Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) Update for Optimus S rolling out now

I just took the update and having zero problems so far, I will post any problems i may get if i get any. So far so good..Im having no issues that others have posted.

Yeah I'm having 0 problems as well. I just got the update this morning on my wifes phone. That's probaly why they release it in waves to be able to identify problems in the first wave.

With so many problems being reported, I feel fortunate that my S and my wife's both updated to Gingerbread without a hitch, and have had no problems. I think it switches between 3G and Wifi much smoother now, handy in my house with weak wifi. I think memory management is handled a tab better now too.

I just got the update this morning. I didn't even know about this until I couldn't access my instant messenger!! UGH I can't log into AIM ... Does anyone else have this issue? Does anyone know how to fix this issue?!?! Please help
It seems that I still have 3G and internet access everything else seems to be working okay.

Uninstall and reinstall app... so far so good, even though annoying.

My update arrived last night. I applied it and went to sleep. Everything seemed to be working this morning. But after checking, I noticed that it had been running on batteries for nearly the last 5-6 hours...basically, that it stopped charging as of the update.

Unlike some others, I cannot get the phone to charge AT ALL. Maybe mine is charging uber-slow as someone else posted. Unless someone knows how to repair this, I'm probably going to visit the Sprint store later today to see if what they can do.

Did you try installing the USB drivers on a computer and charging there?
That eventually worked for me, but I never had a problem with the original charger either.

I thought I didnt or my wife had any problems with the update. But now the phone wont charge via wall charger. I installed the driver via the link you posted and got it to charge through the computer. But it wont charge with the original charger or any other wall or car charger for that matter. This sucks.

Battery charge indicator no longer working. For a while, the new indicator was working (battery icon "fills up" and then refills to show it is charging). Then it stopped again, and battery stopped charging. Cold reboot (removed battery) and now it is charging again, but indicator doesn't work.

Keyboard is cute--buttons are smaller with more space around them...but autocorrect is gone.

I'm sure I will run into more problems (doesn't seem to be syncing with my mail servers very well). If Sprint doesn't clean up this mess pretty quickly, I'm switching to iPhone and suing them for the balance of my contract (failure to provide service).

I've had a few small problems since the update. 1) All of my pictures have vanished from the Gallery, (good thing I back them up online). 2) Sprint Total Protection App will no longer work on my phone, ("Unsupported phone: Please check supported handsets at www.sprint.com/protection for updated information." I tried three times to reinstall it, no go). 3) New keyboard is just bad, funky, trash. I will install another one as suggested.
Otherwise the phone is ok. I can use the wall and car chargers and the computer to charge the phone. USB tether is working, (using computer to type this.) Cant figure out wifi tether yet. I have read all post about Rooting, (sounds very messy) not decided. And MOST of all, I want to get flash on my phone. Off to do more research.

Thank you all for your help. :D

I got the update 2 days ago without any problems. After the Update, I also updated the Firmware,Profile and PRL. Then Rebooted. 100% fine. The update even fixed a problem I was having before. App updates failed when the app was located on my SD Card. I worked around that by Unmounting the SD card, installing the App, Remounting the SD Card, then move the App to the SD Card. Whatta' B17(# that was. I was really happy that Gingerbread fixed that problem

Tested the car charger and that too works fine for me. That was the only thing left for me to test since the update was installed. Still no issues for me like many others are seeing. There are a few of us that had no issues so I am not alone. I really wonder how some have zero problems and some have all kinds of problems? There has to be some other variables? My phone was all stock and never messed with.

I got the new update yesterday and am not pleased. The main problem I'm having is that any time I type on the keyboard, the AutoCorrect/word suggestion only includes names from my email or address book -- no regular words from the dictionary. Grrr. I've tried re-booting, unchecking and re-checking the Word Suggestion settings, and still nothing. It's making typing slow and a mess. Any suggestions??

Mine is doing this too. Have you found a solution?

Use the Swype keyboard or download the Gingerbread keyboard app and it will be fine.

I noticed another thing I like about the 2.3, the volume in call is louder than before. For me this has all been a great update. Being that nothing got messed up and everything works as before has some to do with it. :) I'm sure if I had some issues like some do I might be singing a different tune but since the update has been flawless for me and I actually like the color and some of the other features, I have no complaints. The icons did get a little smaller in the notification bar but I can live with that.

Big problems for my wife's S after the Gingerbread update. Fast discharge, won't charge through USB from PC, PC won't recognize phone. There may be more, that's all we've found so far.

And furthermore, my gmail isn't syncing.Checked the settings, and they are still set the way they were.
EDIT- duh- guess that's cause I have no data connection.

USB storage not working either. Windows does the "find new hardware" thing- before I could just plug in USB, and the phone would ask me if I wanted to turn on USB storage.

I really liked my phone yesterday...

I downloaded the LG Android driver from the LG site get it from here:

LG Optimus S LS670 Purple Cell Phones & Mobile Phones - LG Electronics US

And yes the Purple update works on black phones just fine. In addition to letting you mount the SD card it gives your computer access to the unit's USB modem, USB serial port and GPS NEMA port.

I imagine that some folks zapped the firmware that was installed by Sprint to kill the free Hotspot.

Still waiting for some kind of proper fix or announcement of how to roll back to Froyo. Anyone heard anything?
