Root Anybody been able to root 2.3.4 yet?

So I know 2.3.3 on our phone is rooted, but I haven't seen anything recent pertaining to rooting 2.3.4. Does anyone know a method to doing it? I really want to root my phone and flash a vanilla GB rom.
 
No, there is no root directly from 2.3.4. I personally don't see one coming. There is a thread around here where you can downgrade to 2.3.3. Then you can root from there.
 
Boy, boy, boy i am gonna have to look into that. I am currently on 2.3.4 and itching to root to get a decent ICS 4.0 port.
I really wish that there was someone on my neck of the swamp that was tech savvy with hTC Android phones to guide me. I know you must make a nanDroid backup to recover if anything goes wrong so you can recover, so no worries about the actual process, it just seems out of my reach because i don't have my own machine or pc to do it on.

All the being able to flash custom roms seems very appealing to me because i am constantly changing my wallpaper, skins and layout on homescreens, so i know i would love to be able to do that with roms never to be stuck or tied down to anything, unlimited customization on a hTC phone that is already insanely customizable stock right out of the box... :)
 
Well, I went ahead and did this last night. I had my phone downgraded and rooted in about an hour. Actually was very painless.

Now I just need to learn what all the lingo means when reading through the different ROMs.

I can honestly say that the sticky post how to root 2.3.3 i *might* be able to do but, the downgrade instructions are beyond me right now.

The downgrade was the easiest part. Download the kit and extract the zip file. Turn Fastboot off and turn on debugging.

Plug your phone into the USB and choose charge only mode.

Open a command screen (CMD.EXE) as administrator.

Navigate to where you extracted the kit. type in vwhk-12102011-c.cmd and press enter. The script will take over from there.
 
Someone should start a good thread (if they haven't already, sorry, haven't checked) with a 'How-to' so it can get some sticky action and help out the most people.

That or the OP (if they are the best to do it) edit the first post and do a step-by-step.

Either way it is really up to you guys/gals who actually have the phone to determine what steps are the most useful. Feel free whomever to start a new thread, edit this one or whatever and let me know (or just report it) when it is ready.

I've had this phone 2 days and I can barely keep myself from rooting it. I promised is hold off because I don't have the time to spend fixing anything I break (family thinks I'm obsessed, what do they know :p). But once you have real control over your phone it's unsatisfying to go back to ordinary, walled garden mode. G.Adams you won't know how you lived without it!

Might give it a shot after phone charges. Can't .... resist ....

Thanks, my family and most of the people around me think i am obsessed too but, hey, people gotta have hobbies right? Just because i know someone likes something or is into this or that, i would not tell them or think they are obsessed with it, that is just what they like and is their pastime hobby.
They just don't understand... ;)
Android forums does though! :)
