Any new phone rumors for Sprint?

I've no intention of ever buying another Motorola phone. My last being the Photon. I don't like the lack of marketing it didn't receive our the fact Moto abandoned it as quickly as they did.

One thing to keep in mind with Moto is the fact that they were in bed with Verizon and quite honestly, I don't think the fact that they haven't had a profitable quarter in a long time makes me suspect that's why they were in bed with Verizon for their best offerings. Verizon actually pays for marketing/advertising time, whereas the other providers might not want to dump as much money into the Moto Droid line, since they have other more successful brands that would drive up profit margin. Too much of a gamble for T-Mobile, ATT, or Sprint to go full force with advertising their 1 Motorola superphone offering. Verizon can afford it. ATT, somewhat. Sprint and T-Mobile...not so much.

I used to not care about things like marketing, but,in the ANDROID phone game,I've found it to be a good indicator of the level of support the phone will get.

The PHOTON/ATRIX are probably the best examples of a great phone gone bad w/non-existent marketing,over-priced accessories,& FUBAR'ed software/firmware support.

Marketing is huge. The iPhone got to the point that it did because of marketing. Many consumers were lead to believe that Apple and Steve Jobs were so "innovative," when in fact...all they were doing was taking pre-existing technologies and tailoring them to Apple, while also getting the US patent office to put a stamp on it being their "invention." We've seen far too many examples. So, if it wasn't really innovative, the only way to make people believe it is market to the masses, to the majority of ignorant consumers that had no clue.

And yes, you're correct about the Photon/Atrix. Both great phone lines, but not worth the potential money that would be lost trying to dump a lot of cash into marketing them.

I totally agree with your reasoning here. But if Motorola, now under Google, can show that they support their phones, I might be interested in looking at them again. I thought I would never consider another Samsung phone, but here I am typing this on my S3. But Motorola will have to prove themselves first. I don't think I will ever be locked in a contract with a Motorola phone just in case.

While I still love the form factor on HTC phones, I don't like the new direction they've taken. There was an article with a HTC executive stating the following:

1) Consumers aren't worried about battery life and concentrate more on how thin their phone is (this was in response to the 2100mah non-removable battery in LTEvo)

2) Eventually, technology will move away from having microSD slots because people will rely more on the cloud.

When I saw those statements coming from HTC executives talking about the direction they were going in, I automatically tuned out. I have no clue who put that logic in their heads, but those are 2 things that are actually extremely important to me. Especially now, having experienced the Note 2 and its incredible battery life, I can't go back to anything less than a thin 3100 mah battery.

htc has made a lot of bad choices.. that i do not believe are customer friendly. they are listening to something/someone else

they sure dont have customer like me in mind. and i think that i am an average consumer.

they have lost touch.. and need to find their way back soon.. or disappear

Why not? I believe this would be their first opertunity, right?

It would tarnish the Nexus brand, and also piss off all the other OEMs if Google did sell it in the Play Store and undercut Samsung, HTC etc. The Play Store is for Nexus devices. There's also the bit where Google said time and time again, Motorola would be separate from Google. Selling Moto products, with a custom UI and bloat in the Play Store would not make them separate.

I don't think it would tarnish the Nexus brand, but it would break the tradition of selling only Nexus brand in the play store. And yes it would piss off the other OEMs. But I think that would be a good thing. Then we might see competitive pricing with the OEMs. If the Motorola X is a real phone, then obviously Google is making there move into the cell phone market with Motorola. Do you really think that Google can keep them both separate for long?

You don't think having a device that isn't pure Android in a store that sells pure Android devices wouldn't tarnish the brand? Consumers purchase the device from the store because it is stock, other than the cheap pricing.

The other bit about the pricing, has to do more with the carriers and also how OEMS would recoup money lost from selling the devices dirt cheap. Google has all of their services on the phones to fall back on for revenue which is why they are able to sell the devices dirt cheap. Other OEMS don't have that luxury.

Google purchased Motorola. Of course they are going to have some influence, but a full takeover and pulling favors, no. Android is as popular as it is today because of OEMs like HTC and Samsung. Google wouldn't want to tarnish the relationship.

Just food for thought, since everything is really speculation and rumor right now. What if this will go along the lines of all the different OEM's coming out with Nexus phones and be offered through the Play Store?

Even though the Motorola X is being rumored to have a 4.7 screen, if they made it a 5.5 inch screen with the Nexus branding, that'd definitely set it apart from the LG Nexus. And there wouldn't be any problems from the OEM's regarding Motorola being the chosen one to create a bigger screened Nexus phone.

Just throwing it out there, but not saying there's any credence to that theory.

Perhaps GOOGLE is just hedging their bets w/MOTOROLA(X), as SAMSUNG is rumored to release its own O/S w/TIZEN & APPLE has iOS.

But, if GOOGLROLA doesn't pull off something similar to the SGS III, as far as universal availability w/their next flagship phone, I don't believe GOOGLE will hang on to the handset part of MOTOROLA MOBILITY much longer, as GOOGLE isn't gun-shy about cutting their losses on a floundering project.

Interesting thought. And you're right that everything is really speculation at this point. We could go round around about this until we here some real news.

I see your logic, but I don't fully agree with you about the tarnishing the Nexus brand. If the phone was labeled as a Nexus phone I would agree with you. But either way I think we can both agree that no Sprint phone would be sold in the Play Store.

As far as Google doing a full takeover of Motorola, if Motorola does not turn a profit, I am sure Google would have no problem with a full takeover. The other OEMs can get mad all they want, but Google is about making money one way or another. But I am sure Google will try to do all they can not to get to that point. Time will tell.

Poor PR decision, but his site had htcs logo and their proprietary software

From what I understand directly from the source, none of the ROMs or RUU's were pre-release based. All of which were from official OTA's. I can understand why they would want the RUU's taken down, but custom ROMs? That's just silly. Especially for a company who's never made any kind of hint (recently) towards being against 3rd party development.

I haven't hardly held a phone to my head since my StarTac or my Razr. Even then preferred a headset.

I don't think that this do dad is as funny as you do.

I think it's funny because I don't really understand the reasoning, with all the bluetooth options available. I'd rather have a bluetooth headset, watch, bracelet and even a necklace before spending money on a "mini" phone. If I'm not using the handset, but I want connectivity to my phone, it's gotta be a hands free device.

Oh, easy, think of it as also, not instead of.

At my last upgrade, rather than the LTEvo, I came this > < close to buying a tablet and a dumbphone. Couldn't find the combination for me, went with the big phone.

Most all situations away, I have a pack or a briefcase. Perfect for small pad, and mostly, I use my phone as a PDA anyway.
Now, with this Mini, I wouldn't need a dumbphone - it is one, really. Dial pad, lightweight, perfect for me. And never be in a situation where I took the dumbphone and then regretted it or vice versa.

The blogosphere is already making fun of this as a gimmick. Maybe it is. But I like the watch idea too, I'm into gadgets and gimmicks.

I can picture a client looking at me funny with a watch, but not so much the Mini.

I don't know, but I find it very interesting, and if it hits and works, seems like more choice to me.

This had to come to mind when 1st seeing this:

:D

Seriously though, the SMART CONTROLLER from MOTO is actually a cool gadget to have, although admittedly I don't use mine that much, usually when the mothership phone is charging up.

I posted about that in the HTC section. Might be a better area to discuss it since its only been in China so far

Both forums would be appropriate,IMHO,as not all HTC owners are on SPRINT.

It wouldn't be the 1ST discussion w/multiple threads,or,forums.

A search of GALAXY S III & battery life comes to mind......

Don't get me wrong, EM. You know me and my fondness of accessories, especially OEM ones that work seemlessly with my smartphone. It's just this product in particular just seems so odd. It's almost like the concept of the Padfone, without being able to dock it in the actual Smartphone and with less capabilities.

Now that is a great idea..

HTC mini... That can doc into multiple size pads..
Mini by itself for easy carry and pocketable
With a bluetooth pen stylus headphone

5 inch for quick smartphone needs

7 inch for mobile computing

10 inch for tablet play

14 inch for major computing.. Laptop use

20 inch for workstation

55 inch for TV media consumption

Of course the next version of the mini...
