Wonder how YouTube does it? I am reluctant to believe it is a problem with the box as both YouTube and the embedded flash sites use Flash Player. So why should there be such a marked difference? Still suspect a software firmware issue in how it is handled. I am planning to upgrade to latest U110781_1109050_HW and see if it makes any difference.

I have now installed the latest firmware U110781_1109050_HW and I am real pleased to inform that all the jerkiness in playing embedded flash videos has gone. The system is lot smoother and I am real amazed. After the firmware upgrade I did not install any flash player. It just worked!
Great does you tube pre installed in it ?> personally speaking what i supect is there was some error. Now even if you install fresh old firmware i believe it will work perfect.
For me another unique problem that is occurring that the remote curser had become slow and less responsive specially when playing ninja slice even when replaced with new battaries wireless keybord and mouse are working abolutly fine.
BTW what installation procedure did you follow ? And how much time did it take to install and how much size card memory did you take for installation.

Great news! Haven't really tried since I updated firmware to U110781_1109050_HW. Must try some embedded flash video to see if it helped me too.
in_msz - you might be right in some error being there and any old firmware would have worked. But as mine had 8081 firmware I wanted to give the new one a try.
Yes YouTube come preinstalled with this firmware and plays fine. I have not played fruit ninja but I have not found any difference in how the "Air Mouse" remote works. For the installation procedure, I tried the SD card route but failed in getting SDTool to work. So I had to root the stock firmware using z4root 1.3 and then installed superuser. I installed sysroot to delete the UpdateKit folder in /data and then copied the new UpdateKit containing the latest android.osk from a usb pen drive. Unplugged and plugged back and it updated fine. Took around 4-5 mins and then the green led flashed. Power cycled and it worked. Took a minute or so on android screen (gave me a scare) but worked. I find it a lot smoother than the stock firmware. I did not root again. Will see if the need arises.

Just want to point out something about playing Youtube in browser and in a standalone Youtube app.
I believe the standalone Youtube app highest quality playback is HQ quality only which is a lower resolution than HD (720p).
If you play Youtube in browser and select 720p, then you are playing a real HD video.
So playing HQ video is supposed to use less bandwidth and smoother than playing 720p in browser.

...which would be plan silly, as the FV-1 can't output even 720p. You're just wasting CPU and bandwidth.
In that case, only select 480p when playing Youtube in browser; and see whether it is as smooth as playing HQ in a standalone Youtube app.
That scare is the reason which is delaying for my update.
because last time i almost bricked my HD satellite receiver whis thios update but whith hours of research i managed to bring it back to life.Coming to the point.My box came with july update. May be August firmware was buggy. Now October firmware is out too with new SD tool. BTW is it possible to update with usb pen drive with sd tools method.
Well is the box still taking time stucking at android screen after the ist boot. And also i believe dice payer, angryb irds are pre installed with september firmware.And also ar hyou able o see files on the usb after the update ?

This thing costed me about 120 euros (plus an extra 20 euros for import tax). The main reason I purchased it was to be able to watch hd movies (at least 720p) and maybe watching a bit of youtube sometimes... Well I can watch them "ok" with the embedded Ila MediaPlayer (which for some reason I can't find any information about it on the net!) but I can't hear any sound on most of them because I can't choose the audio stream OR the subtitles plus I can't find any settings about that player within the box at all!!! What use it that? and of course the "Mobo player" is useless because it can't play anything in good speed at all...
I'm really really sorry about the whole complain thing and of course it's not your problem but I feel a bit cheated at the moment because the box is also advertised as an hd 1080p player and I really can;t see how that can happen.... :-(

I dont think you can update directly from the usb pen drive. The update looks for the SD Card. If not you could try my way of z4root + superusr + sysroot and copy UpdateKit to /data.
The box boots up fine now. It was stuck on the first reboot after update. Probably trying to load to memory the new firmware? Dice player and angry birds are not part of this firmware. And yes I can see files on the USB.

Sorry to hear you are disappointed with the FV-1. I mainly bought it for online streaming and youtube as I wanted to convert my TV to a smart tv. so cant comment much on the HD video playback. There was some mention in this thread that Dice Player is the only one that can play HD videos properly as it supports hardware acceleration on the FV-1. I have not used it but others who have can confirm? I will download some sample HD videos (can test 720p only as my TV is not full HD) and let you know. How are you playing the HD videos? Through USB harddrive?
I too sometimes have the mouse freezing and need to press a button to get it moving.

There is dice payer which controls the HD content to some extent by killing some quality but plays the video well.but its not free 3 day trial is available.

Yes this is the issue for which i was going to install the new firmware. Just to know the accuracy install the ninja slice or fruit ninja and check the accuracy. Best is to use wireless keyboard and mouse works like charm. but one important thing in the remote function is missing in keyboard ie the menu function.
Sir is it possible to take time and create step by step procedure to create a guide for installation if possible with Screenshots so that it will be helpful for non linux people like me and newbies. As today i failed with Sd tools method as its not working for me .
That is the reason i wanted to install the new firmware and see if you remember in earlier posts i requested to check the remote smoothness with slice ninja.Personally what i think that it was good initially working very fime but after installation of memory and connecting to net the response of remote faded.
But wireless keyboard and mouse works like a charm

Indeed it was - Smooth as butter, where it with previous firmware was stuttering to the point of being completely unwatchable (tried Simpsons Online). There's obviously been some major enhancements in this latest firmware.
Sir Iam eagar to update.The Sd tools method is not working for me. My os is win xp sp3. Have to try with win xp sp2.

The problem with this method, is that it seems like you must have root to do it.The other method iam unable to understand
- If you have root, you can mount the filesystem writable (R/W) with ES File Explorer.
- Create a folder named UpdateKit under the /data folder on FV-1 (/data/UpdateKit)
- Copy the firmware .osk file into this folder (/data/UpdateKit/U110781_1109050_HW.osk)
- Rename U110781_1109050_HW.osk to android.osk (/data/UpdateKit/android.osk)
- Reboot (unplug and plug) the FV-1 and the update process will start.
If the FV-1 doesn't reboot automatically, you can reboot it yourself (by unplugging/plugging) at this point.
But I really advice you to succeed in creating a SD card update. That's the only way to resurrect your FV-1 if you manage to get in in a state where it refuses to boot, like I once did.
Yes as ZilverZurfarn said one has to root to use my method. I had Win XP Sp3 and both the English and Chinese versions of SDTool failed to work. The English version kept giving errors and the Chinese Version did something to the SD card that is stopped working on the XP pc. Luckily it worked on another Win 7 PC. Wish they release a proper version of SDTool.
I have not tried but is it possible to just format the card as FAT and create the UpdateKit folder and copy android.osk to it? Are we stuck with SDTool?

Yes yes my first focus will be on Sd card update as my box is in nice working condition. BTW do you have the sd card with image so that we can try cloning it with some firmware to a image.
Else can we take a complete backup using some titanium backup or some other backup software . A firmware by name acronis is there for windows
which copies entire drive including boot level files to a image . If the system doeent boot or errors are found . we can boot in acronics leven and replace the image.

Yes, I'd think that should be possible - I saved the SD card (an old 512 MB card) for a rainy day, and it should be pretty easy to dump it to a disk image with Linux and dd (disk dump)
The SD Tool seems very temperamental, and I was obviously plain lucky to manage to create the SD card, judging by the problems reported here.
Its great. I request you to try to clone the card into image and upload,till the sd tools issue is resolve,so that users here whose boxes died will able to bring it alive. BTW which month version of image you are having.
Iam try sd tools to work with different versions and hardware
1. winxp sp2,SP 1 (sp3 not working ) Windows 98
2. Single card slot usb card reader ( gernally card readers has multiple slots )
I used a multi usb card reader.
If you can give some tips you are welcome

The firmware I have on the SD card is second to latest (as found in this thread), don't remember exact version. But that shouldn't matter much, as I consider it just a means to wake a "bricked" FV-1 up. Once you get it to boot, you can always root it, and update to latest version using the "other" method.
The computer I finally managed to get SD Tool to work with, was an old Acer laptop with XP (no SP afaik) and a built in SD card reader. Before that, I tried 2 different computers with Windows7 to no avail.
If the creators of SD Tool hadn't tried to be so clever with this SD card discovery thing (just let us select the drive letter of the SD card!), life had been so much easier!

Doubt VMWare or VirtualBox or the like will work, as these have enough trouble as it is with hardware detection (which is what the issue with SDTool is all about).No matter whatever version it could be used as life saving card

I also don't know really what SDTool does, but my guess is that it simply dumps the firmware file (.osk) onto the sd card (just like you could do using dd in Linux).
