Help Android Market download problems

Ok guys, first time post so please be friendly

I have a HTC hero and have been trying to download games from the Android market but they just stall on "starting download".

I have been browsing the net and found others with the same problem. Is this just a problem with the android market in general? or is it this specific phone?

Everything else works fine e.g. browsing the net, logging into the market and google talk.

This seems to be a widespread problem that I have seen posts about from last year! So it is surprising to me that a company like Google has yet to solve it.

Any help would be much appreciated

It can happen regularly, I'm afraid. The problem is at the other end not at the handset, as I've had it occur twice with my new Desire Z too.

Sometimes simply cancelling the d/l then restarting it works. If not, closing the Market app (with Back button) and restarting it can do the trick. Occasionally a d/l stalls until the handset is rebooted.

Tried the things you said still no luck Sureley Google are aware of this problem? if its so common and to do with the market itself hopefully they must have plans to fix this becasue I would really like to use the android market.

Try Setting/Applications/Manage Applications, select Market and Clear cache. Reboot the handset and try installing an app.

Yeah I've tried that already didn't change anything. Weirdly though tried downloading a game off the market today while I was out and about and it worked perfectly fine, a Christmas miracle perhaps? lol
