Android 2.1 Update

I still dont know if I should click 'Install' or not......

I would rather live with a pop up then kill my phone.
 
before you do it.. please check what version of facebook you have. if you have 1.1.1 please try and download the update from the market. let us know if it works or not.

i want to see if my theory is correct. people who have 1.1.1 and cannot dl the update are the ones receiving this OTA upgrade

Where does it list the version.
FB does not show up under 'Manage Applications' , nothing listed in the FB setting menu.
 
Settings>Applications>Manage Applications IRRC...find the Facebook app and tap on it.

You'll have to also change a setting in Manage Apps to display both system and 3rd party apps - can't remember waht that setting is called right now...
 
Settings>Applications>Manage Applications

and then hit the menu button. you'll see the word "filter". select "all running apps" you'll be able to see everything on the phone. find facebook

I have not clicked on the update.
My Facebook App. is version 111

Should I update?
 
yea i want to know, if you have facebook 1.1.1 and you cant download the facebook app from the market if thats why you will get this update.

im just giving my experience. i had 1.1.1, i could download facebook in the market but it wouldnt install and gave me a package signed error. this update fixed this

try to download facebook from the market before doing the OTA update, see if it works.. if not, let me know what it says. if it does let me know either way

You are correct.

Facebook installation unsucussfull.

haha perfect. now download the OTA update, let it reboot your phone and then try to download the facebook update from the market.

see if it works. if so, this update is simply to fix the problem where we couldnt download the newest version of facebook. it was corrupt some how and since we dont "technically" have root access we cant fix it. it then required an OTA update
 
Hey guys.. I have. Facebook version 112 and I have not done any updates besides 2.0.1 when it came out.. I doubt the update fixed facebook

So how do they know what phones have bum facebook apps? I don't have facebook so didn't update from the market, what if mine is 'bad' but I don't know it? Or, what if I did have facebook but didn't realize there even was an update (or ignored the 'update available' notification) so still don't know mine doesn't work...?
I realize that's probably a silly question, but really, how do they know affected handsets if it's never even been activated? Suppose I create a fb page after the 2.1 update but my app was crap to begin with, does 2.1 fix it anyway? If that's the case then why not just wait for 2.1 instead of sending OTA fixes now (is fb really that huge?)?
Just wondering...
 
I had version 1.1.1, just went and installed 1.1.2 without any issues. I havent had any OTA update since 2.0.1 came out(which i updated manually by the way). Dont know if that changes anyones idea on what this new update is for.

Droid Forum - Covering all Verizon Droid Phones & the Motorola Droid

"We were expecting an update to happen this week beginning on January 22nd but folks its arriving early! Verizon is pushing out a 61.4 MB maintenance release today ahead of schedule that should get users excited for whats soon to come. We haven't seen reports of the version / build number change, although we believe there is still something going on behind the scenes and soon, that will update to 2.0.1 ESD59.

Our sources have indicated Android 2.1 has passed all internal testing on the Droid and a target is to have all Droids updated before the end of the month. This patch had added some minor fixes and preps the phone for a smooth Android 2.1 RELEASE. To be clear, the forthcoming immediate update is not 2.1, but a precursor to smooth the transition to 2.1 which will follow within the next couple of weeks. Stay Tuned, more details to come!

one of those "minor fixes' was probably for facebook.

its pretty easy to figure out.. they simply run a version check on everyones phone. see who has 1.1.1 and who doesnt. if you have 1.1.1 its probably that u cant update and some might have 1.1.1 and can update but havnt tried. they figure they can cover all bases by just updating anyone with 1.1.1 software

Ive had my droid for a week now and I didnt have a OTA update today. I had a OTA update the day i bought it 1 week ago, but not today and my facebook has been running fine ever since i bought it
 
I too was having the same Facebook issues but have not gotten the weird ota update. Well my Facebook started working all of a sudden and I never agreed to an update of any sorts. Its still running Facebook verym 111. Perhaps its a coincidence that Facebook is working for everyone now AND they got a phantom ota update? Hell... I dunno. :)
 
I manually updated the phone to 2.0.1 when it was made available around teh Net. I, more recently, updated to FB 112 - and I have not received an OTA update notification.

It seems that this is, in fact, an update specifically for the Facebook app.

however, I am almost tempted to perform a hard reset and see what happens - except for the fact that I have classes starting back tomorrow....

go download the update from the market.
