Android 2.1 / Moto Droid

shit, I can't wait any longer, its like crack, they gave me just a little to get me hooked now I'd give them my house and kick a baby for the update.

January 22nd has been thrown around as an update date for us. I'm waiting until then to see if anything happens. If we don't see anything by that time, then I'll start to worry.

I know there was talk about "in a few days" last week about android 2.1 releasing on the droid.

Has anyone heard anything?

Don't worry, bro... the first time someone hears something official, it will be posted all over the place. You won't be able to miss it, I'm sure.

In the meantime, though, this thread was merged with the one just like it from a few days ago. No need really for 300 threads like this one. ;)

It's here...Android 2.1 has been released.

This should mean that the Devs will be able to easily (or at least more easily than before) fix up issues w/the 2.1 ports they've been working on.

I'm expecting we'll start seeing updated Droid 2.1 ROMs in the near future to play with. Seems like this is worth a woot!

Android Developers

Wow... another thread on this.... If you want 2.1 so bad, root.

why is it people have to obsess over this board. I searched for android 2.1, found nothing. and knew that if I asked, someone would give me flack. Grow up!

don't read the thread if you have seen others like it. Especially don't comment.
Ok homer?

For the official Verizon Android 2.1 update for the Droid?

Doesn't really mean anything in that terms. We have heard from the Moto CEO that the Droid is going to get 2.1, but he didn't say when.

all the announcement means is that the android 2.1 OS is available in phones (ie N1) right now.

It in no way means that it is available as an update right now.

The announcement is meant to let developers know to update their SDK to take advantage of phones that have 2.1

I would not expect an OTA for moto droid anytime soon. Since 2.1 is just now available, it will need to be optimized for use with the Droid then tested by Verizon, etc etc

At least a few weeks at best, but more likely later this year

I agree with the two in before me. I say we have it before January ends. Most likely around the 22. I believe that this means that 2.1 has been released as Open Source and therefore Motorola can now take it.

Exactly....and if motorola wants to keep its customers happy they should have it ready to go before we know it

EDIT: Oh and verizon...we have all seen how quickly they got 2.0.1 out...we should have 2.1 in no time

Just kidding bro. Lots of posts get missed, that is why many of them get merged later on. No need to feel offended if someone posts a comment you don't like. This is the internet, so it is bound to happen eventually. ;)

April 27, 2009 - 1.5 SDK came out
May 18-25, 2009 - Then it became available to the public OTA

About 3 weeks, so end of Jan. I think.

(information taken from a poster on droidforums.net ... just want to site my source) ;)

three weeks would be the beginning of feb.

Common. Did you just pull that out of your butt or what?

I'll bet you we have it before the end of the month.

I did say few weeks at best, though I would not be surprised if it took longer.

January has another service update slated for release - any "major" upgrade, such as 2.1, will likely come after that

Besides, what did you think later this year means? November? If I had to guess, based on service releases and upgrades of past, a few months tops. That would put any major upgrade around Q2
