Android Ascend.. Sucks.

Hello, I just came to this website to complain about how horrible of an experience i'm having with my new android ascend. I haven't had a phone in over 2 years and i finnaly took 150$ of my hard earned money and bought this piece of crap. I've had it for about a week and its already giving me trouble

My problems:

1. USB storage will not show up anymore.. I plug it in and it see's that its charging and plugged in but autoplay wont start and i cant transfer my files. I will plug it and out of the USB port and once and a while it will pop up but other then that i can rarely get it to work. This is really frustrating of a problem and ive tried everything. I shouldn't be dealing with this kind of problem. I shouldn't have to uninstall and install drivers and deal with all this crap.

2. My charging port is basically shot already, i have to wrap my chord around the phone and set it right just to get it to stay charging. Its been like 6 days and my charger is already not working good.

3. My camera application constantly fails. Ill be on snapchat and ill go to video something and it will freeze everytime. I will go to take pictures and videos on my normal camera app and it will constantly have errors saying "camera application failed" and many more error messages..

This is my first smart-phone and to be honest its ruined my experience completely. I don't understand how a billion dollar company can produce and sell such a horrible piece of technology. I'm going to return it and get a new phone but once it fails again i will never purchase a crappy android phone again.

EHi brucieeb, and welcome to AF,

Sorry to hear you are having these problems. You should not have a hardware failure so soon, so definitely I'd take it back.

You say it's an Ascend, so I assume it's a Huawei. If you tell us which one we can point you to the section for that device.

I should say that these are problems with that device, or maybe that model, but not Android generally. There are many manufacturers of Android devices, who make phones of varying quality at different prices, and.most of them also modify the Android software too. So you shouldn't assume that all Android phones are like this.

I should also mention that this is an internet discussion forum for Android users, and not affiliated with Google or any manufacturer. So we can't do anything but offer personal advice as individuals. You would do best to send any complaints to Huawei, who made the phone.

Is that where you bought the phone from? The fact the specifications tab tells you almost nothing would be a good sign to turn away. And did you read the return policy?

As for your 3 points in the first point
1) I would check if MTP is installed correctly. I don't think most phones use mass storage mode anymore.
2) That's something I would send away to get fixed.
3) Have you tried a different camera app?

However, the first people are also correct in saying you get what you pay for. Personally I won't touch an Android phone that cheap from a rather not mainstream manufacturer. I'd say take it back and get a phone from a better rated company as mikedt suggested. Don't worry about what seems to be lower specs. It's simply because the components are of a higher quality and therefore more expensive.

That said, Huawei is not a Billion dollar company. :) Google is. But Google did not make your phone. The same way that Microsoft is a billion dollar company, but they are no way responsible for a borked PC that you may buy.

Actually Huawei is very much a multi-billion dollar mega-corporation. :) $3bn USD profit last year, 140,000 employees worldwide. But I don't think that their cellphones are that popular, even in China. Not like Samsung or Apple. I suggest to the OP that he return it, try another one. And if that's a lemon as well, then try a Samsung or something, or perhaps a Google Nexus phone.

What Huawei mainly does is infrastructure plant, the stuff that makes phone calls and internet possible. :) America was getting paranoid that the Chinese military might be spying on them using plant supplied by Huawei, well until Edward Snowden came along...but I digress. LOL.

Hey all, just popping by to thank everyone for their responses .

I know the OP's clearly very frustrated (I've toned down a few of the naughty words / posts for our younger readers), but would like to point-out that we've got many, many very helpful and smart members who would like (and have tried) to help you.

But please remember we're all volunteers here and in the middle of a holiday weekend, to boot--so it might take some time for someone to get back to you.

Thanks!

I'll take your word for that. LOL. Had no idea they had already grown that big. :p

I have bought an Ascend P6, in September. The battery was drained and the phone does not charge anymore. The warranty is not global, despite Huawei being a global company. Is it a disposable device, like the chinese umbrellas?

I have a h881c ascend plus I got second hand. I like the phone. Not the best (best being Samsung galaxy I think)
But its cheap like u said. The connection error is more than likely a cord or driver issue maybe even USB port power issue. The camera does have fits but always comes out of it and I haven't had many issues with camera.

The only problem I have is no support for the phone. I figured a custom recovery would be our Xmas present but no dice!!

Having owned nearly every generation of the galaxy series (s4 excluded which isn't much better than the s3), I have to differ on that statement.

IMO, it's between the Nexus 5, LG G2 & HTC One, that's my thoughts :)

No offense Bruciee but it being Huawei is the problem. If I were you i would save my money and get the Nexus 5. Went from Huawei to Nexus and will never look back

I haven't owned a galaxy myself. Mothers got one. I have owned a few Samsung devices though and they make quality hardware. I will not argue about the nexus or HTC I love HTC. I had an lgl75c zip I think its called. Liked the phone but bricked it before I learned it didn't have a recovery at all which is stupid. I like this ascend plus for the price.

That said there are few things I don't like. One is no tether or hotspots support. Not sure if this is the rom or android version that is but can't do much threw settings.

All,
I purchased a Jitterbug Touch 2 from Great Call. The box lists it as Model M881, which I have seen also listed as H881C. I cannot find additional info about this phone, even on the Huawei website.
It has android 4.04, Build number M881V100R001C00B967.
It has performed consistently well, but I don't like all the bloatware on it, so I'm looking for a new ROM.
I Rooted it with Kingo Root, and need to upgrade it to a later version of android.
Please let me know what would be the best ROM.

Many thanks!

Wow, yeah, no way I'm getting and Ascend Plus for Page Plus. I'd rather deal with my Spec not getting 3G than that.

I will say, as you are using Net10, maybe it is possible to get the new Motorola Moto G unlocked from Google for $179, or a used and unlocked Android GSM phone on ebay for loads less.
