Android 4.4.2 KitKat confirmed for Galaxy S3

(NE6), updated with Kies, re-rooted with TowelRoot.

I was livid when I found out I couldn't write to the sd card, but luckily the root workaround worked.

The first charged, I noticed that "hot battery drain" we used to see in 4.1.1 when "Media" ran int he background. Hopefully that goes away. Other than that, no huge difference. Yes battery life is worse.

Does anyone know if the KitKat update will reach S3 phones under Straight Talk? I haven't found any information on that yet. Mine's still running JB. Info much appreciated. :)

I think straight talk stops and blocks all otas. I was with them for three years and never was able to get an ota

I just updated my Verizon S3 and now any contact with the same last name have been combined into one contact, and I cannot find anybody by their first name as it only displays one contact with the same last name.

Ok guys I'm new here but not exactly new to flashing or rooting. I'm having a problem here with the new update.....

I used to be on a rooted custom mk5 build and wanted the new update to kit Kat but couldn't because of my custom Rom/recovery so I flashed through ODIN the ONLY stock Rom I could find which was a Sprint variant and from there I updated to the kit Kat update being released. For some reason my data stopped working afterwards so I did some searching and found a build that supposedly was the exact same update released by virgin mobile with modem included. I flashed it last night and still my data doesn't work. Any suggestions? Right now I don't even care about the update, I just want my data working again! I tried posting a screen shot but for some reason it didn't work. I'm on the ND8 build.

Not real happy right now. Battry goes even faster. Biggest issue is my phone no longer goes off after the preset time. I have tried different settings and no go. Have to remember to push the button. If a reminder goes of, phone will stay illuminated. Also, I have an error message at the bottom of screen that I cannot make go away. Message says "message expired or not available". Have done numerous resets. This message is always on top and covers many keys on my texting key board.
Any good ideas? For the very first timr in my life, I am thinking about my next phonr being an Apple!!!!!!

Nd8 is sprint. Virgin is NDC. Are you on virgin? Have you tried the APN fix? http://androidforums.com/showthread.php?p=6516416

I just tried to use Wakelock Detector and got a message that I have to be rooted now to see the wakelock details :(. I don't want to root just for 1 app (yeah, no idea how to root or why else I'd want to do it...). Are there any other wakwlock apps that work with Kitkat or is this something that will be blocked across the board?

You can root just by installing 2 apps; towelroot, and then supersu. Then unroot in settings in SuperSU. Easy peasy.

Rooting makes me a littlw twitchy just because I'm not exactly sure what it does. I mean, I know it's basically full access, but the lingo is all over my head and I'm afraid of bricking my phone!

Rooting won't brick you, its what you do to your phone afterwards that can brick you. Lol. But stay in your comfort zone for sure. I was just sharing a little info that its easy to do and undo.

Okay, I've read around a bit. My phone is older and I can upgrade via ATT Next if something does happen. We're not paying for phones right now. I'm going to try TowelRoot. Thank you!!

I wasn't trying to talk you into rooting, just letting you know its easy with the s3. Remember after towelroot, get SuperSU from the play store.
