Again me...

I like to install antivirus program but which one, please?
Is DruidSecurity good?

hell yes we can get viruses lol. actually, android seems to be the prime target since the code is open source it is extremely easy to develop viruses for it. im downloading lookout mobile right now actually....
 
Whoa, alrighty then. *Goes to market to DL antivirus" So, are these AV suites battery hogs running in the background? :(

Lookout Mobile states "Lookout is battery-friendly and only consumes as much power in one day as a 33 second phone call."

So, if that is really true, then I would say it's not bad. I believe that it automatically scans anything you download before you download it - and you can set it up to do a full scan on whatever schedule you want

I have had lookout on all my android phones its the best

Well since its so easy and prevalent, and we have a number of antivirus users here, anyone care to show examples of what your antivirus has caught? I'm sure the virus vault should have a few poking around in there - this is open source after all...

Never found one on my phone but have seen it on others
 
So long as you watch the ratings of what you load on the phone and stick to the Google Marketplace/HTC downloads I really don't think you have a whole hell of a lot to worry about.
 
The only way to get a virus on Android is basically if you actually try to. Trust me, its not just going to show up someday. Don't download non-market apps that seem a little shady, don't visit websites that you already know have viruses all over them. Its that simple.

Can Android get viruses? YES
How easy is it to get a virus? Hard, but do something stupid like sideloading "full" apps that usually cost online and you may end up with a virus-infected phone.

I think it will be important in the future (like it is for computers now) but as of right now, it seems very overrated and blown out of proportion. Antivirus apps seem very pointless to me as of right now.

No market apps have viruses thanks to Google's security. The only viruses/spyware I have ever heard of are ones from Chinese appstores and market apps downloaded from sources outside of the market. If you install market apps, you will be fine, and if you know which apps you are installing outside of the market, you will be fine. It is more up to the user than anything.
 
There are Android viruses in the wild. So, you can be smart and put something on your phone, or you can take a chance. I think it is a diservice to tell people not to worry or that it is not a big deal. As long as you use your browser you can potentially get a virus. They don't only come from installing apps.
Just my two cents. Please don't flame me or change the focus of this thread.

Thats true but Google does make the most secure browser (see Chrome). Because of the Sandbox system, I am not all that worried.

Plus doesn't having an antivirus constantly running in the background slow down the system? According to this thread, a fellow guide, Steven58, had his OS messed up because of using an anti-virus software- http://androidforums.com/htc-incredible/144395-anti-virus-no-anti-virus.html
 
I installed lookout security quickly after reading this thread. I'm wondering if the green lookout icon is set to stay on the top notification by default. Doesn't bother me just hope it doesnt drain my battery if it were running in the background.
