AndyX ROM

Been on AndyX Rom for about a month and loved it. I've found battery life to be great and it's almost perfectly stable for my usage.

However, I don't like the development being moved off XDA, so I've been keeping an eye out for another good rom.

Omega ICS ROM looks great and comes with a kitchen app too - so I'm downloading that now

Update - I am finding Omega ROM ICS to be even better than AndyX ROM. It's got loads more features (including the return of Timer in the clock app - which AndyX ROM has always been missing). Battery life is worse, but not awful

Oh and the install from market or restore using titanium backup problem is gone! No more problems restoring apps

Hey guys, sorry for being away. My work takes me places without internet sometimes :D

AndyX ROM 7.2 is still the newest version it seems. I've had...mixed battery life with 7.2 (as with all 7 series actually) so I might try out a couple of the suggested ones. Was going to try one out last week iirc but work got in the way :P

I feel like I'm talking to myself at the moment, but I'll keep talking until I get told to shut up :D

v8.0 installed fine using the good ol' fullwipe method. Took me a day to get the blasted thing downloaded, so I might save people trouble and upload it to dropbox to share with the faithful here (long as it doesn't get repeated somewhere). Anyway it installed fine. I had a very interesting issue, pretty sure it was the stock AndyX kernel interacting with my Voltage Control app somehow...don't ask me how...but it defaulted to min 200MHz and max 200MHz (in bold for added effect).

So for a while I was scrolling around cursing the newest version of my favourite ICS rom for being slower than an old, fat sloth in thick mud with a 100 pound weight attached to its feet. I guess the plus is that it still actually worked at 200MHz and played angry birds space! It wasn't so obviously slow that I immediately ran to voltage control, hence it took me a while to figure it out. I didn't actually figure it out tbh, since I only found the culprit when I tried to overclock to make it go faster and salvage what I thought was not much left of an awesome rom.

Alas, fixing the issue has shown me that v8.0 is pretty damned stable and amazing! And finally the scrolling is smooth! Not as smooth at 800MHz, but at 1200 (stock) it's just a joy to scroll around. I guess we can thank Samsung more than the dev for that though. I'm running Siyah v3 RC1 on it and all is well :D

Edit: I've got a dropbox mirror here

Hi Kie, gotta say i'm loving these andyX roms, adesirello is doing a fine job! V7.1 was the first time i flashed anything (virgin) though i'd just rooted my phone prior. Thanks to your OP i discovered this rom so thanks very much.

I have a questions though and it is to do with this Siyah kernel you keep mentioning. I still haven't grasped an understanding of what a kernel is and what it does, would you mind explaining that one for a noob and what make Siyah better than say Chainfire or Pershoot?

PS i see V9 with Siyah RC2 is on its way, maybe this weekend

Glad you're enjoying it. I almost lost hope after xda closed his thread but it's still going strong and it's one of the most frequently updated roms around!

I'll try and keep the dropbox mirror open for new versions. The link will be in the OP as well.

To answer your question, Siyah is a customised kernel that enables additional features not available in the stock kernel. There's a lot of custom kernels out there, but Siyah has always been my personal favourite and the favourite in general here due to the continuous updates and battery saving features. If you don't want to wait for roms to update the kernel, you can download mobile odin from here and gokhanmoral updates Siyah frequently here!

Hey all!

Almost as promised, v9.0 is out, but it wasn't yesterday, it's today! Anyway I managed to download it and it's currently uploading to dropbox. You'll find it at the mirror in an hour!

Probably to avoid confusion. Since the modem and kernel changed to LPS, it's really a full-wipe situation from v8.0 or below. If he'd called it v8.1, people would think they didn't have to fullwipe, since v7.1 and 7.2 were updates to v7.0 that could be flashed without fullwipe.

That makes sense. I didn't realize the modem and kernel changed. I noticed that the battery life is actually somewhat longer. Anyone else?

Yes it's a tad temporamental. You have to make sure it's set before you go to bed. Certain actions seem to trigger it to turn off :P

Thanks for keeping this thread up to date Kie.

I've been on an old version of Ressurection Remix for the last few weeks, and it's time to move to an official build based rom, looks like AndyX has what I want in a ROM.

Strange, I've been using V9 since weekend and haven't missed alarm. Have to say I haven't really experienced any problems at all, 1 FC when 1st installed.
I'm impressed, came from Wanamlite and is much smoother and no bugs that I've noticed. Battery not quite as good as I've had but more than good enough!

I'm running andyx v9.0 with Siyah Kernel 3.01, I've got the same problem with the alarm freezing and also deleting a contact causes the phone to freeze. Battery life is very good, however, I got almost 3 full days on one charge over the weekend. I was far too hung over to use my phone much though.

I wander if there's any chance it could be a prob with AndyX & Siyah together as I'm yet to flash new Siyah??
Have u done anything to boost ur battery life day to day? I'm on 54%, came off charge 7am with quite moderate H+ browsing, few texts, etc, etc.

You could say that. They are cached and waiting to pounce. Closing them down uses juice and some of them will re-open again anyway... which uses even more juice as does starting them up again.

This is why you should never use a task killer on the latest Android builds as it does more harm than good. Also, using a task killer can mask a problem that you might be having with an app or OS.

Bottom line... let Android take care of itself. ;)
What about apps like start up auditor? are they battery killers too?

Well, got to say the most complete ROM I have tried so far, It was just not possible for me to use CM9 or Hydrog3n as they couldn't read my external sd, where all my music is stored.

I have had one minor issue with Go Bookmark widget unable to sync with browser bookmarks but that could well be a GO compatibility problem with ICS maybe. Other than that it is very smooth and looks great, but I am a sucker for customization tools. If AndyX could incorporate customization tools similar to Hydrog3n, then this ROM could well be up there with the much talked about CheckROM V7? ICS

In the meantime I have just read about OmegaROM, which has a kitchen..... say no more!

Sounds a GO Launcher issue, since you'll probably have that issue with all ICS ROMs.

I'm eager to try Omega out as well, but haven't got around to it (since AndyX keeps updating!).
