Anybody looking at moving to the G2?

I've been seeing ads for it for almost a month. If it launches with 4.3 I'm definitely gonna try to get it. 4.2 maybe. 4.1 I will pass on..don't wanna risk slow updates like the spectrum

Locked bootloader would be a game breaker for me on this, but if they found a 2nd init or a way to unlock the BL, i'd probably consider it instead of a Moto X Dev Ed.

Went to Verizon store and tested four tabs in Chrome with lot of pictures in pbase.com and noticeable freezing. On Samsung tablet 10.1 did not freeze. Netflix.com queue 450+ completes freeze on phone for 15 second after loading. Unacceptable. HTC Droid DNA did freeze repeatedly every second, also better scrolling.

Bootloader is locked, however root is achieved already. Major of the reviews have been 10 times more positive than the Spectrum reviews. Sounds lg has done good, then typical Verizon over bloat.

The "rooted status" indicator doesn't sit well for me especially if I'm paying full retail and the VZW model is the only one with this "feature". I'm hopefully with the fact that multiple carriers have the phone, that the boot loader will be fixed, but I'm not holding my breath on it.

From what I have been reading so far, with the exception of all the vzw bloat, root and modification isn't in desperate need. Although I'm sure CM or AOKP would be amazing on it. I'm all but decided i'm going to get it.

I tether too often to not have that available and I'm still on the unlimited plan, so using the built in tether is not really an option. I'll still be keeping an eye on it, but I'm still leaning towards a "dev edition" phone if I'm paying full retail on it.

Keep us up to date on how it handles. I'd love to hear some real world feed back instead of the on-line hype.

Cool. Tell us if you replace the Launcher...

And if you are going to get a wireless charger...

Also, I'd be interested in knowing how well it streams BT (if you have a BT radio in your car). And here's one for you: can I get the version of Google Maps/Nav (6.x) that preceded the horrible update they put out there in 7.x? The good ones are v6.x through 6.13 or 6.14. I think. The one with numerous U.I. issues is 7.x.

Setting the Market not to auto-update and uninstalling any update to Maps / installing something 6.x via a side-load is one thing that is critical to me. I'm hyper directionally-challenged, and Google Nav is an app I just have to have working.

If the out-of-box config was Maps 7.x, I'd be crushed. I might forgo upgrading from my Spectrum all together.

Thats nothing root cant fix :p

bones, what you write is true of course. it seems a shame you might have to root a phone, just to make it work the way you want.

oh wait, that's been my experience in every android phone i've purchased.:smokingsomb:

it's sweet when you can run stock for a few months so you can appreciate the improved, leaner, meaner device.

Sticking with the stock launcher for now, it moves so freaking quick and smooth. I generally don't use bt at all, next time I'm in the wife's car I'll try to test. Gmaps is 7.2.0. Not a problem for me as I'm like a human map and not dependent on navigation. So far I'm loving and It's pretty much still all stock uprooted. I'm using SwiftKey, but that's the only thing that changed. I love the knock on feature and the back button. No regrets as of now. I'd really urge you to just go check it out. If you buy online through vzw 'verizon30' will get you 30%off.

Oh and the display! It's simply amazing. Take how awesome we all thought the spec display was and quadruple it. This thing is insane. LG preloaded a couple vids of exotic scenery, they are amazing to watch. So much detail and vivid colors.

hollywoods. do report on battery life when you can... can you go a whole day (like 12hrs at least) with one charge?

So far so good, but its still too early to tell. i picked it up sunday about 4:30ish pm. It has what appeared to be a full charge out of the box. I plugged it in for the 1st time this morning ( tuesday) at 7am. I spent a solid 2 hours straight setting it up and playing sunday night. then spent another solid hour on it browsing and lay last night. Other than that there was some texting and a couple phone calls through out the day monday. Charges pretty quick also. From 14% to full in about 1 1/2 hours.

Agreed. I think a week or so, after it's set up, and you've gone through maybe complete charge / discharge cycles. And I would do them from full charge till the unit shut down. I don't think the estimate would be accurate otherwise.

so far so good here :smokingsomb:
