I'm not entirely sure. I know you can for some models. I imagine that it would be difficult to use due to the severe lack of buttons...
It's been done... don't know how effective, but look into OpeniBoot.

Sold my iPhone to one of my friends, have enough for the ETF to switch to veriozon since they have much better coverage as well as get the X, ahh feels nice escaping the iPhone deathgrip!

search youtube. There is a guy that has started setting up the iphone to boot up on the android os. Its to show it can be done. not everything works on it but hey it boots it up.

When I was with AT&T I was almost sucked in to the iphone world. THen I talked to my wife and we switched to verizon and I got my Droid 1. Never looked back ever. Seemed like for awhile AT&T only had crappy phones so people would have to settle for the iphone. Now they are getting better android phones and people can finally choose.
Glad you like your X but I would of waited for the HTC thunderbolt or one of the newer phones beings you was starting a new contract.

Getting the X are you, congrats. You'll like it, that's what I have. Don't be shy about rooting & ROMing, that opens this device right up! I'm running Liberty, a few other good ROMs are Apex, GummyJAR, Darkslide & Tranquility. I don't usually recommend to very many people that they jump right into ROMing as you can really scare yourself if something goes wrong and you aren't really familiar with the device yet.
But since some of your buddies have DX's I'm sure they know the ropes and SBF you back to life. Don't fret, I have bricked my phone... TWICE! It's not as bad as you've heard, it's next to impossible to permanently screw this device up beyond being able to SBF. SBF is like a lifeboat for Androids. It takes you back to square one.

I don't expect that to happen until next year at least. After the first generation tablets are out for a while and users get try them out and voice their criticisms of it, then we can see some more refined tablets available.
