Any word on ICS for the Amaze?

Probably a dumb question, but...I know installing this unofficial official leak update wipes all photos and music on the internal SD storage, but does it otherwise install same as the OTA update will? IOW, does it leave apps, settings, etc intact?

Im pretty sure that by flashing this all your data would be erased.
The best option would be to use mybackup pro, or the free version and back up everything. Then after you install the update you will be able to just restore it off of the mybackup servers.

When I did this update. EVERYTHING as in the way of games and setting are gone. I was a level 9 car on Drag Race now im starting over. One thing that was cool all my contacts migrated back it even saved all my appts on my calendar. As for downloads on the EXTSD everything was there. Im already seeing dramatic battery life change with the update and the phone runs really fast now. Also the play store will not remember everything your download likes its suppose to. I think because some of the other programs I downloaded maybe not ICS compatible. One thing thats cool it frees up alot of space on teh main screen.

I installed it today. It wiped everything on the internal SD but left the external SD alone. IOW it installed like a RUU not an update.zip so basically like starting with a new phone, but it's working great.

The OTA update should leave everything as is.

The ota update should keep everything but I heard that it is best to reset the phone when it goes through a major update like this. So what we did was probably the best thing for the phone.

Glad we were able to get things figured out and your enjoying your new phone. There are lots of perks, and tricks with this new update!

ICS for the Amaze shows many improvements against Gingerbread.
Things that I Noticed:
- that I like the dark theme better than the light theme. (But thats personnal prefrence)
- The Facelock feature is very amusing to use but is good at recognizing faces if you train it well.
- Text looks a little bigger and bolded. More sharper which means clearer reading
- Speaker quality has gone up.
- Bluetooth Connectivy Range has increased.
- Wifi is much stronger.
- The User Interface is much more pleasant to use.
- Quadrant Score for me is at 3100 now. It used to be at 2400.
- Data speed for me reached 17 Mbps

So overall the update makes this phone more amazing. It fixed a bunch of glitches and it runs really smoothly. Now i can truly say i own a Htc "Amaze"

I got ICS this morning. One odd thing I noticed is that the "Tags" app that came on the phone with 2.3.4 is now gone . Anyone know how to get it back? I really want it back considering the company my dad works for is producing those NFC tags right now and I liked testing them when I could.

I am on telus Canada. When I try and do the software update, it says there isn't one. Is there a way I can download it from somewhere and install from my pc, or phone?

ok got the ota update however i dont know if i got the facelock how can i tell and also were the updates all the same ..my phone is from t mobile however i use the simply mobile network... would that make any difference...

To Check for Facelock (which is pretty cool)
go to
Setting >> Security >> Screen Lock >> And then choose Facelock

You will notice if it ICS if it looks different then before. Like way different.
Or you can go to about phone and look at the software information.
I believe that it doesnt matter if your on the actual tmobile service. As long as its a tmobile branded amaze then your fine.

If you cant update try going to About Phone and clicking HTC software Update.

This can be installed on a totally stock phone. No need to be rooted, unlocked bootloader, etc. No need for a pc - it can downloaded directly to the phone and installed. You do need a SD card.

Be warned:

1. This version is for US T-Mobile phones and will update to the exact same version as the OTA. I don't know of one available for specifically for Telus and don't know if it will work for that. Install at your own risk!
2. This is an RUU, not an update.zip. IOW it wipes everything and does a clean install. So unlike the OTA, it will be like you got a new phone. You will lose apps, settings and everything else on the internal storage. Do backups! The external SD will be left as is.
3. The upside to this is...because this file does a wipe and full install rather than an update, it may avoid some problems. Starting fresh can be good.

To install put it in the root of your external SD and rename to PH85IMG.zip. Then power off, pull battery for 30 seconds, replace. Hold volume down + power and follow the menu choices. Be patient, it will take a while. DO NOT power off before it finishes!

I've actually been using a build earlier than this one for a while. This build has some minor changes and bug fixes made since the one I'm using but I haven't bothered to update to this latest version since everything is running so well as is.

So has anyone gotten the OTA for their Amaze on TMobile? I enquired about the update on June 4th and they said that is THE ACTUAL day they are rolling out the OTA it just started. But I was told May20th. When I try to check for updates it says none are available. I have the leak ICS update installed already but would like to get the OTA as I am told there are differences.

If either the 1st or 2nd leak is installed you will not get the OTA because they are detected as the same as the OTA. The 2nd leak actually is the same. The 1st leak is slightly different, but only minor changes were made. All 3 are ICS 4.0.3.

If you're on the 1st leak and having no problems it's probably not worth updating. I'm still running the 1st leak perfectly and haven't bothered to update 'cause I don't want to have to setup the phone again.

If another OTA is ever released with significant differences it should install normally.

Well it was the leak you guys gave me i think second one.... good lord i dont want to go through all the stuff I had to do to get my phone back the way I wanted it. So the second leaked is the ICS official? I know I cant use the stock email on it as it doesnt high any links at all and if it does its random at best. Noone can figure this out.

It's my understanding that the 2nd leak updates to exactly the same version as the OTA, yes. As I said, I'm still using the 1st leak with no problems.

Don't know about bugs in the stock email client as I always use Enhanced Email which is similar but with far more options and capabilities. You might try that or K9, etc. and see if the problem persists.

The First Leak does not get an OTA update.
But the Second one doesnt aswell.
It says it on the tmobile support page. (Ill include a screenshot of the part where it says what requirements you need for the update)

The Second Leak and OTA have differences like tweaks and the fix for the mail app.

I think you can just install this OTA File through recovery by clicking install update.zip.

I think you put the file in the internal sd card.
It works as a OTA so it should delete any of your data.
(Especially your Games)

The link above is (I think) for the 2nd leak which is the version identical to the OTA.

However, just to be clear, it is NOT the actual OTA file and it does NOT install like the OTA! The OTA leaves apps, settings, etc. intact. This file installs as a RUU file, meaning it will clear out everything on the phone (except on the external SD card). When installed, it will be like starting from scratch with a new phone.

If anyone has a link to download the actual OTA update file it would be good to post it in this thread. I haven't seen one anywhere.

Well from what ive researched, in order to go to the OTA version of ICS, you have to be S-Off in order to go back to Stock GB.
Then you install the update.

I found the OTA file.
From what ive heard, you have to place this in the download folder in your Internal Storage.

Highlighted URLs in e-mail not acting as before may be a present from Apple. They successfully sued HTC based on an Apple patent (though Blackberry and other mobiles had prior art).

It started on May 21, but from what I've heard they're only doing 10,000 phones at a time, so as to avoid a catastrophe. I was notified of availability on my phone May 25. Just keep trying the "Check for updates" every day or two. Ensure "check automatically" is enabled.

While you're on 2.3.4, download all the HTC Hub widgets you can except for Notes and Tasks (which are now full-blown apps under Sense 3.6). You can't get them after the update, don't ask me why.

If anyone can retrieve the add-on widgets' APK files with AirDroid or rooting their phone, please post online somewhere.

What do you mean by this. I am rooted but im already on Sense 3.6 ICS.
If there is anything that i can do since i am rooted then just let me know.

Well if you find some way to download the 3.0 widgets from HTC Hub, e.g. Fortune Cookie, Sand Timer, Call Mom, False Call, etc., please do so. ;)

Lol I have all the files. Let me grab them for ya. Have saved them a long time ago. Its been a while since I have been here. Better now then never
