Amazon App Store Thread - Daily Free Apps

I really should download today's game "Streetfood Tycoon: World Tour", just because I had an idea for something similar when I worked in fast food. It would have involved bussing tables, arranging the maximum number of dishes in the bus tray in order to keep up with the lunch rush. Unfortunately, it was 1983... the graphics on my TRS-80 weren't really up to the task. (Though we did have Root Beer Tapper in the arcade.)

Today's app is an invitation for everyone to say, together now, "Where have the quality free apps gone?" It's... a battery monitor. The only difference between it and a hundred free battery monitor apps already on the market, is that this one is marked down from 99c.

The "Users also purchased" section includes such gems as a 99c "Signal Booster" (not an actual possibility) and a $1.99 app that says "Charge Me!" if your battery gets low. So I guess there's a market for "nothing for something". (It just doesn't happen to include anyone on this forum.)

today is a game called "Abalone"

it has a lot of bad reviews.. about too much permissions.
the main one about finding location of device.
but over in the play store.. there are no Location permission. Did amazon add this?

in the play store.. is one permission that look very odd.
it wants permission too find all user created accounts on the phone.. one that are created buy other apps! what the hell???

again... today's free app: Battery Stats Plus Pro.

amazon's reviews.. all complain about permissions.
wanting to have access to user information and files.
and only works when internet is available.
getting 2.5 star

on google play store.. it has 4 stars.
and none of these permissions are required!!!!

WHAT THE FOOCK IS AMAZON DOING?????????

Well, to be fair, the Google Play version does request Internet access.

It's crazy - paid apps that want Internet access and more. I think they figure they've boiled the frog to the point where nobody notices that we give away everything just to get the latest game. Maybe they're right.

Today's free app is "All-in-One Mahjong". My wife installed it on her Fire and calls it "AWESOME". Reviewers seem to agree - 130 out of 150 reviews are 4 or 5 stars. Looks like Amazon may have actually put a winner out there.

it has been a long time since they put something of value up.

I know it is free.. but a few looked more like spyware.

7/28- Azada

"Azada, from Big Fish Games, is what you might get if a giant walking magic puzzle strolled into your living room and exploded!"
CasualExplosion.com

"With great graphics and varied puzzles Azada will definitely find a home on any puzzle-solving fan

7/30: "Factory Balls". "The objective of the game is to change the shape and color of a white ball and match a picture pasted on the side of the open box... with the tools provided." Has good reviews and no crazy permissions. I'm gonna grab it and suggest it for my wife's Fire, too.

Good, I think this free app thing is nice .but i do not understand how It reduces the amount of code require for each app to implement DRM

I have just discovered that most apps from amazon require an internet connection. Why? The same app on google doesn't. Very poor for taking abroad where I not have a connection and want to play a game.

No clue. I wonder the same thing. Most of these FAOTD ask for more permissions than they need. Today's PDF Reader app is an example.

Today's app, "PicShop - Photo Editor", is being roundly slammed because it's got a bug that prevents modified images from being saved or shared. Maybe it's fixed - the one-star reviews are from late 2012, and five-star reviews outnumber one-star reviews 6 to 1. It's a $5 app, so it might be a good deal... if it works!

Nope. I tried it. It has some really cool edit features but does not save them to your gallery. It looks like it is designed specifically to share photos on FB.

Today's app is "Core Dive", a tilt-play app that's worth noting because it requests no permissions other than to keep your phone from sleeping.

I've found that the frequency with which I check Amazon for the free app is dwindling more and more. In the beginning I used to check in every day, then every other day, or even every few days, to see what I missed (usually nothing I was interested in).

I've noticed I can't even see what the prior day (or few days) free app was anymore. Does anybody know a good way to view these?

So true. Today's FAOTD is a children's storybook, normally $2.49, that is crazy infested with adware. One reviewer was nice enough to list the *ten* advertisers and analytics providers included in the app. That would be ridiculous for a free app, much less for one that costs.

Yeah that one was loaded with permissions for no apparent reason.

Today's app is Joining Hands. It looks like a kids game, but it isn't.

Today's FAOTD is "Missile Defender". 1444 reviews like a 4.75 star rating. Permissions don't look overly excessive - but - I'm no expert on that. A really fun app.
