Anybody looking at moving to the G2?

Pay full price or get lucky?

$200. Got lucky.... i knew the guy working at a 3rd party store. Convinced me to do it. He had the HTC One with 73gb of data use on his unlimited plan.

:D

i waltzed in after visiting the gamestop (paying off gta) next door not even knowing that this phone just came out. went home. checked the G2, S4, and the One. G2 had the highest specs. went back in and went back next door to gamestop to pick up my reservation ticket

Well, now that Dan R. found a way around the locked bootloader, it's going to be even harder to choose. I guess it's going to come around to what is still around when I have cash again to buy my next phone.

Dan Rosenberg's Loki Tool Now Works Around The Locked Bootloader On AT&T And Verizon LG G2 Models

I saw that last night, I was going to post it this morning. There is also a working TWRP also. They found that thew rooted flag can be undone with an unroot, along with shell only root that doesn't change the flag. now I'm at the crossroads, to root or not to root. This phone performs so well stock, its a tough call.

I got the g2 and its amazing. I had the s4 for a couple months but sold that laggy trash and bought the g2 a few days ago and boy is it amazing. Smooth, great battery, stable, boots in about 15 seconds or less, has great features, and has root and TWRP and roms already. To me it looks like it's going to be a well developed phone over on xda so anyone who is considering getting the g2 should go ahead and get one because it's awesome. It feels like a huge upgrade even coming from an s4 for me. Coming from a spectrum it's going to feel like you transported into another world with better technology :D

only downside is no wifi tether right now on the verizon edition but it's being worked on. The att version has wifi tether working. You can use bluetooth or usb tether though.

everyone with the spectrum should get the g2! cough tdm cough...

MAn had something in my throat, but yea you all should get the g2!

IMUcarmen. So I am still liking the Spectrum, specially now since battery life so much better, but Nov30 is upgrade time.

OK, compared to the Spectrum, you wrote it will feel like I was transported / better technology. Can you be more specific?

How does it do as a phone? :smokingsomb:

Anything else remarkable?

OK, and you said the S4 was laggy. Really? Any other comparison S4 to the G2 you can make?

you said "OK, compared to the Spectrum, you wrote it will feel like I was transported / better technology. Can you be more specific? " - Its just a much much much better device in every way. Screen, function, features, battery, looks, camera, usability, etc...It would take too much typing to go into all the details but do some research on youtube and watch videos and then go into a store and use one and you will see. When I use my spectrum now it really feels dated and slow. You all must remember how I praised beta 4 on my spectrum and thats what I still have on it now but now when I use my spectrum it feels so slow and crappy.

How does it do as a phone? :smokingsomb: - Great so far. havent notice anything to report. The external speaker is loud but does sound a bit distorted at max volume, gps locks super fast and functions well, it has some awesome features as far as how the notifications for calls and messages work, and google voice functions better than I've ever experienced.

Anything else remarkable? - theres too much! the whole phone is remarkable. Anyone who was given a bad taste in their mouth by LG from the spectrum or some other LG phone you should try this one and it will make up for it.

OK, and you said the S4 was laggy. Really? Any other comparison S4 to the G2 you can make? - the s4 being laggy is well known. Go on youtube and type s4 lags and you'll see tons of videos. Plus the s4 is locked down hard. I had it for 2 months and never even could put a custom recovery on. All I ever had was root. People were reporting that the s4 would lag even with custom roms on it so it seems that samsung missed it. Actually after owning the s4 I got into during a bit of reading on samsung phones in general and it seems that samsung smartphones and lag go hand and hand. I've only owned two samsungs and both were laggy trash so I'm guessing that might be true. All I can say is go into a verizon store and play with an s4 and play with a g2 and make your choice. Of course you have the note 3 coming and the nexus 5 and probably several other great phones coming before your nov 30 upgrade date but hey you might even be able to get a super discount on the g2 by then and if thats the case then you should definitely get it :p

Any other comparison S4 to the G2 you can make?

G2 has better camera, cpu, gpu, ram (same amount just faster), screen (same res, just better), and stock rom. I know benchmarks don't mean much to a lot of people but they do test the hardware and give a number based on how good at processing information your hardware is and of course the better hardware the better scores you'll have; with that being said in antutu the stock s4 scores between 22-24,000 and the stock g2 scores between 32-36,000.

Good enough comparison ? :D

"it has some awesome features as far as how the notifications for calls and messages work"

What sort of features? Are we just talking features that were added in to the ROM or actual phone features? I ask because I'd never stay on stock LG.

"Its just a much much much better device in every way. Screen, function, features, battery, looks, camera, usability"

How so for usability? What was added to make the phone better or are the functions part of the ROM? Also, how hard is it to find a case for the phone being as the VZW model has different dimensions from all the GSM models?

"gps locks super fast and functions well"

Are we talking gingerbread fast or just faster then the ICS Spectrum?

I'm not poking fun with any of these questions, but I've learned that a phone can me made or broke by the ROM running it. Personally, I have no bad taste in my mouth from the Spectrum once we had CM running on it, but I'm also a tinkerer and not your average user.

I think a lot of the features are going to be unique to the stock LG rom and launcher. I tested Gps the other day and got a lack on 12 satellites in about 10 seconds. This thing is so much smoother and quicker than the Spectrum. Call quality is much better also. I'll be honest as much as I loved cm and miss a couple things about it, I think a little debloating and I'm staying stock. Unless someone can get some of the stock features to work on non stock roms. Specifically the knock on, I absolutely love it. Makes me think what back buttons? I rarely have to use them. When I do they are in the perfect spot for how I hold the phone. Not really any cases yet, but a lot of companies are saying there are vzw versions in the works. The vzw tpu case is working great for me right now.

I ask because I'd never stay on stock LG. - pretty much everything built into stock by lg, they did a wonderful job. I will definitely be staying on stock based roms for awhile. The features like knock knock and q slide and the 3finger swipe to store apps and the neat pop-ups throughout the system actually have functionality and make the phone more enjoyable to use, its very well done, plus I love the lockscreen and lg included photosphere and feature rich camera software!

Also, how hard is it to find a case for the phone being as the VZW model has different dimensions from all the GSM models? - I like the back buttons, and most who own the phone say they also like it and I think you'll find it makes sense and feels better. The other added function is what's been built into the Rom. Its much to type you just have to use one for a few days. Cases are not in abundance for the Verizon model at the moment and there are plenty of screen protector options including iloome's tempered glass protector which I will be getting when it comes out October with. Verizon sells two cases for it but like Hollywood said there are many more cases coming. The cases for the other models do not work on the Verizon model I know that for sure.

GPS locks faster than anything I can remember seeing. Google now also functions better and faster than I've seen. Like I said before I feel like this phone is a huge upgrade over the s4 even, imagine coming from the spectrum.

You really should get one neph. I personally would love to see you around the forums! Things are looking like they are going to be pretty active. Someone posted a thread over on xda tonight about getting cm10.1 working. They got it booting but it needs much work before its ready. Another person commented that they are working on bean stalk so it's looking like development isn't going to be a problem either. We already got fully working twrp.

I'm not adverse to getting a G2, but I'm paying full retail for my next phone and that won't be until after I get a bunch of car stuff fixed, so what ever I do buy needs to be the right phone. The Moto X Dev Edition sold out in less than 24 hours, so unless they release another batch, my odds of getting one of those went out the window.

Promo code Verizon30 was working last week for 30% off online. That was in a line upgrade though.

IMUcarmen, thanks for the details. Honestly, your comments alone may push me back over the edge into getting the G2. I was thinking Galaxy S4 or HTC One... What I had read to date was really fairly superficial - but positive reviews on VZW's site keep incrementing.

I think I will go into a store and give it a drive. Yes, I would plan on running stock, possibly only replacing the launcher...

I hope those discounts last for a while.

At least I have a Spectrum and the collective experience to calibrate your comments. Very helpful indeed.

There is a thread on the g2 section over on xda that a former htc one owner started asking for other one owners to say why they left. That might be a thread of interest to you. Not having any experience with the one i can't compare it fairly to the g2, but i can assure you that the g2 is much much better than the s4. If the s4 were a hundred dollars cheaper i would still say the g2 is better, but at equal price there is no comparison, and you would be robbing yourself if you bought the s4 at the same price of the g2.

Sadly, it doesn't work on a full price model and I'm not about to give up my unlimited data plan.

That sucks. I was lucky and have a line to use to upgrade then transfer the phone to my line. G2 @ contract price + 30% OFF and retain unlimited data.

AWWWW Poo Poo
Looks like spectrum development will probably fade away into obscurity..............
I wish I had received my spectrum back when everyone else did; it is my first phone, and I came in LATE......
Oh well. And I have a ways to go before my contract is up, so I'll always be a year behind the forum. But I learned a lot, I've got to say that.
