount for it, I can just hook it up to the speakers, or have it sound by itself, and the voice directions are usually enough to get me where I need to go.

Also, the speed of the visuals is amazing. It doesn't "lurch" forward between calculations like many GPS units or phones do, it just slowly moves forward while the map changes. It's buttery smooth.

On a recent trip to Colonial Williamsburg, besides the NAV working well, the public transportation option is amazing as well. Based on your location and a destination selected, you can click on the icon of the bus and you'll get information for the next available bus.

I don't know how small or large the community is that this option will work but it worked perfectly for me.

The navigation is spot-on and the GPS is soooo much more accurate than my iPhone's. Love the voice nav and love that I can tell TomTom to shove it with their paid map updates!

question, can you rotate this?

Seriously. When you are using the navigator, if you zoom all the way in on the upcoming next location, it gives you an actual real-life satellite image of the street/intersection, etc. SO AMAZING![/QUOTE

I cant believe this is free. I have an aux in faceplate on my stereo and I put on Google maps The other day driving to palm springs it did voice direction thru my truck speakers then i had pandora going as well. It would play the music then when the nav had something to say it would cut the music and say the nav piece then go back to music... like it a lot.

How did you do that! When I syn to my car radio the voice turn by turn talk doesn't work. When I disconnect the bluetooth pairing to the radio it does work.
