Android Market 2.2.6 Update File

Fabolous

Superuser
This is the .apk for the new market version 2.2.6 that implements all the changes listed here:

Android Market update streamlines content, nukes tabs, dismantles 24-hour return policy to appease devs -- Engadget

Just install it with a file manager such as Astro. It will update your Market to the current version.

Running on my DX:

Works great on my Galaxy S Vibrant running Froyo JK2 (AOSP ish)
was a little slow while loading, but got smoother as everything loaded up.
Used DL link from Here

Where did it come from and why does this require a manual update?

It doesn't require a manual update, it's just being rolled out in waves over the next couple of weeks (as it seems all Google updates happen)

But any phone that has gotten the update can just get the file pulled from /data/app (which is where this came from).

I posted this up for people who want to update early before it gets pushed to their phones. That is all.

I'm receiving "Application not Installed" error message. Any ideas why?

Reading on other forums, looks like some AOSP ROMs don't like these quite yet?

I get the same message on Cyanogen 6.1 final - it starts the install, asks for permissions, then just says 'Nope, sorry' after a few seconds. Thought it would be permissions + system/app at first, but maybe not.

Installed it, figured I might as well get used to it now because it Is probably already going to be on my nexus s on Thursday. I have to say... I don't like the changes at all, hopefully I will get used to it

Hey I just barely got a Nexus 1 and I'm pretty new to Android. I don't understand how I can install this file into my phone. I moved the file into my phone's SD card but after that I'm pretty clueless about what to do. Can someone please help?

Its only allowed on devices running 2.2 or higher from what I read up on. My vibrant doesnt seem to be able to read it running 2.1

there was a problem parsing the file

I think its because you probably are running 2.1 and the info I read says its for 2.2 and up.

Installed fine on my GOT 2.2 Milestone 1. Not sure I like this version more than the previous one though.

You'll need a file explorer like:

ASTRO File Manager - Android app on AppBrain

or my favorite:

ES File Explorer - Android app on AppBrain

Then you just browse over to your SD card and click the file. It should give you the option to install. Make sure menu>settings>applications>unknown sources is checked.

yup...noticed this a few days ago

some neat changes...some not so great

users should take note that the refund window has now gone from 24 hours to 15 minutes
