Any news on 4G signal strength fix?

I'm still running my phone in 3g because 4g will drop and my phone won't pick up any network and my battery will drain to 0 in about an hour. Verizon admitted there was a problem and they were working on it. Anyone hear anything or know anything when they are going to release the fix?

P.S. I live in a major metropolitan area smack dab center of one of Verizon's 4g networks. I should have full 4g according to their map wherever I go within a 30 mile radius of my house.
 
I had to return me Nex. due to low or no signal, when I did the talking head at the store said it would come in the first part of Feb. for what its worth. I did try the leaked update while it was a tad better I still had no service at my desk, which is where I am at now with 3 bars on my TBolt.
One difference I see with you is I could not get 3G to work half the time either so it looks like you are a step ahead :-)
 
OP if you don't mind i would like to move this thread to the VZW G Nexus sub forum please. Reason being this is specific to 4G G Nex phones which is only a VZW phone
 
I guess I had over-inflated perceptions of what owning a Nexus would be like. I'm more than a little bummed that there hasn't been a single OTA update since the one one launch day. The signal strength and 3g/4g switching issues seem widespread enough to warrant immediate attention. It is really unacceptable that I can't use 4g at work in an LTE rich market. Second Nexus was no different as I suspected. 4g works great...OUTSIDE!
 
Pretty unhappy as well (bought the car dock a couple cases, an extended battery) but the razr maxx looks pretty appealing at this point if it soon gets ics.
 
have you tried the leaked radios yet. I believe it is the radios that will be in the 4.03 rollout.
 
It seems to me that 4G radio part in Nexus has some issue. It's trying very hard to grab good LTE signal with decent speed, and if that fails it just remains in 3G/CDMA. So it will be in 3G more likely than other VZW 4G phones. This seems fixable via software update.

But 3G and phone part have been very decent in my Nexus, better or on par with most other 3G phones I saw. I visited couple of my church friend's home where Dinc, Vortex usually went down to 1X and barely hanging onto EvDo. Both of them live in VZW's weak spot between hills. But my Nexus was pulling 3G with one bar on both places and I had no problem browsing new sites.

i would bet that the next update we see won't have those leaked radios in it. In fact i think the 4.0.3 update as a whole has been scrapped. Latest i heard was either 4.0.4 or all the way to 4.1


as far as the updates not coming fast enough for this Nexus device. Something to think about.

1. This is a new OS so until all of the small kinks get worked out your not going to see the regular speedy updates that Nexus devices of old saw. Once they get those issues taken care of then i'm sure they'll settle into a good pace of updates.

2. Before anyone starts blaming VZW remember the GSM Nexus hasn't gotten any newer update that we have.

Also i agree that my 3G signal appears to be somewhat more stable than my 4G but either way i'm ready for some new radios myself.
 
I also feel like 4.0.3 is scrapped, which was supposed to hit this month. So maybe 4.0.4 or 4.1 is on the way. I hope it addresses battery drain, rebooting issues as well as 4G connectivity.
 
For those who are in 4G markets, and, thus, should be receiving strong signal, if you continuously lose 4G, swap your phone for a new one. In all likelihood, something is wrong as I don't know (in real life) one person who has a Galaxy Nexus and loses 4G signal on a regular basis, if at all.

Regardless of 4.03 coming out or not, the leaked radios have improved performance for many.

Here is a snippet of some I posted on another thread and I know the is a good discussion going on in the VZW Galaxy Nexus forum

Mine with stock OS doesn't take any longer than 10 seconds to switch to from WiFi, less than 5 seconds most of time. It's pretty fast on WiFi switching.

I think the ones with signal issue will see more improvement with update than others without much signal issue. 4G connection seems somewhat buggy on the edge of LTE area or fringe areas. But it's fine inside LTE covered area.
 
I really don't care when the fix comes out, I just hope there is one. Only disappointment in this phone is 4G signal for me.

this has been my experience. I live on a fringe area of 4G and it sux. If i go into the heart of the city i get really good 4G service.

what sux is my neighbor across the street has the Razr Maxx and his dbm strength blows mine out of the water on 4G ...now as we all know though VZW has said that some phones aren't reporting true 4G sig like the G Nex apparently does....again just going by what VZW has said.
