Help Android File Transfer on Mac can't access micro SD on Moto G3

[Android Question]

Android File Transfer is successfully accessing internal storage and device is set to 'USB for file transfer'. However, the 'Sandisk SD card' section of AFT is blank. It recognises that I have only 511 MB available but there are no actual files visible for me to transfer to Mac. How can I access my SD card files?

If the device had a file hiding malware(*) they wouldn't be able to see files from the device either (there's no point writing malware that only affects an unusual way of viewing files). If this is just a problem when using AFT then it's not that.

(*) not virus: that's a specific type of malware and there are no true Android viruses

Is the Android File Transfer authorzed by Mac already?

If AFT can see the internal storage then it's working on the Mac.
