Android Update

Hey,

How How How!!!... Do I know when there is an update for the OS on my HTC?

I with Google would make something like iTunes, where I can sync (ON MY MAC) and download apps and manage music ect...

Grrrr

Anyone know...

As far as the syncing goes, i use spanning sync on my mac. It syncs my MobileMe contacts and calendar with google... and thus the phone.

As for the music, i just drag and drop fro Tines to the mem card.

On the HTC website:
HTC Hero - ROM Upgrade for HTC Hero (3UK)

The build number on that is: ROM version:2.73.771.73 (3UK)
(I am on 3 Mobile)

And on my phone the build number is: 2.73.771.62 CL80033 release-keys

I am guessing that means it needs updating? But how do I do it and will it reset my phone?

If you follow the instructions when you click on the link to down load the update you should have no problems, from what i've heard though it will wipe the device. You best make a note of the apps you have as you'll need to get them again.

As for your contacts etc, they will still be on your email account.

I think i'll have to wait for a generic update to come out as i'm on the Cable & Wireless network in the Channel Islands.

Grrr they like to make things hard dont they!...
There is not even a good backup app to backup all the apps and everything to my PC

I wouldn't bother with the update unless you're sure that it fixes a problem, Danny. It's still the same version and revision (2.73.771.xx) and probably not worth the hassle of a reset. Best advice is check with 3 beforehand.

I restored my SMS's while doing a test so had, 6000 texts in the message app... after trying to delete them for hours, and the app just kept crashing time and time ages... I have backed up my phone using mybackup onto my SD card, and have taken my SD card out, and does a restore on it but now its taken aaaaaaagesssssss to restore, how long does it usally take?
