Android envy

So of my group of friends I have the iPhone 4 my friends use the incredible and droid x phones, and honestly I am jealous of there phones haha I wouldn't let them know as I talked up my phone to them but they were right both put a stomping on the I phone 4, with the customizing abilities the use of flash the non apple restrictions. Thinking of converting to the android side is this a smart move?

If you prefer it, sure.

My advice would be to do your research and consider all your options; Apple, Microsoft, Google, RIM, etc.

If you feel the need to try an Android device ,go for it and make your own call. Remember you have a learning curve to go through so be patient and give yourself adequate time.

Yeah true I might end up liking the iPhone better after usage, however I feel very restricted to apple, and I'm uneasy about jailbreaking my phone. It'd be cool to put android system on the iPhone though.

I wouldn't be uneasy about jailbreaking. It is a very simple process and there is very little chance of something going wrong.

If you are an iPhone 4 users, then you only had it for less than a year. You may be able to sell it and get a new phone, but it will cost you some money unless you also get a used Android phone. You will also lose your investments in the apps that you have purchased on Apple. They cannot be ported over to an Android phone. You will have to purchase the apps again, although you may be able to find some free ones that suit your needs. Some apps may not be available on Android, but then there may be some Android apps not available on iOS. You'll have to assess if it is worth the money to do that at this point in time.

I'll let others comment about jail breaking.

True it could be very costly I'm more considering this at the end of the year

no... sell iphone 4 now... get enough to pay eft on att.. and have enough to get a new phone on new cnotract with new provider.

at end of day... it might be a clean wash....

your definately going to want to try an android phone first hand before jumping to any conclusions. if your on verizon see if one of your buddies will swap phones with you for a day or two and see what you think of the android feel. android does take some getting used to but once you have it down, you will have a tough time adjusting to something else.

and jailbreaking an iphone is nice and easy, but doesnt really give as much customisation as I would have hoped. a stock droid has alot more customisation than a jailbroken iphone.

I would say, if it's something you want to do, go for it.

The learning curve for using an Android phone is about the same (and in some cases easier) than the iPhone.

I hear they are going for $600.
eft = $250??
new contract and phone = $200
new apps purchase = $$$ way less than apple

learning curve for iphone users are harder.. because of apple brainwashing for easy use.

android is easy.. just different!
the difference is what makes it hard for iphone users.

Try out your friends' phones. I hear all the time that Android requires some sort of learning curve, but from my experience, there is no such thing. You will learn things about your phone and the operating system as you play with it more and more, but I know countless people who have no tech-savviness whatsoever jump to Android and they were fine.

I think it's more of an unlearning curve. This applies for going from any system to another. You get used to an old system and just breaking old habits always take a little time. I don't think it'll be that hard. It's just a matter of finding out how to do things the new way and how to do new things you cannot do before.

Yes the learning curve coming off the iPhone is that you have to get used to getting everything for free.

That can be quite shocking at first.

there are carriers that give you 30 days to try.. and return without any cost..
I would say try this :) Are you with Verizon or AT&T? If you're with AT&T there are 2 great phones they are carrying, the HTC Inspire and Motorola Atrix. If you have the money, buy the phone outright at bestbuy. Throw you sim card (I believe you need a normal sim card vs the micro sim card that iphone uses) into the Android phone and you have 30 days to play with the phone and see if you really like it. If you don't, return it before your 30 days are up. If you're on Verizon, they have a number of Android phones you can play with. You don't lose anything that way and you'll end up knowing whether you like Android or not.

If you have any questions, don't be afraid to post your questions here (in the correct Android phone forum). As you can see, we're a very friendly and helpful bunch. Plus we enjoy knowing we converted someone 'from the dark side' ;) You also have tones of Android friends, so you can ask them for advice as well.

Just a curiosity, how knowledgeable are your friends that have Android phones?

i think it was costco or sams...
they will have the atrix and laptop combo for $250 with new 2 yr contract.. that is a deal!

That's great to hear!!! I hope to see you posting here more often. Might want to change the name since you won't be an 'iphone4 user' for very long ;)

Hey thanks for not being a total douch like every single other iphone user out there!!!!

Haha, kidding! Actually I think it's funny because so many people around here make fun of iPhone users by saying Apple has everyone brainwashed and walking around like zombies. But here we are over here a bunch of robots... which is worse?

I have a DX and I'm loving it. But I don't get caught up in the strange animosity that goes on between the two parties. We're all just squirrels out there tryin to get a nut. You may now remove your seatbelt, enjoy your flight.

:D
