Anymore OTA updates for Droid?

Ok, so back in early December, we got 2.2.1, but do you think anymore OTA updates will come for Droid? I have been hearing Droid could run GB...in fact, the Nexus one, I have heard could receive GB also, as it is about as old as Droid and received every one of the updates so far. I think they may push another update or 2, because the D1 is still the #1 Android device in the world being used, and I think they may support it thru the end of this year. I am rooted and fixing to run GB when it is ready, but there are a lot of people who don't want to root, so the question is, are they stuck with Froyo, or will they get a system update to GB?

I have been hearing people having problems with poor battery life, constant reboots and other bad things. I hope GB fixes this or they push an update fixing these issues. Leaving millions on a system that has these problems could scare off customers from Motorola & Android all together. Hope they get this fixed

Of I had to guess I would say the Droid will get a ota for 2.2.2 but 2.3 is unlikely via ota

Dang...hope they get a good update or something for them. Leaving them with froyo would be rough I think. FroYo had many bugs

2.2.2? What? AFAIK the next update is going to be 2.3. But I'm just going off what is on AOSP. . . .

2.2.2 is the update that the Nexus 1 just got to fix the sms bug of texts going to the wrong person.

I am speculating when I say I dont think the droid will get 2.3. My reasoning is that the lack of sufficient ram. Apparently thats whats causing the issues 2.3 roms are currently having on the droid.

Yeah, & they still don't have a 100% Froyo rom either. Having problems pimarily with the camcorder. This is why I came to stock again. Everything functional here. I use my camcorder a lot and need to work without cutting out and messing up audio. I had a video mess up I took of my great niece and she was doing cute baby things and the video messed up on recording.

Remember, the ROMs for the DROID are released by Motorola and pushed out by VZW. If Moto makes a 2.3 for the DROID, then we'll get it. If not, then we'll have to be rooted to get it.

Interestingly enough, I thought I also read that the Nexus S got a 2.3.2 update fixing that same bug....

Hmm, I never used the camcorder aspect of the DROID since FroYo came out, so never knew this was an issue.

@all - FWIW - I am running a CM7 nightly (built off the AOSP GB Source) and I can say that:

  1. Battery life is tremendously increased.
  2. The ROM is much, much smoother even at 800 MHz (back to running 1000 for me though)
  3. Don't know if it is a CM7 specific thing or not, but I now have more apps installed on my DROID than I ever did before - and I have well over 120 MB free of app space.

Well I hope we get an update. Bought the phone 1 year ago and now it is slower than anything I've ever had. Not normal it takes 10 seconds for the home icon to show up and the app menu to take about 20 seconds. Doesn't happen all the time, but I wish I would know what's going on... The weeks pass by and its getting worst. This thing is just like windows, keeps getting slower.

The age of the phone has nothing to do with getting updates. The Eris has long since been put to rest while the Droid got FroYo. To then compare the N1 to the Droid leads to problems because the hardware is different (very different) and allows for certain features of OS updates to run natively. Which is why the Droid never got the hotspot capability while the D2, Dx, etc., did.

Because of these limitations, future OS updates will be halted eventually. However, I have read from a few sites that the Droid may end up getting Gingerbread. GB brings nothing groundbreaking in terms of features. It was said before, when FroYo came to the Droid, but I really think that if GB were to come to the Droid, it will truly be the last firmware upgrade for the Droid as Honeycomb seems to be optimized for tablets (could come to phones too, but why would VZW worry about the Droid at that point?) and Ice Cream (Sandwich?) will be perhaps sometime this summer. I think at that point the firmware will change from 2.X to 3.0 (I don't think Honeycomb is 3.X, yet) and that will usher in the new features that will be just for phones coming out around that time.

I haven't heard of this bug? Is it fixed in most current ROMS? Specifically, Project Elite?

The more apps you have the slower it runs. the more thins you have stored in memory (SMS< call log, etc.) the slower it runs.
Not exactly. Unless you're extremely low on storage space the amount of storage used doesn't really matter. Now, number of apps using up resources such as CPU and RAM do matter. Storage != RAM despite the seemingly common misunderstanding.

I've had this issue since I've rooted and OC'd. But I found that the video skipping while recording only happens if your CPU is OC'd. If I go into SetCPU and set the clock speed to 600 MHz, then I have no more issues with recording. Took me forever to figure this out. Hope this helps!
