Root Amon_RA recovery

can anyone give me some details as to how to install the Amon RA recovery? I know where to find it, in the Kernels and ROM thread..but I couldnt find any good installation instructions. also, will I have to reset/wipe my phone? I dont ever look forward to doing that!!!
