Very interesting...I would like to know what they mean by "General Release"...

From GITS article...
"A special edition of the Blu-Ray will be for sale at the theaters with a general release of the Blu-Ray and DVD coming July 26"

And it is linked to an article on the battleship Yamato (apparently being released in the same way)...
"About every two months, two-to-four episodes of the series are premiered in select theaters throughout Japan. Those who attend these showings are able to buy exclusive, first-run DVD/Blu-Ray copies of the episodes they have just watched. Those same DVDs/Blu-Rays are then released to the general public around a month later."

I would really like to know if "General Release" means export to the US with English dub or even just subtitles or not. Maybe I should just learn Japanese...

Yeah...you must have been in a cave or something...check it out. Great cyberpunk series. Sort of like Shadowrun without magic (the table-top role-playing game). GITS has a good, unique mix of action and mystery/investigation. You can either think your way through the series or just sit along for the ride and watch all the action/eye candy...or both...it has something for everyone.

I just went back and watched the first GITS SAC - and couldn't wait - so I've jumped to the 2nd Gig.

It's got one of the few openings that I never skip. I've posted the intro song before, finally found one with a translation (minor errors, like plac for place) -

We are soldiers, stand or die.

State-sponsored cyberpunk - that opening (Rise) in that context still gives me chills every time.

Everyone's favorite anime site is back up, missing a few titles.

No doubt there were copyright issues with those. Is what it is.

Edit - ok, maybe not.

The new GITS, Ghost Pain, was pretty good.

Watching Gantz right now...it's a bit crazy. Sort of like the violence of Elfen Lied mixed with a really warped plot. So far the characters die and then they show up afterwards in some pocket dimension inside an apartment in Tokyo. Then they are tasked by a mysterious black ball called "Gantz" with a mission to kill things (aliens?) in an alternate reality. In this episode they are supposed to kill a green onion guy with hand razors that bleeds tears. Crazy Japanese...

Gantz was surprising for the x-rated stuff - overall, I really liked it.

I didn't understand the ending but I think they wanted to leave something open to the imagination. I was imagining that I wanted a freaking answer to what I didn't understand!

Anyway stay away if x-rated sex and violence are an issue, otherwise, I'd recommend it.

Got about half-way through Black Rock Shooter when I got sidetracked by Gantz. :p

Gantz is really good I myself don't mind a little x-rated content in anime ;) but if you like Gantz you'll probably like this anime (there's no x-rated content so no problem there)

Edit: Gantz reminds me a bit of Blood+

It had a been a while since I watched the series, I had to go back and look up Blood+, which btw, I agree, I also recommend that one.

What similarities are you seeing with Gantz?

Let's use hide tags for the discussion so we don't spoil it for others. :)

BTW - we're like the top-viewed thread up in here! :)

Edit - we ARE the top-viewed thread here.

I watched both animes awhile ago so looking back at how I remember them they just have that same feel about them although Blood+ is longer and has a more in-depth story.

Edit: Anime is definetly interesting and I think there's at least one anime out there for everyone to get into :)

Anime must be like mopeds for a lot of people.

The ride is fun but you don't want your friends to know. :D

And that's ok, but I bet it's why we're one of the most lurked threads here. :)

While I was down I got to devour some anime, most of Samurai X, Blue Excorcist, Kurozuka, a few episodes of Ultraviolet and Queens Blade (boob fest for pubescent boys).

I dropped Funimation, couldn't justify paying for something that rarely ever worked and could only get on one of my two Samsung bluray players even though it was a Samsung special package deal.

So. I'm rooted and don't think much about startup except that I hate it.

For my fellow GITS fans, the animated...

You didn't know about Black Rock Shooter??? Her entire idea is based on an extremely popular Hatsune Miku Song.....
