Help Android 4.4 (KitKat) help/discussion

I encourage you to send a ticket to HTC and express your distaste. The only way HTC can make things better is for people who use their products to send them feedback.

I know it perhaps feels good to express your opinion on a public forum, but HTC do not monitor these pages. Tell it to 'em straight to their face. ;)

In the meantime and between time, give poweramp a try.

I just have to say it's awful (with newest system update). I have to to press the forward next song button (right arrow) 3 times on average for it to respond, annoying. Earlier system didn't have this problem. They are always fixing and rearranging things that aren't broken.

I listen to music daily with the stock music player and have not seen this, could it be something with the screen sensitivity? Not sure if it matters but I use a Nova launcher for my home screen, I'm on Sprint and running KitKat 4.06.651.9 not rooted. Is this what your screen looks like coming off screen lock?

So i dont have the One but my desire 601 is basically the same interface as you guys, on 4/24 we are supposed to be getting kit kat and i just want to know if you guys thought the update was worth it.

I have read the thread and it seems the biggest problem is losing flash in a browser, this is a pretty big deal to me and i dont understand why this update breaks the functionality of flash. Is this still a problem with kit kat?

I am kind of torn here because there is a known issue with the desire 601 of the top speaker randomly not working, no one knows exactly what causes it but it definitely is software releated because plugging in a set of headphones OR restarting phone will fix the problem, so everyone on our forum is hoping kit kat will fix this.

I dont have a ton of stuff on my phone yet as i recently got it so if i hated kit kat i could always do the factory reset i guess, still would like to hear some opinions of people that did the update, thanks.

Getting rid of flash support isnt a bug in KitKat, it was fully intended. Flash is buggy, insecure, and its demise on mobile has been known for the past couple of years. At this point, websites need to adapt or be left behind.

Also just wanted to mention that a factory reset won't undo the OTA update. It just wipes userdata, not the system partition.

It might be best to wait a few weeks after if comes out for your device to determine of its worth it

O.o i thought factory reset wiped the kit kat update, guess i was wrong! Im not gonna pretend i know the problem with flash on mobile that you mention, but losing it will be a problem for me.

You are probably right, ill wait a bit to see if anyone on the 601 forum is having issues with the update, let them be the guinea pig lol.

I upgraded to 4.4.2 last night and now my status bar at the top of the screen is only black/white. It used to have some color in there - the battery bar was green, missed calls were red, etc. App notifications are still in color so maybe this is just how things are with Kit Kat.

I also no longer have the ability to set a lockscreen picture or custom notifications, that's certainly disappointing.

I have a HTC one and ever since my last update I can't drag down to get rid of the icons at the top...please help me someone..

Hi, it may be worth trying a 'wipe cache partition'.

It has cleared a number of things for me recently, like apps stopping. I've done it as a matter of course after the last few updates.

Hope this helps.

Can I do this while being completely stock

UPDATE:

Hey guys I just tried wiping the cache but nothing changed but it doesn't say Google now has it says Google search has stopped I got it wrong in my other post lol

im having strange issues with my phone.

1: it will all of a sudden not receive any text.. and then an hour later, 5 or 6 will come in at the same time(from different people) ive never had this issue before kitkat. . this is completely random, I have no idea what can cause it.

2: group messaging does not stay enabled anymore, seems every few hours it disabled itself, and I need to re-enable in mms settings.

this is an HTC One with Tmobile. phone worked perfectly before kitkat, now software issues are present. any ideas?

before the Verizon update, my homescreen was able to have a slideshow from a specific album. after the update, got a default homescreen, but now I can't have more than 1 picture as a background. Was that option removed as I can't seem to find it anywhere

hopefully you were not rooted when you took the update.

if a soft reset doesnt work, many times with firmware updates that are major, a factory reset is highly recommended.

i dont use the feature you use, so its possible its been removed/broken in this update.

Any word when HTC One will receive Android update?

Google delivered a surprise in the form of its Android 4.4.4 KitKat update for its Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, and Nexus 4. The Android 4.4.4 KitKat update replaces the recent Android 4.4.3 KitKat update as Google

HTC probably received the update around the time Google released it for their phones. Now HTC has to add their stuff to it and test it before they'll release it. That takes a while. ("A while" can be anywhere from a week to a few months, so a guess is worthless. Even the people working on it at HTC couldn't come up with any realistic release date. That's how it is with software. One little problem can take weeks to find. [Look at how many years it took to find some of the problems that have always been present in OpenSSL. Just to find the problems, not even to find the causes.])

Since updating to Kitkat i've noticed that the stock Mobile Data widget i used to have just a swipe away from my Home screen has disappeared. This is kind of annoying since now i have to go into Settings whenever i want to switch on or off my mobile data. Is there a way of getting it back? If not, is there a widget i can download that will do this?

Hi, there is still a mobile data widget although it changed with Sense 6.0, there is also a mobile data toggle in the two finger pull down menu which I find very convenient to use along with all the main toggles eg wifi, gps, airplane etc.

Hope this helps.

:)

Hi,
I tried to update my M7 to sense 6 but when I did the camera and gallary app disappeared, I then factory reset it and it didnt return
I can't use the play store and I'm constantly getting notifications about google plus not being installed
My phone isn't rooted

Welcome to the forums!

I have moved this thread to the HTC One forum to get you some better answers :)

Why can't you use the Play store? What error do you get when you try and use it?

I just got the HTC One M7 and did the update to Kit Kat. I hate these emojis, and they show up in Google Hangouts too! Why can't I use the adorable ones provided in Google Hangouts?

Ok, I have researched this. There is the AndroidEmoji-HTC.ttf file that is blocking the old, awesome emojis and the google hangout emojis and supposedly this was done to make things compatible between ios and Android, but Android had it right! Make Apple change their UGLY emoji!
