just throwin this out there........ take it for what you want........ but before you tell people to read the bill instead of listening to media heads........ in order to show that this bill does not provide for US citizen detainment............. then perhaps you might want to link to the correct bill........ the amended version which proves youre correct............ the version you have quoted and linked to specifically allows for the detention of US citizens and is the one that has everyone up in arms............ as I said it has been amended and that ability removed........ but you should really link/quote that amended version
note: the biggest difference in the 2 versions- the word 'requirement' has been changed to "authority"

What was the purpose of taking away my PSN for 2+ months when they hacked the PSN network? Cause they don't like something about Sony? Great way to get your message across bring down the entire network acess personal info and not let people who have nothing to do with Sony's policies play online because you dont like Sony.
They need to get lives, not try to get their message across by particapating in illegal activites. They are more effective and legal ways to spread a message.

@ Earlymon, that is true. There are definitely some more 'influential' members... And sometimes they go after things that I don't understand the reasoning behind, any I'll confess to owning some rose glasses here, but I like to think the majority of the higher ups and people who know what they are doing are doing something for people other than themselves.

They took down PSN because sony was going after GeoHot (the iPhone Jailbreak guy). The anons stood up for him (and I suppose free speech and right to tinker with your own personal hardware) by taking down PSN. While it was an inconvenience to many, it also helped to get the story out.
I suppose they could have gone door to door saying "help this guy - sony's being evil", but I imagine that would have been less effective. News sources probably wouldn't have reported that story, instead "PSN Down - Anons support GeoHot!" was reported.
Again, it could be the rose glasses, but I like to think that - generally- they are up to good. The 21st Century equivalent of Boston Tea Party or sit-ins... who knows.

Regardless of who Sony was going after, why should I, a person with no ties to Sony have to pay the price for Sony's policies. I was forced to not have something for 2 months that I enjoyed doing and found relaxing. Playing on the PSN. Most PSN users have nothing to do with Sony and who they go after. Seems like the innocents are getting screwed for something they had nothing to do with. Also if all they wanted to do was get their message out, why did they need to acess PSN users personal info and in some other countries credit card numbers and such. Thats not getting a message out. Thats stealing.

I'm not saying the way the did it was right, but they did have a 'just' cause (helping someone who was getting harassed by a huge corporation).
And now all the PSN people know about it, they know, 'hey sony was up to something', and a lot of people know that 'hey, sony was storing our passwords in plaintext... WTF!'
They may have 'nothing' to do with sony, except they are sony's customers. Which is a pretty important thing for a company.
Again, I don't really like the fact that they went after citizens, I love that they went after the HB gary guy, I thought that was awesome. But, besides defacing the company website (which would only get a slight amount of views before sony took it down), what else could they really do. PSN was (I'm guessing here) the target because it was the Playstation that GeoHot was messing around with. So they went after the playstation network.
I don't have the link to the anon op for that particular event (string of events likely), but I imagine they explain their cause pretty well. And, well, maybe their actions are not always 'right', but I do believe that the 'cause' often is. And they are doing a hell of a lot more that I am.
