Any Time is Grillin Time

A couple questions----

What is the best way to do corn on the cob on the grill? We tend to nuke em if we got em.

I grilled some strip steak the other night. Perfectly grilled medium rare, of course :) but a bit tough. Do you have a good tenderizer recipe I could try?

Corn onf the cob on the grill you can soak the un shucked cobs in a bucket of water and then put them right on the grill until the husks start to brown and it smells like corn. The water absorbed into the husk and cornsilk will steam the corn. I've always done it at burger cooking temp, but it varies depending on grill surface (steel, stainless, cast iron).

I've never soaked em. I peel off the bulk of the husk until you're left with about one layer. Cut off all the silk on the top with scissors cause they'll just burn. Grill at a lowish temp for a while and rotate only when the husk looks nearly burned.

I soak mine as Unforgiven. The corn will be perfect when the husks are all dried out and starting to brown.

I'm doing a Boston butt tomorrow. I have it all rubbed down and ready to smoke. The kids are all coming over tomorrow and pulled pork was requested. It sounds good to me as well.
Can't wait.

I've been called on to bring pulled pork for our family get together the 4th. Being as dinner is going to be early, I'm smoking my Boston butts tomorrow. I'm smoking two for fear one might not be enough to feed the whole crew. Better to have too much than not enough.

If you and up with leftovers and have a seal-a-meal (vacuum sealer) the pulled pork freezes quite well. I just add a tablespoon of BBQ sauce for moisture and freeze it in one pound(ish) servings. Then I can thaw and warm it up and have enough for a quick couple of sandwiches.

Probably the best BBQ they get all year, unless you have other smokers in the family. :)

I ran out of propane last night.I thought there was some left in the spare tank, but that was empty too. Took them both to the hardware store to get filled and the store was closed. It closes at 6 pm and it was 6:07. Luckily the gas station has a tank exchange.

Just pizza burgers tonight. Gotta grill something on Independance Day!

The blue dot on this map is where we live. I have mentioned before that we live in the woods We are the only full time residents. July 4th is the busiest time on our roads. The weekenders are up in force tearing up our gravel road. The funny thing is, the owners of the properties are nice people. It's the people they invite up that do the damage.

That sounds like my lease property. The only time there is traffic down there is on a holiday weekend. Any other time and the whole area is deserted. There is a decent gravel road going in there and it's only a mile or so off of a paved rural road. It's pretty tucked away so the only traffic is a farmer and people with leases.. and their holiday guests.

Here's the smoker my buddy and I are using now. Makes unbelievable pork butts, and ribs. Have to really watch the chickens, but they are doable. OMG is it good eatin! :D

That is one sweet looking smoker. I only have surface to do 4 butts at a time. That is normally enough though. I rarely smoke more than two at a time. I would go crazy smoking in that monster. It would be a lot of fun.

Has anyone smoked salt for a spice? I was talking to kid that grew up with my son who loves smokin meats. He was telling me about smoking sea salt and bottling it for xmas gifts this year. He talked like it takes salt to a whole new level. He also added that normal salt won't take the smoke like sea salt.
I thought it was interesting. I might try smoking some for the table... though I'm not a big salt consumer.

I've seen it, never tried it tho. :o

What would a man do without a package of hamburger and a grill? Working long hours and avoiding fast food at all costs, I find myself grilling a burger and having a handful of chips more often than not. Sometimes I grill some onions and sometimes I toast the buns. Cheese sometimes, pickles sometimes, and the works sometimes make for a great quick meal.

Tonight I'm grilling some boneless skinless chicken thighs. They were rubbed with garlic and have a bit of salt and pepper on them. No bbq tonight. Garlic chicken and broccoli and rice.

I know we discussed this before but your definitions of bbq and grilling isn't clear to me.

Maybe because we seem to have different definitions. :) Also, it might depend if you are using BBQ as a noun or a verb. My personal understanding is that, if it is cooked outside on a grill, using an open flame, it is a BBQ. Now granted, it does almost always include a rub or a BBQ sauce.
