Any news about 4.4 ???

If you're referring to va release date for other nexus devices, unfortunately no, there's no solid date yet

No release date yet. Someone has a slightly buggy 4.4 build called SlimKat over at XDA and I'll be building OmniROM in 4.4 as soon as I get the kernel sources, though

From what I can see nothing ground shattering about the update. It does look to have a bit more eye candy and a few tweaks here and there..............

From someone who uses it firsthand.... Its definitely not just another "point update". It brings large changes to android. I wouldn't have been disappointed had they called this 5.0

Then maybe you know of something we don't? The rumors right now floating around to me do not show all that much of an improvement especially to designate a 5.0 status. If you know something please share......................

Edit; Ah now it seems more info is popping on the net about 4.4 so maybe as you say it is not the point update early info was essentially sating it was................

I wouldn't call 4.4 ground breaking but it is decent. I'm looking forward to getting it on my Nexus 10.

Agreed, from what I can see not worth a full version upgrade like to 5.0 but still decent enough of an upgrade...................

What about Googles attempt to thwart custom roms, will that be a huge stumbling point?

What are you referring to?

If you're talking about the new security feature in 4.4 that prevents rootkits, that's not Google attempting to thrwart a custom ROM.

That won't even affect root on any device with an unlockable boot loader.

Any nexus device will not be affected. Rooting and ROMing will continue to be just as easy as before

The "OH no googles blocking custom Roms" you see in blogs is totally off base from that perspective.

I think in the one link they say it just will not be enabled by default. It may be though that the option could be a performance issue for the huge resolution of the tablet.

Thank you for the clarification Rexpert83. I admit I only read it in passing and obviously misunderstood the article.

I think with the custom Roms usually there is improved performance. This may better allow for the graphics of 4.4........

There's been a lot of security enhancements in 4.4, so I was just trying to figure out which one you were referring to.

There's also been a lot of press about how its going to be bad for rooting, but the reality is it won't affect nexus users or any user on an unlockable phone.

Just forced it to update OTA using the services framework trick. Very much stripped down from the Nexus 5 version of KitKat.
