Any introverts here?

I recently discovered the fact that I am an introvert. According to the unofficial online assessment "test" it turns out that I am indeed introverted and doing more research, a lot of the things I have read describes me to a T. A lot of things fell into place for me

according to the reading and the "test" results I am apparently an INTP type.

Are you an introvert?

If you are not sure, you can check here:

Personality test based on Jung and Briggs Myers typology

I'm an INTP also.

Generally, if you're energized by being around people, you're an extrovert. If it tires you, you're an introvert.

As much as I love my friends, I need my me time to recharge.

Definitely an introvert.... Well except here ;)

Took me to my last year of college to really come out of my shell at all.

I am 34 and just now realizing it. I thought I was just some weird loner / looser or something. I knew I was not really a people person. No wonder its so hard to meet women. I thought I was just shy, but yeah, I guess I am. It takes me a while before I open up to people and even longer if its a woman I am attracted to.

You're definitely not alone - introvert here as well!

In various courses at work, back in school, etc - I've done many personality tests, and always (to no surprise) come out as an introvert. :)

I guess I'll help you poor schmoes out, but for the record this has nothing to do with "being empathetic towards others" from that quiz :p

Faking It | Men's Health

The article talks about how you can "Fake" being extroverted and eventually feel more comfortable meeting new people.

Also, in my experiences, I've found that being an introvert or an extrovert has a lot to do with one's self-esteem. So go ahead and pull a "George McFly". Write a space romance novel, punch a Biff in the face. "If you put your mind to it, you can do anything!" God, I need to stop watching so much television.....

Introvert here. didn't have to take a test to tell me that. People are AWESOME as long as they stay out of my zip code :D

Married with Kids, Has Computer, Phone, and You Guys what else could a Man need :p

INTJ here too. I'm trying to recall what I got when I took it in high school (about 12 years ago), and I think it was the same.
I'm all for social parties and such, but generally prefer a lot of alone time or time with the wife.

Well, took the "test". Here's my results.

Here's a description:

As an ENTP, your primary mode of living is focused externally, where you take things in primarily via your intuition. Your secondary mode is internal, where you deal with things rationally and logically.

With Extraverted Intuition dominating their personality, the ENTP's primary interest in life is understanding the world that they live in. They are constantly absorbing ideas and images about the situations they are presented in their lives. Using their intuition to process this information, they are usually extremely quick and accurate in their ability to size up a situation. With the exception of their ENFP cousin, the ENTP has a deeper understanding of their environment than any of the other types.

This ability to intuitively understand people and situations puts the ENTP at a distinct advantage in their lives. They generally understand things quickly and with great depth. Accordingly, they are quite flexible and adapt well to a wide range of tasks. They are good at most anything that interests them. As they grow and further develop their intuitive abilities and insights, they become very aware of possibilities, and this makes them quite resourceful when solving problems.

ENTPs are idea people. Their perceptive abilities cause them to see possibilities everywhere. They get excited and enthusiastic about their ideas, and are able to spread their enthusiasm to others. In this way, they get the support that they need to fulfill their visions.

ENTPs are less interested in developing plans of actions or making decisions than they are in generating possibilities and ideas. Following through on the implementation of an idea is usually a chore to the ENTP. For some ENTPs, this results in the habit of never finishing what they start. The ENTP who has not developed their Thinking process will have problems with jumping enthusiastically from idea to idea, without following through on their plans. The ENTP needs to take care to think through their ideas fully in order to take advantage of them.

The ENTP's auxiliary process of Introverted Thinking drives their decision making process. Although the ENTP is more interested in absorbing information than in making decisions, they are quite rational and logical in reaching conclusions. When they apply Thinking to their Intuitive perceptions, the outcome can be very powerful indeed. A well-developed ENTP is extremely visionary, inventive, and enterprising.

ENTPs are fluent conversationalists, mentally quick, and enjoy verbal sparring with others. They love to debate issues, and may even switch sides sometimes just for the love of the debate. When they express their underlying principles, however, they may feel awkward and speak abruptly and intensely.

The ENTP personality type is sometimes referred to the "Lawyer" type. The ENTP "lawyer" quickly and accurately understands a situation, and objectively and logically acts upon the situation. Their Thinking side makes their actions and decisions based on an objective list of rules or laws. If the ENTP was defending someone who had actually committed a crime, they are likely to take advantage of quirks in the law that will get their client off the hook. If they were to actually win the case, they would see their actions as completely fair and proper to the situation, because their actions were lawful. The guilt or innocence of their client would not be as relevant. If this type of reasoning goes uncompletely unchecked by the ENTP, it could result in a character that is perceived by others as unethical or even dishonest. The ENTP, who does not naturally consider the more personal or human element in decision making, should take care to notice the subjective, personal side of situations. This is a potential problem are for ENTPs. Although their logical abilities lend strength and purpose to the ENTP, they may also isolate them from their feelings and from other people.

The least developed area for the ENTP is the Sensing-Feeling arena. If the Sensing areas are neglected, the ENTP may tend to not take care of details in their life. If the Feeling part of themself is neglected, the ENTP may not value other people's input enough, or may become overly harsh and aggressive.

Under stress, the ENTP may lose their ability to generate possibilities, and become obsessed with minor details. These details may seem to be extremely important to the ENTP, but in reality are usually not important to the big picture.

In general, ENTPs are upbeat visionaries. They highly value knowledge, and spend much of their lives seeking a higher understanding. They live in the world of possibilities, and become excited about concepts, challenges and difficulties. When presented with a problem, they're good at improvising and quickly come up with a creative solution. Creative, clever, curious, and theoretical, ENTPs have a broad range of possibilities in their lives.

For the most part, that's shockingly accurate o.O

Didn't answer enough questions - questions didn't have the right responses. Nothing is in black and white, so for some questions "sometimes" should have been added.
If that was an extra for school - I would have written in NOYFB.

Introvert.

I agree with just the two answers there are things that are situational. Everything depends on the circumstances.

INTJ here too. 100% expressed introversion, but I could have told you that without a test :p

For those unfamiliar -

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The thing to remember here is that the metrics indicate preferences, not stuff set in stone.

I learned that going through a long version of the test, administered by some psych group.

I'm a -NTp.

I scored evenly on introverted and extroverted and couldn't be classed. Naturally this led to jokes (ok, led by me) that I was missing a piece, but essentially, I don't have a preference for communication or decision making along either line. I very nearly scored as neutral on perceiving or judging, but just nicked over the edge on the last part.

And because there is so much choice in how we approach life and each other, here's the thing -

This thread is as largely about opinions as facts.

OK to explore opinions, agree, disagree, go for it.

But no more making replies personal, ok?

That's not fun for anyone.

It's okay for anyone here to go back and change or add clarity to their posts now deleted. I think that is a hint to more than one party here. ;) :)

Well, took the "test". Here's my results.

I am an entp too. I took this test in class a few years ago, and that's what I was. I think it is pretty accurate, however, I tend to become more or less introverted based on my weight. I guess it is the whole self esteem issue. I am very intuitive, and often have a hard time explaining to people where my ideas about the world come from.

For me I can be an extrovert when in comfortable situations and places. At church, work, and certain gatherings, I am more of an Extrovert. If at a party I'm more the introvert. But then again it depends on the party. The overall I am an Introvert.

So is it just my thinking or would you agree that Introverts tend to be more controlling than extroverts? I know for me I like to control my environment. Which is why I hang out so much on my computer and phone. They are environments I can control. Which again control issues goes back to self esteem.

^
This is the best explanation to me. After going to a party or something like that, I usually like to stay home the next day to recharge my batteries. I've done some reading on this in the past, and that's the simple test IMO. I also agree that the yes and no questions are totally inadequate, but I took it anyway, and it says i'm INTJ.

I'm relatively introverted (I also suffer from social anxiety), but it really depends on the situation.

I'm not a good conversation starter, but I'm really good at conversing with people and speaking. During high school I was involved with theater club, and actually sang, dance, and acted as the lead in Bye Bye Birdie.

I'm really poor at establishing connections though :/

I tried the test. I don't understand 25% of the questions and thus answered 'No' :<
-You are more interested in a general idea than in the details of its realization
-Strict observance of the established rules is likely to prevent a good outcome
-You often think about humankind and its destiny
-You often contemplate about the complexity of life
<-- what are these questions trying to ask me? :< I find them too vague to be a question.

I'm reading on ESTJ and I don't know if that's me, lol.

Oh, on the career page of an ESTJ, it seems that they got that right as I'm an Accountant.

For me, I rather be an extrovert but if I don't get the right reaction from people, I'll turn into an introvert. At parties/group functions, I'll talk to everyone and see if I click. I'll put A LOT of effort trying to connect to people. If I notice that these people aren't putting any effort into responding, I turn introvert. Take out a book and read.
