Android Live Scores

Like I said, it only happens sometimes. Which leads me to a question, how can I take a screen shot the next time it happens so I can better show you what I'm talking about??

Just root your phone and install Drocap2, that is what I use to do screen shots all the time

I know this is old, but I think I may have fixed this. We just recently started seeing this on the G1s in the office, so I was able to test a fix against them. I'm hoping the Fascinate broke in the same way.

Whenever the next release goes out (hopefully this week), you'll see it.

Thanks. Hopefully it will be soon. Also with the update i see a minor problem. There is overlap on the "Details" tab. Please see the screenshot. Game score is overlapping with the TV/Radio schedule.
Thanks!

Android Sportacular 1.6.0 is coming out today.

Among other things it's got:
1. Favorites Page. You can choose "Favorites" as the team for the scores page.
2. Teams Pages w/ News and Schedule.

well i was going to say that last nights san jose / vancouver game went into 2nd OT. the app actually said it was a shootout.

as im sure we all know, there is no shootouts in the playoffs. but nevermind, because now it seems to be right. :)

EDIT: actually the game "plays" tab says the goal came in the 'SO Period'

Looking forward to trying out the new update.

One of the things I have noticed is that during NBA games the score alert for the end of the second actually doesn't come until after halftime. Is this an issue you are working on, to make that alert in particular arrive in a more timely fashion?

Also, one of the small features I have most been looking forward to is being able to choose my own alert tone, I know a while back you said it was on the list of things to do. Any idea on the ETA?

I really like the look of your widget. Very sleek. I like the functionality of ScoreMobile, but the widget just looks HUGE.

anyway, something I'd like to see in the widget:

Can you make the widget scroll automatically through your favorites? for example, if I have more than one favorite team selected, it just sits on one of them and doesnt move. I'd like to be able to tell it to "scroll" thru them all like every 3-5 seconds or so. Not critical, but would be nice.

Thanks for being responsive to the community. Always appreciated! This app looks nice and seems like it could really be fantastic as y'all continue to work on it! :-)

EDIT: Thought of one other thing... how often does Live Scores sync? It'd be nice if that were something we could change. Especially for those of us running with Thunderbolts! :-D

False alarm... I know I said we were going to push out an update and we were SOOO CLOSE, but we ran into a problem last minute so maybe tomorrow. Sorry to get your hopes up! haha

That's interesting. Our system discovers the end of a period when it is changed to a new period (ie 2 -> 3). Our data provider probably doesn't give us an update until 3rd period starts. I can look into that.

This is a lot of work for a small feature. We use the default system sound. You can change the default sound in your android settings I think.

So you want to continue using ScoreMobile but use our widget? hahaha - not a good way to open to a feature request ;)

Like ScoreMobile's widget? :P
You can create multiple small widgets. One for each time. I believe 2 widgets will fit side by side. Not sure if we'll ever do the auto-scroll.

Do you mean alerts or just within the app in general?
Would you want to slow it down or speed it up?
Is your concern battery life or not getting alerts fast enough?

You should receive an alert within a 1-3 minutes of seeing the event on TV for the popular sports and teams. Battery usage should be minimal from the alerts service. My phone says that our alerts service typically uses less than a minute of CPU in a day.

Within the app, the pages that auto-refresh typically do it every 30 seconds.

I know I can change the default sound, I just like having different sounds for different apps so I know what kind of alert it is just by the sound without having to unlock the phone. I have no idea how much work it is to do something like that.

Just out of curiosity, have you thought about doing any kind of pop up notification?

Our LED blinky color is purple ;)

Not sure what you mean by pop up notification.

I have a Nexus S so I don't have an LED, all I have is my capacitive buttons that blink at me when my LED should be on.

By pop up, I mean a box that opens on the screen where I could see the score with out touching the notification bar. Like the pop ups used SMS apps (or push notifications on iOS). Not a big deal, I was just curious

awesome idea...

Rather than writing the code allowing the user to choose an alert sound, how about simply providing a unique alert sound, similar to what SportsTap does? Hopefully that would be easier to program while still providing a distinctive alert. You might even make it where the alert is an audio file the user can replace manually.

Yes this is actually much easier. The hardest part about letting the user choose, is getting the list of available sounds from the phone and then building the user interface to allow them to choose.

We can do this sooner than later.

No LED? I noticed the new Samsung "Charge" Android phone also doesn't have an LED. It seems like a HUGE oversight. The LED is one of my favorite features about Android phones.

I'm not sure this is possible. Even if it is, it's against the Android dev guidlines. As far as I know, an app doesn't (or shouldnt) have access to the screen while it's running in the background. That's what the notification bar is for. This is kind of like what the iPhone does. It's biggest flaw is that when one notification comes in after another, it overwrites the previous causing you to lose information.

Widget does this pretty well. Just put it someplace more visible?

Awesome - that is probably the only feature about SportsTap that I miss. I switched over to Scoremobile because it runs more reliably on my DroidX; SportsTap was slow to update the widget (particularly on bootup) and in some cases was just showing a blank widget. I've had no issues with Scoremobile so far in the few months I've used it.

What about Live Scores (Sportacular) ? How is it's reliability?

Trying out the notifications for first time. Seem to be working pretty well!

First time really watching the widget during a game.

I've got the large widget up for a baseball game. Everything looks fine, except the "Top 2nd" inning marker is cut off. All I can see is "Top" and the very tip top of "2nd".

would take a screen shot but I'm not rooted yet.

*EDIT* Okay weird. Now it's in Top 3rd, and "Top 3rd" is displaying fine. For a little more info, I'm on a Thunderbolt, running standard HTC Sense, and the game was Reds at Braves.

If it is against the dev guidelines how do apps like GoSMS, Handcent, SMS popup, and tasker, just to name a few do it?

I am not saying you are wrong because I have never read the dev guidelines, but there are plenty of background apps that do this all the time...

The reason I don't use the widget is just because I don't want the information there when there isn't a game going on, and I don't want to have to add and remove widgets all the time.

Hi guys, love the app. any chance you could make the refresh on the PGA leader boards a little longer. Currently it looks to be around every 30 seconds, seems pretty quick for golf. Ideally if refresh rates could be customized that would be great but that's probably a lot more work.

Hey there, love the app! Sorry if I missed this but is it possible to have a widget available that shows ALL sports scores (with a menu on it to jump from each sport) not just favorite teams? The 4x1 is perfect for this just needs to have all scores and scroll on it's it's own instead of having to press the arrows. :)

Also if there is a way to add an alert to notify me when ANY game is going into extra innings, overtime or a shootout that would be fantastic. Being a subscriber to sports packages on my TV this would be great if I'm watching a show and then get an alert that a game is going into overtime so I can flip the channel and catch a potential great finish!

Great work so far, with those two things added I would have no reason to have any other sports score app on my phone.

Wish we could remove the ads...

Other than that, love the app. But please let us buy a Plus version without ads. I refuse to use apps that have ads, I would rather pay a few dollars to get rid of them.
