Android 2.1 for Hero??

Nothing will win over iPhone fanbois, except the Apple logo and a keynote speech from their god, Steve. They would all say that Android and the Hero are sh*t, but 5 minutes after saying that, if Steve keynoted about it, and then Apple released exactly the same thing, with exactly the same designs - no changes, they would all say it's the best thing in the world. And they are dumb enough to then point to EXACTLY THE SAME THING, but with the Google logo on the back, and say it sucks.

Just enjoy your phone and let the fanbois be idiots. We CANT win them over and we DONT WANT TO. We DO want to keep the the MASSES from going iPhone, though, and that will take MORE and BETTER advertising than the DROID ads.

They are okay, and they are starting to work, but they are turning the word "Droid" and the Moto Droid into barndnomers for ANDROID. And I dont like that. GOOGLE needs some ads, and HTC needs some better ads.

I'm hearing too many people say "That's not Droid" when I show them my ANDROID phone (Sprint HTC Hero). That's good for Verizon, but not good for Android.

And be patient. 2.0 or 2.1 will be here when it's ready. Take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy the rest of the month. It will be a happy New Years present to you.

I think that proves you aren't a fanboi. You simply choose the best phone for you at any given time. For a while that WAS the iPhone. Now there's great competition.

The fanbois would use a ZERO FEATURE phone, with a SINGLE button that you had to type everything out in morse code - if it had an Apple logo and Steve announced it. That's what they do.

I actually heard people say "That looks like it will be awesome... but I'm not sure how well it will work." about the following video... PROVING that while they instinctively KNOW something is bad, they will still say it's AWESOME simply because it's Apple.

Just saying.

Build it and they will come! No matter what they say... 1st gen. iPhones had its issues too so comparing apples to apples (lol) i'd say they (fanbois) will be drooling very soon. One big difference is that we don't have to wait a year and buy another unit to get improved functionality... so take that! Apple lovers... lmao...

Okay Soo I'm completely new at this still but I every so often just check the firm ware update on my phone just habit it now..and it'll normally say no updates at this time or whatev...but today around like three ish it's been saying "The Firmware update could not be completed. Please try again later. If problem persists you may need to contact Customer Service Error code:1012" could this mean something..or nothing? like I said I'm new and not sure if could mean anything to 2.0 or 2.1 whatever we are getting

he said he didn't know when it was coming but the Sprint Rep had mentioned it to him and it would offer some of the features that the droid has like google nav.
I have something to add to this exciting news. I overheard some guy say that he heard that Android 2.1 was going to better than 1.5 in some unspecified ways. And I think I might have heard somebody else say that the version number was definitely going to be higher. I wanted to share this with everyone right away. ;)

I dont think things are looking very good at this point.

HTC exec promises Hero successor in 2010, debut at Mobile World Congress -- Engadget

Apparently HTC is announcing the successor to the Hero in February. Depending on the release date of that phone, I wont be surprised if Hero (both Sprint and Euro) 2.x updates are held of until after the launch of that phone.

If 2.1 is ready around Feb, and all "OLD" Heros have 2.1, then what can they possibly have to announce in the NEW Hero that is all that much better than the existing one? it would only make sense to launch the new one with 2.x, holding off on the update for the old ones, then update the old ones after the excitement has died down.

I hope I'm wrong, but I dont think it will be very smart marketing to release a next gen phone that essentially already exists in the marketplace.

you can only hope they offer it to us.

of course the phone already does so much, its not like an iPhone update where you get to actually MMS!! I say that because I was sooo excited when that update was released for my 3GS and then I realized, "Wait a minute, I just got extremely excited about being able to MMS on one of the most sophisticated phones on the market!"

As you can see I now own an Android phone LOL!

Plus don't forget the desire that a phone carrier has to compete with AT&T and the iPhone, any progression to a more updated OS makes the competition much better.

Just think two years ago if you wanted the best you had an iPhone and now times are changing because technology is catching up to Apple, like I said in my last post the iPhone has only been able to MMS for like 3-4 months!

Just a little clarification: technology is not "catching up with Apple". Apple has always been BEHIND in that, as your MMS comments point out. Tons of phones, going back to 2003 and even earlier, were far more capable than the iPhone. When the iPhone came out, it was the FIRST OF IT'S TYPE. It failed miserably at many BASIC functions, but it was the first "app phone" and the first with multi-touch touchscreen. Now there are more phone/options in that class, and they cant stand on their minor yearly updates anymore. Of course the fanbois will still spend ******** amounts of money buying the new minor upgrades each year, but the rest of the world will be made aware of the wonder world of Android.

Of course they will all call it "Droid" and think it's only on Verizon, but as long as it hurts Apple's bottom line, I'm happy.

If the droid eris is running sense ui, dont know, and is basically a hero, and the eris is getting the upgrade to android 2.0 on Dec 11 shouldnt we be getting it as well?
Where did you read that the Eris is getting a Android 2.0 update on Dec. 11? If you can provide a link, I can probably 'splain to you how you mis-read it. ;)

I think you may be wrong because the biggest improvement to the Hero's successor could very well be 4G data. That's the only selling point it would need. :D
