Do we really think the Desire will get Android 3.0? I'm not convinced.
HTC have just released two new Desire phone running 2.2 and the new Sense UI, they will have to bin their UI and - like they've done on WP7 - create apps to mimic what Sense currently does.
Android 3.0 can't be skinned and the big deal for HTC phones is their Sense UI.
I can see HTC releasing phones in 2011 that will be built to support 3.0, but I think the three Desire phones will always be 2.2
I am happy to be proved wrong, I love updates and new stuff, but I just can't see it happening. We're still waiting to see if the Desire will get the new Sense (please yes!)

whether its an official release or not, I think we will see 3.0 on the desire. The development community will find a way... lol. :0)

It's for Three branded handsets, otherwise Three wouldn't announce it. The unbranded phones got the update months ago.

Regarding Android 3.0, I doubt it will be an official release for the current unrooted desire. More likely it will be offered to Android tablets and next gen phones.
