Any defectors to the RAZR?

Hey , just wondering if any commando users are contemplating a new Razr in their future or maybe have already jumped over to a new Razr.
I'm hearing the RF is typical motorola excellent and I know that alone has been an issue for some commando owners. Plus the LTE, another plus. Very good build quality, which is one reason I got the commando.
I tried one in store and found I'd most likely have a hard time with one handed use which is a pretty big downside, but could maybe get the hang of it. Wouldn't fit my pocket as well either, but......?
Anyway, this forum moves at a snails pace which says alot as to how many commando owners there are out there. the other android forums are even slower in the commando section.
So who's checked it out already??
 
I've looked at it from afar, but that is as far as I'm going for now. The problem with the next best thing is that when you get it, it's no longer the best thing...

Glad you brought this topic up Cbreze.
The new Razr is one slick phone, and it has sure sparked my interest.
At its current $300 price tag, the logical side of me could NEVER justify
making the purchase right after buying my Commando.
However, it IS the holiday season.:cool:
If it were to get marked down significantly for a Black Friday or Christmas sale,
that might make me look at it a bit closer.
I'm pretty ashamed to say that, as this kind of phone goes against every reason
I had for buying the Commando. ;)

Even though it seems to be one badass devise,
I already have some concerns:

1. One of the many reasons that I bought the Commando was for its speakers.
I work in a pretty noisy environment most of the time, and I need something with
good LOUD speakers to hear incoming calls.
Most smartphone's speakers really suck.
How did you find the Razr's speakers to be in comparison to the Commando?

2. The Battery.
It only has a 1700 in it.
As you know, I'm not even impressed with the new Mugen 1800 that we have in the
Commando. The Razr's screen is considerably bigger, which will suck alot more juice,
and with a 1700 I would imagine the battery life on that thing is horrible.
Not to mention that there is ZERO hope for an extended battery as the OEM battery
CAN'T EVEN BE REMOVED! :rolleyes:
Also, does that mean that even if your device is in perfect
working order, that whenever the battery dies, you're now out a phone??? :eek:
VERY BAD DESIGN FLAW on that one, if you ask me.

3. Then there are the obvious reasons of durability.
Not waterproof, shockproof, open ports....bla bla bla.
It truly IS a desk jockey's devise. ;)
BUT A DAMN NICE ONE AT THAT! :D



Actually, now that I'm done writing all of this....
THE RAZR ISNT LOOKING SO GOOD TO ME AT ALL!
WHY IN THE HELL WOULD I WANT TO GO BACKWARDS???? :D:D:D

It's a nice devise, but probably won't be replacing my Commando. :)
 
Yeah, it is a nice phone/device. I was a tad disappointed with the speaker, but nothing beats the commando speaker, I'm spoiled. That's probably why it didn't sound as loud and was more tinny. I thought the ear piece volume when in a call was inadequate also, at least for me, again spoiled by the commando's all around excellent volume. It is better built than most but can't hold a candle up against the commando for durability. I love the way our commandos are completely sealed, no open ports at all, no leaks.
If I was due an upgrade it might be tempting, but I'm not so gonna hang with my C771 for quite awhile I think. One thing I've noticed in my own personal preferences is build quality is very high on my list of "must haves" now. I'm going to be very interested in seeing what Casio comes out with in their next incarnation of commando. Maybe by next summer???
Your right about the battery tho. Even a 1700+ is to small. Also, I hear a battery change requires a return to moto and wtf do ya do while your waiting? Most people would probably just have moved on by then, but?? FWIW, my 1800 seems better than before. Maybe it's finally hitting it's stride. I'm more glad I got it than at first.
Finally, one more commando kudo over the razr. The way it feels in hand. so solid. The thinness of the razr was just over the top imo. Hard to use one handed for me as well. To wide.
We're in the minority here guys, a truly niche device, but it's a well kept secret imo. I hope Casio doesn't stop making these baby's.:cool:+:cool:
 
A coworker got a razr. And an otter box. It makes the thing so fricken huge, and probably still doesn't have the same protection as the commando. I'm clumsy with phones, so the commando is right for me. I hope in two years the next g'zOne is as well built
 
X3 FOR THE NEXT CASIO RUGGED SMARTPHONE! :cool:
That's most likely what I'll hold out for as well.
I just hope that Casio improves on performance.
Not that the Commando has bad performance,
but it is pretty far behind the standard for a phone
that was released not too long ago.

The other alternative,
is maybe Moto, HTC, and Samsung should get a clue that there
are quite a few consumers out there that would prefer a sturdy device
as opposed to a pretty one. :cool:
There has to be someone that can successful combine the two.
Actually, I don't think Casio did a bad job with that part.
I think the Commando is a great looking phone,
but I've also had some people tell me how ugly it is.
Guess it depends on who they want to impress, haha. ;)
 
Ugly?? Not by a long shot. Some of those 4G power gulping devices with the super extended batteries+ humpback battery covers are ugly.
Those people are just jealous BT. they wish they'd gotten a commando instead of their rebooting all the time tbolt or something. ;)
 
Well Cbreze i believe it was you that asked about this in one of the other threads so here it is. My doh doh buddy got one and I've had a week to steal it off his desk and mess with it, he hasn't bricked it yet as I thought he would so I havn't had a legit reason to bogart it for a whole day. It seems sturdy, very rigid for being so thin. It's light, but huge, it doesnt fit in the front pocket of my uniform shirt where I have worn my smartphones for 3 years now, and a pen and note book prior to them. It is snappy, way more responsive than the commando but it is awkward, I have wide hands and can reach across it easily one handed, upside down it would be easy to navigate because of the hump, but right side up its so thin I almost fumble it when I try to thumb for the lower portion of the screen. Also I dont really believe in the "Nano" particles they supposedly dusted the thing with if it were possible to use a particulate to water proof IC chips I dont think the military would still be wasting its time and money to pay folks like me to check and replace o-rings on electronics. I do think that they may have made the openings for the speaker etc small enough that water would have to break surface tension to penetrate, my buddy wouldn't let me subject his expensive toy to the bucket trick to find out though, smarter than I thought... long story short of it, I decided to go for an X2 for my wife at less than a third the cost, if she soaks it its insured, thats the only way to make your insuraunce pay for itself anyhow right? The X2 seems just as responsive and it pulls in 37~ hours on a charge with medium use. 4G isnt a factor in my locale.

I will not defect, all a hail Commando!

P.S. didnt get a commando for the wife as she thinks it's horrendous looking and works in a medical office, I guess the slab tabs look more "professional" in her world... hopefully hers will see ICS next year, I have a feeling ours wont.

I'm with you John, When I checked out the razr it was pretty much as I expected, but the size thing is relative to who's holding/using it and for me that was pretty much a turnoff. It acts nice and is fast, but if I don't like the way it feels and have trouble with using one handed then.......?????
It's the latest and greatest only until next week or next month. My commando just flat out rocks and does just what I need. It feels so solid and fantastic, while the razr seemed more like a roofing shingle size wise.:p I much prefer a pocket-able device and I got that. Plus the speaker is the best of any phone ever imo. The razr can't touch it. Be interesting to see what casio comes out with for a sequel. I'm good as is, as well.
 
I'm what you call a "high-tech-redneck"; Im a total hillbilly, but I like my gadgets. I run heavy equipment for a living, and hunt/fish/camp in my off time. NO OTHER PHONES have ever held up like the G'zOne phones. Ive had the Boulder & the Brigade, and always thought "Casio needs to make a smartphone". Voila! Commando. Ive had mine since the day they came out ( actually 2 replacements, "software issues" wink, wink). The only phone that will be replacing my commando is the next G'zOne smartphone - I hope. This phone has been dropped, submerged, heated up cooled down, and I use the music player in the shower. I wont be defecting anytime soon.
 
The fella at Best Buy in Eau Claire Wi. says that they can't seem to keep enough commandos in stock. They fly out of there. My husband is a truckdriver and needs a sturdy phone. He loves his commando. He had Ravine before that.
 
I'm guy that shouldn't own any smart phone, I use few of the features and I'm not very nimble in it's use. I bought the Commando because the sound from the earpiece was the best of any phone I tried, owned the incredible for 3 weeks and it was bad soundwise. I'm more than disappointed with the camera, but I'm going to gut it out until my contract expires, then explore another avenue.

I have the same issue, I'm from a small desert town in California, my phones have a tendency to fly off the back of dirtbikes, take side routes down the hills while climbing, etc, I bought my first ruggedized phone 3yrs ago or so and I haven't looked back, no other phone has survived like this since the old Motorola brick I carried back in 01 or so...the razr looks like a cute toy but I need a phone that wont fall apart the first time it falls off the roof or gets a wrench dropped on it.
 
The extended battery and new back for the Droid X is barley noticeable. Actually if you didn't know better, you'd never notice it. Can't speak for other phones though. The 'non-removable' battery on the Razr is kinda strange for sure. I'm assuming it can be replaced though, right? Right?
