Help Android Chrome Redirection Virus/Malware/Adware

Looks like this is an ongoing Google ads problem, but it apparently only hitting people in the US, AFAICT. The working fix for the moment seems to be is block Google ads, AdSense, AdMob, DoubleClick. Getting things like fake virus warnings, dating, pr0n, redirects to the Play Store, gambling, offshore pharmacies, penis & muscle growth pills, etc.

I m not in U.S , I m from Pakistan. I tried Adblock but no use. Only temporary fix is clearing data but that destroys all my bookmarks and opera mobile isn't synchronized anywhere.

I will investigate today. But all I know is that it gets started when I open online forums lie XDA, this forum and my local country forums

I'm guessing there's an ad service, possibly one of Google's that's serving all this stuff, seen as they're one of the largest players in the ad business. But it's only to certain regions, I've not seen any of this shit in China. Clearing cache may not help, and Ad Blocks will only block what's on their lists, if there's ads coming from other sources they'll still get through.

What I did was remove the game apps that I had rcently downloaded. Then did a cache clear. Haven't had a redirect since then. It's been a little over a week now.
The redirects were only occurring while browsing android forums through the stock browser on my unrooted HTC m8.

From some searching I believe that it's an exploit of the google ads network and the whole spamming and redirecting occurs from a registered advertiser so thanks alot google.

What worked for me (after trying almost all solutions besides factory reset) is that I went in my device into google settings -> ads and i resetted my ads identifier. Hope this helps.

hi guys! we unistalled our phones pc and internet router and everything was ok. then i installed spotify to my sony z1 and all came back. i unistalled spotify and restarted phone and pc it was gone. hopefully it helpped. so it can be spotify what is causing this.

I, too, have the same these crazy pop up Google ads on my phone. I have looked and searched everywhere in the phone and can not find the Chrome folder to delete on my Galaxy S5. Any suggestion where it might be? Thanks!

I have searched numerous times by looking in Android, data folder but no Chrome folder came up. I even searched the whole internal storage of the phone. Any ideas? Thanks!
Do you use Chrome?

If so, the folder will begin with com.google - just read the titles of those folders, it ought to stand out.

I've uninstalled Chrome at the moment so that's the best I can direct you to look.

Hey Guys,

I too had problems with the "redirect-virus" and I found out, that it must've been a somehow by malware changed
DNS-Address in my DSL-Modem-Settings. It was a so called "malware-DNS", which must've made Hijacking the Java-Script Software possible.

What I did was to look up the original DNS-Settings from my Internet-Provider Vodafone (Europe, Germany) and set it as my default DNS-Server in the Menu of my DSL-Router (or Modem).

I tried everything mentioned in this thread, from antimalware and antivirus software to manually deleting files in my android-folder, which did not help.

So I read that one message on Site 1, which mentioned the DNS-Change.
Just in this moment, my father called me - all of a sudden he too had redirection-problems with undwanted adds in Chrome, but on his own Computer, which was connected through the same router, my mobile phone was using.
So i thought : This could not have happened by incident - The problem must be caused by the router settings. So it was.
No redirections anymore in Chrome, even wehen Java-Script is enabled.

Please look up your DNS-Settings in the Router-Menu, try this and tell me, if it worked :) .

I too started getting the slimspot popup this week. (Coincidentally(?) with the new extended forum addresses.) It seems to get triggered when I come here to any one of my bookmarked forums from my mobile. It usually opens two or three new tabs and redirects to a game on Google Play.

Found this lengthy thread on Google Help forum, no solution yet it seems:

Hi there,
I've been facing the same problem ever since I clicked on a video link on a Facebook newsfeed. I tried everything possible but didn't help. I have been going through all the blogs related to this PUP/ malware websites that keep popping up everytime I try to surf anything on the web through the Chrome browser on my phone. I disabled Chrome and downloaded Firefox. Same issue. No help available on the Android forums. I scanned my phone using Avast, McAfee and Malwarebytes. Couldn't detect anything. It was frustrating. So I tried something on my own and Voila! It worked! I have completely stopped receiving the stupid malware redirects!
Here's what you do:
Open the Chrome browser.
Go to Settings - Site Settings - Storage
Delete all the saved websites (You'll be surprised that this is where they track your device from)
Block Cookies from third party
Block Pop Ups
Ensure you reset the device credentials on the Protected Content.
Ensure Data Saver is turned ON (this helps Chrome to run on a protected mode)
Now turn Off Javascripts and turn it back on.
Try surfing any website. You'll not see the annoying malware redirects anymore.
Hope this helps :-) Stay safe :-)

My problem stopped after a week or so. I don't think I did anything special.

  2. go to settings
  3. go to site settings
  4. storage
  5. and look for googleads.g.doubleclick.net and any other site storage that looks malicious and remove them
  6. Thats it, go dutch

I was having the redirect problem whenever I clicked on an internet link from my Facebook app. Doing this had seemed to stop the redirect. I also opted out of ads directed towards my interest. Just go to Google Setting, ads

Had the same issue, tried every malware, adware, virus detection app there is and none of them found anything. Solved the problem completely just by uninstalling my music downloader. In my case it was "Simple MP3 downloader". Uninstall any music download apps you have, see if it's solved. I plan to download that app when I need music, then uninstall again till the next time, don't need it on my phone on a daily basis anyway.

Hi guys. I have the same issue and it really makes me crazy. My chrome browser always auto redirects to another page and can't go back. I don't think only chrome has a problem - even my facebook app (when i open a link in New Feeds, it auto redirects too), stock android browser and others News apps in my phone. I tried everthing, Factory Reset, Restore Stock Rom, Remove External SD Card but it's still there. But I've solved that problem recently. I set my internet modem and wifi router to factory default settings and configure it. Now that problem's gone on all my apps. Hope this will help you guys. Sorry for my bad English.

I'm from Brazil and I had the same problem. Here is what worked for me: I tried the Factory Reset 3 times and it didn't work. Whenever I clicked on a link on Google, or on Twitter or on Facebook, it was redirecting me to some bizarre ads. What I did was to clear the data and uninstall all the updates from Android WebViewer. Then I deactivated it and activated it again. After that, it stopped redirecting me ;)

(sorry for my poor english)
