Help Android 2.3 (gingerbread) possible for the Optimus S?

Hey Maajk1,

What rom are you using? I cannot find one using 2.3. I am using the reborn rom. Thanks for your help.

You wanna use Cyganogenmod 7 custom rom. Its a Android 2.3 build. I currently use it. I'm using nightly 04282011. No bugs. Wi-Fi, data, everything works. Thanks to jondevere and Drewwalton for the help.

Thanks for the quick response. Dizzle. Are there device dependent builds? I found the 04282011 nightly but is this compatible with all phones?

I noticed that there is a supported device section on their website. http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices Didn't see the optimus s. Thanks again.

When I checked the list the optimus s was not listed as well but I know for a fact its supported, there us definitely a version of cyanogenmod 7 for the optimus s. I had a ton of help installing mines. It was practically done for me. To be sure I would post a thread and get more experienced answers lol. Definitely visit forum.androidcentral.com as well. That's where I got helped @. I wanna say flash that nightly and try it

It's a great rom. The keyboard and battery management alone are worth it. Also check out "theme Chooser" which adds a whole new level of customization

Something tells me that IF we get 2.3 it won't be for a long time. If and when we do I can bet this will be the LAST android upgrade this phone gets. I don't think these companies will spend the time and effort to keep "older" phones up to date when their latest and greatest phones come out every 6 months or less.

Gingerbread works great on my LG Optimus S... and on my Sprint Hero.... they'd love you to upgrade your hardware... but you don't need to.
