Help Any problems with the new update?

EarlyMon, thanks so much for your help!

I just found a google forum that talks a lot about this same problem and offered a fix. (Not sure if I can post a link here to another forum so I'm not. But if I can, I will.)

Here's what I did. I sent this link to myself in an email: http://217.152.37.100/Vending.apk

Then I opened the email from my phone, downloaded and installed the .apk. That gave me back my Market app!! I then cleared the cache. I read that a bunch of folks have crashing issues after installing the Market directly and that clearing the cache has helped, so I've got my fingers crossed!

(Note: I emailed that hyperlink to myself because someone's instructions said to. I probably could have just accessed it directly from the phone, but didn't try.)

Thanks folks for helping out!

I searched our forums for you - and found other cases where this happened on other phones and was fixed by a factory reset.

Normally, we don't allow any direct links to any apk files (that nets you an immediate infraction here), but we make an exception for Android-distributed components that everyone can / ought have access to.

Glad that solution worked for you!

Linking to other sites is perfectly ok - provided they're not involved in warez, spamming or scamming - that can net you probation or a ban (Jaws theme plays in the background).

That said, you'll find plenty of links to other sites hereabouts and we're ok with the good ones - and those are the vast majority. ;)

EarlyMon,

Thanks so much for the info! Normally I read through a TOS before I start posting, but I was feeling desperate this morning and just darned excited when I found the fix. I'm glad the .apk I linked squeezed through the narrow exception!

That said, the link to the thread/forum where I found the fix is here: Android Market app disappeared on Samsung Galaxy S 2.2 update - Android Market Help): should anyone need any further information.

I much appreciate your time and your rapid responses. Having been a mod on various forums over the years -- I get it and I'm appreciative!

where do you find your MSL Pin in the first place, so i can record it before i do the update...

That's the magic number you have to get from Sprint service. From what I've heard, sometimes, they'll just give it to you, other times you haggle, other times, they won't give it out.

There's also some protracted method using a Windows program to vampire this number out of your phone - not being a regular Windows user outside of work, I can't vouch for it.

I just searched for you and found this - now this looks much more handy:

[GUIDE] Easy way to get MSL without calling Sprint or using CMDA Workshop - xda-developers

Thanks for that link, EarlyMon. Last night, I tried CDMA Workshop, but no go. I don't think it has been updated for the 2.10 HBOOT. I'll give that a try tonight.

I'm holding off on rooting until there are some more stable root options for this last service update. But I wanted the MSML for a couple of other things.

Edited to add:

Oops! Does not work on EVO (at least as of September 5 - the date of the last post).

Aaaarrrrrggghhh!

Tried it with & without combos of wifi/3g - and also traversing all submenus there, then also while monitoring profile and PRL updates.

If I find anything, I'll post back - I'm going to try any radio goodies I can think of.

PS - Going to try this later, but from that same thread, they say this works for rooted Evos:

I never tried the log method, but I did use CDMA workshop to get my MSL. Then, two weeks ago I called Sprint about my 4G lag, and the first official procedure for dealing with people that have 4G issues is to reset some settings. They needed to access ##DATA# and they read out my MSL to me.

Is this where I should post this question? I don't use much 4G as it eats my battery horribly. But now when I first power up, it starts in 4G. Why is it doing that?

I just upgraded with the new OTA, had to fix the Swype thing from beta, and would like to keep 3G as default on powering up. How to do that?

Thanx, and I do that. But why does it keep defaulting to 4G on start-up? It didn't used to do that.

It's not the end of the world because I am now careful to make sure it's never on 4G, but why does it jump to that on power-up and randomly at other times, even when not surfing?

Cathie,
It definitely shouldn't be doing that. I've updated 3 phones and haven't seen that.

Try putting your phone into Airplane mode, then off Airplane mode, then re-booting to see if it still defaults to 4G.

You can also install the 4G widget on your desktop as a shortcut to turning 4G on and off.

My time is off. Keep going into settings and unchecking/checking the box for the auto time - it works for awhile, then reverts back to being 11 hours ahead! Did anyone with this problem do a hard reset and have it corrected?

My Evo just upgraded its firmware yesterday and my phone started acting wonkey. First, it turned on my 3G antenne while it was connected to WiFi at the same time. My battery drained quickly after that. I reset it, the 3G shut off. But since then, my phone is having issues taking a charge. I woke up twice last night because it reset itself on the charger. When I got up 8hrs later, it still showed it was low. At 2pm I took it off the charger, 6hrs after I noticed it was still changing and it was still not fully charged. Is this happening to anyone? Its been on the charger since and still is not full.

any suggestions, my evo is burning my leg while in my pocket it is getting so hot. I have an extended battery that has been getting about 20 hours or so each day until i did the software update yesterday. I stopped google talk, i stopped Facebook for sense, i have taken off all widgets, and the thing just keeps heating up and that 20 hours or so of battery life has turned into about 4 - 7 hours the last day and a half.

Havent had any battery problems before the update yesterday, any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

See? Thats the same thing happening to me! My phone has been on the charger for 2 days straight and just NOW is fully charged!

Guess this thread was merged to another. I couldnt find another one.
