Hi there,

My son has an HTC Desire, ROM is Redux 2 and he is with Three. Above the Signal strength icon in Notification Bar he gets a R all the time. Sometimes he gets a message saying data has been disconnected. We suspect it is something to do with Roaming but as far as we can see Roaming is switched off.

Any ideas or suggestions how to get rid of it appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the only thing I could find in regard to roaming is in the Mobile Network Settings and it is unticked.

Hmmm, I don't suppose that network roams naturally does it? Did it do it before?
Tried Airplane mode on/off?

When I'm near the border my phone shows this "R" too.
It means, when I want to make a call I have to use to the foreign service.

Data roaming I have un-checked, so I can't use Google Maps in that situations ;)

Thanks for the replies. Funny thing is the wife is also on 3 and she doesn't have the R on her screen. Airplane mode on/off made no difference.

Hmm I seem to recall another thread with this issue in Redux 2. Its putting me off upgrading from 1.2 =\

isnt three with orange and tmobile as everything everywhere? its probably autoroaming the sim to another network.
check with 3

3's "roaming" was always 2G if I recall (they have their own 3G network). So check network settings - if it has been set to 2G only that might explain it?

Just guessing really, but you never know. Though I don't think 3 approve of 2G only (and I thought their own handsets disabled that).

Oh I don't think it is a Redux 2 issue as he had this before he rooted as well as on Redux 1.2.

Jolly good.

I think I'll update tomorrow. But I'm going to do a full wipe and install as opposed to flashing it over the top. that just goes against everything I learnt about rooting. It seems counter intuitive! I know its fine and many people do it without any issues, but it just seems wrong!

As long as you get it up and running that is the main point. I tend to do a full wipe and then flash the ROM just to be on the safe side. I like Dan's ROM [dGB] but have just moved onto Redux 2 so I knew how to do it for my son's phone. Will probably go back to dGB because

- get more free space
- Spare Parts doesn't work properly on Redux 2 [not a big issue tbh]
- been on dGB from its birth and want to see how it is further developed
- can do all that I want on both.

Very slowly at the moment. Laptop access is limited. I have it now, but I'm in bed and going to do all of blackadder goes forth, back to back on it ;)

What a phenomenonal night.. a few beers would top that evening to new highs of human pleasure.
