Anyone else getting fed up?

I'm a game and I think its silly to play games on a phone, its just not fun. The only games ill play on a phone are card or puzzle games. If I want to play a game ill grab a PS3, PC, PSP, or DS. I agree that its a big market, I just don't see why. Can anyone point me in a direction to change my mind?

I am an avid gamer myself, and I dont see a good reason why we should game on our phones so much. You wont have the same experience as you would with a PC, or a console. But then again, im a hardcore PC gamer.

All I miss from my Blackberry days - and it is a pet peeve, but a livable one - is the BIS backend. I spent hours trying to set up the abomination that is my employer's email system on my X while it took less than 15 seconds on VZW's BIS page.

When I do start to get fed up, I look at my X and remember that I no longer have to carry a separate metronome, tuner, and grade book with me between schools. Life is much easier now.

This has gone from an iPhone vs. X to a RIM vs. X - whats next?

I did like my storm 1, my memory held around .5mb free but the phone worked as it should. And I was honestly one of the only people who liked surepress - but swype still blows that out of the water, finally I can type with one hand vertically! and don't even get me started with the voice-text, and the amusing text-voice..

If ya don't like it, fine, sell it, break contract, start over - this country is still "some-what" free that way.

I respect your opinion but don't share it. While a mobile platform will never have Fallout: Vegas or Bioshock, there still are great games available which are scaled appropriately. Those games share more with casual games like Bejeweled than Halo. Apple has them and I believe Android will but they're not here yet.

For the record I also own all the platforms you mentioned as well as an XBox360. I mention this to enhance my gaming cred. :D

Similar to above, they are different experiences. You can't get the depth from a DS game that you would from a full-on PC game. That doesn't mean all DS games suck. Most do but some are pretty decent.

If you're not into mobile gaming that's cool, I have no issue with it. That doesn't mean it's not a lot of fun for many people. I think football is stupid but clearly there are a lot of fans. To each their own.

I know damn well I'm not changing anybody's opinion, I'm just having fun with the debate.

How do I get these games?

I searched in the market and I can't find them.

Funny I still see people saying we dont have games. I just lmao! There are MANY killer game available for Android. For example these games take a dump on angry birds!

ANDROID HAS HQ GAMES!

The ones in the videos are from gameloft which you have to get from their site. You have to use your pc. Click the link towards the end of each video and it'll take you there to try a free demo of each game. They're great and totally worth it. They send the download link to your phone via mms. Most of the games on my list are in the market.

I think what it comes down to is... this phone should be AWESOME. It has a lot of great features, and plenty of horsepower... but it's glitchy, not that fast, and somewhat restrictive.

The iPhone has been out for several years, and seems considerably faster than my Droid X (I came from a 3GS). Overall, I really like the X. However, I do question why I had to download Launcher Pro in order to get it to scroll smoothly. Why does something as simple as unlocking the phone seem so glitchy? Why can't I remove Blockbuster, Skype, Talk, City ID, Corporate Directory, Latitude and Places from my phone (maybe there is a way to remove them, but I haven't found it yet... I'm still new to this)? Plus, I shouldn't have to root my phone to get it to work properly.

We pay a fair amount of money initially for these phones, and also pay monthly for their service. I don't think it's unfair to expect this technology to work properly out of the box.

I also think that the reason Froyo is brought up so much is that we're all hoping that it will fix the majority of the issues we're having. Bottom line... this phone should be a rocket... but it performs like a diesel pickup out of the box.

My $0.02

I'll play certain games if I have a slider keyboard, like RPG and stuff, even with touchscreen if it is well-made. Just not FPS or anything along that line

Could you guys be more wrong?! Try the free demos from gameloft in my other post and then tell me you can't enjoy games on the DX.

One answer to all of your questions is 'smartphone'

iPhone works, because it does not allow the user to decide how it works. Android is the other way round, it does not limit the amount of apps running etc., etc. If you are a person who prefers to be told how thing should work you are an iPhone and not an Android phone.

I had to laugh at this -- not at you, but at your statement about the X being a diesel pickup out of the box. Coming from a BB Storm I, I'll have to disagree with that, but that's because our perspective is so different.

The thing to keep in mind is that a "stock" Android out of the box is somewhat plain and supplied with the basics (with a few sensible apps). I mean by way of customization and the apps that are included, not the OS itself. This leaves it up to the user to customize as desired, to build the phone personally, sort of like buying a kit and assembling it. They give you the foundation and you build on it. So someone who leaves an Android phone as-is out of the box (or with just a few tweaks) doesn't use the phone to its potential. But that's a good thing, because if Motorola, HTC and the others pre-built the "kit" for you with what they wanted, then we would all be stuck with the same thing, with less personalization. They can't determine what applications and customizations the users want, rather, the users select what they want or need to use.

Of course, this is all well and good as long as the phone isn't so locked down by the vendor that it wrecks the whole idea.

Just my 2 cents, and I'm sure it will make some laugh as well.

Let's not forget how different (read simple) the iPhone interface is from Android. It is literally 16 static icons. That's all the system needs to account for when you switch screens. I'm pretty sure my graphing calculator can do that smoothly.

The fact that Android's interface can be smooth enough by default (Blur), and just as smooth if not faster (LP+) is a testament to our hardware and Google's platform.

I mean, there's more going on in my LP+ Twitter widget than there is on the entire iOS interface. Enough said.

It's like comparing a fruit to a robot. Oh wait.. :)

I like to say that iOS is the Android app drawer :D

Because in the world of technology, you're damned if you do, damned if you don't.

The answer is simple. Blur doesn't cache the apps like launcher pro does, and launcher pro also probably grabs process priority over background processes, where blur plays nicely in multitasking.

This is why LP grinds (if you have a million apps like some of us) when first opening the app drawer. It's rebuilding it's cache and storing that in memory.

Blur on the other hand, probably doesn't do that, but as a result has a smaller memory footprint, which means you can open more apps at once - which means it's faster to switch between them as they're already in memory. It's a tradeoff with real advantages and arguments for either scenario. Most people however seem to put priority on visuals, not realizing a true multitasking system can always exhibit "lag" as other processes ask for and receive CPU time.

My old Macs running OS 9 when CPUs were only 50MHz had a butter smooth interface. It's because the interface grabbed 100% of the CPU. Great for seeming fast. Not so great for doing more than one thing at a time.

So, it's all a matter of preference really. Personally it annoys me far more having to wait for an app to launch because it was purged from memory than it annoys me the scrolling on an app drawer might pause for a hundredth of a second here or there.

Not 100% true. LP has a memory setting where you can adjust the amount of memory for it to use and when you want smoother homescreen you give it more memory, but wanting better multitasking experience you give it less memory.

You always have a choice and you decide.

Thanks for the input, but I believe that I stated that I chose VZW for my network because of their coverage, and they don't offer another platform for a high-end smartphone other than Android. This is the 2nd Android phone I've owned, and the platform as whole isn't bad; it just isn't progressing. It's been out for years now, and the best game on it is Angry Birds Beta. Top games are still emulators that run illegal ROMs. My lock screen lags on a 1 ghz phone. I love the idea of Android, it's just being bastardized by carriers and I thought it would have made more progress by now to a full-fledged platform with dev support.
Also, I'm not blaming anyone for me not liking Android, and I didn't in this post. Have I asked for someone else to be culpable? I'm just lamenting my particular situation right now and wanted to see if anyone else was having a similar experience.

1 year ? How many game are you expecting in a year. I remember the iphones store wasn't exactly brimming with games, or even good apps, after 1 year either. Gamesoft has some nice games they just don't use the market.

The lag as a fix its called Launcher Pro :-)

Gingerbread should fix alot of the choppy scrolling as I think they will finally use the gpu to render the UI. Here's to hoping.

Personally I think Android is moving along at a very rapid pace but It is new so they will need some time to get it all just right. Apple had years to perfect the iphone before release and Google just jumped in
Give them time.

That might be the case, but the problem would be the phone, which is my point. I have the same game on 2 different platforms, it runs laggy on my X. We could probably have people vote on this and get mixed results, which is again my point. There is no consistent quality with Android right now.

Could that be because we have so many choices? They're like PC's everyone loads something different on them. And frankly after reading all your complaints it's obvious you don't know anything about your phone. You have no idea how to go into any apps settings, you have no idea what apps are system apps installed by Moto, You think every app should work the way you want it to or should (like a programmer could every make everyone happy), You think your phone should be a super advances hand held gaming device with a market full of top notch games after only 1 year.

I don't mind people complaining but when your to lazy to learn the phone and how to operate it and would rather rant, is that the phones/OS fault are yours? You started off fine but after your list of whats not working and 99% of them have easy fixes or setting you could have changed you lost me.

Go get an iPhone and stop whining

I agree, Android requires you to learn for you to get the most out of it, and some users just don't want to or can't learn. For those people the Isheep sounds like it is the right phone. So i would suggest that if you want the X and aren't sure how to make it the best it can be ask questions but if you really think its a bad OS then get the *phone.

I honestly think that you're reaching beyond your knowledge trying to find flaws in android. I'm not married to Android or anything, it just serves me best at the moment. This has nothing to do with google - this has everything to do with individual users. Android's open nature lends it to being more susceptible to the sorts of slowdown-over-time that Windows experiences, and it's just a tradeoff that you have to take. You -do- need to be more proactive in managing lousy apps on your phone, you probably SHOULD run a task killer to manually manage memory, and for some people that just plain sucks. Loading down your phone with crap, installing lots of apps from the app store, and not keeping your phone maintained WILL slow it down. Google prefers a much more hands-off approach to app deployment which means that they're not going to certify that the background service that handles RSS feeds in your news app isn't gobbling unnecessary memory. Apple rigorously tests this stuff and will reject that sort of app. The downside of course is that apple also rejects lots of other great stuff, as well. Google leaves the market open, and in a way you pay for that ability to install whatever you please, one of the side effects being odd slowdowns and runaway processes.

To look at a large group of devices that all can run any software the user feels like throwing on them, notice that they all behave differently after a month of use, and say that's an inherent flaw of the OS is about as crazy as looking at two PCs, one loaded down with malware and fifty thousand IE toolbars and one fresh out of the box and say that the difference in performance is due to poor OS design on Microsoft's part.

I'm not saying there's not flaws in android, but you can't take google to task for PEBCAK issues.

And the thing is he's asked and gotten responses but he just keeps on and on. Why should I this and why should I that? Shezzzzzzzz Reminds me of my wife you thinks everything in the world should work the way she imagines it should. Why doesn't the refrigerator give milk? Cows can do it why should I have to go to the store for milk LOL Yes at times she is like that. :o

I'm also sure that not every app on the iphones works how he thinks they should if they did they wouldn't need and app store. I'd like to see him write an email client that everyone in the world likes. If you don't like the one you have you go get a different one you don't demand that the one you have should work the way you think it should. It's impossible to please everyone....So you either adapt or find something else you like you don't whine about it forever. GRRRRR

BTW Bot was there a hidden message in there some place? :p Bots-suck

Oh well I'm out of here and headed to the big things happening thread it looks like some good news is on the way and an update or two.

OP I'm sorry for yelling at you I'm just feel cranky today;)
