I've no intention of ever buying another Motorola phone. My last being the Photon. I don't like the lack of marketing it didn't receive our the fact Moto abandoned it as quickly as they did.
One thing to keep in mind with Moto is the fact that they were in bed with Verizon and quite honestly, I don't think the fact that they haven't had a profitable quarter in a long time makes me suspect that's why they were in bed with Verizon for their best offerings. Verizon actually pays for marketing/advertising time, whereas the other providers might not want to dump as much money into the Moto Droid line, since they have other more successful brands that would drive up profit margin. Too much of a gamble for T-Mobile, ATT, or Sprint to go full force with advertising their 1 Motorola superphone offering. Verizon can afford it. ATT, somewhat. Sprint and T-Mobile...not so much.
I used to not care about things like marketing, but,in the ANDROID phone game,I've found it to be a good indicator of the level of support the phone will get.
The PHOTON/ATRIX are probably the best examples of a great phone gone bad w/non-existent marketing,over-priced accessories,& FUBAR'ed software/firmware support.
Marketing is huge. The iPhone got to the point that it did because of marketing. Many consumers were lead to believe that Apple and Steve Jobs were so "innovative," when in fact...all they were doing was taking pre-existing technologies and tailoring them to Apple, while also getting the US patent office to put a stamp on it being their "invention." We've seen far too many examples. So, if it wasn't really innovative, the only way to make people believe it is market to the masses, to the majority of ignorant consumers that had no clue.
And yes, you're correct about the Photon/Atrix. Both great phone lines, but not worth the potential money that would be lost trying to dump a lot of cash into marketing them.
