Anyone else not ROOTING on purpose?

Offanairplane, I see where you are coming from with that explanation, and I'm going to have to agree with you 100% on your point about people new to the phones and Android in general when reading the comment about rooting and battery life would probably draw the wrong conclusion.

Using a word that makes more sense, is not being a lemming. It's being logical.

I had to charge my Eris every night. And at least once at work. And if I wanted to use Pandora in my car, I had to have it plugged into the car charger, if I didn't want the battery to drain down.

After I rooted and installed xtrRom_5.0 which was considered to be one of the most streamlined, lean and mean roms available for the Eris, I noticed no change in battery life. But then, I didn't ROM my phone for battery life. I Rommed for performance, to make a slow phone a little faster.

I was sure the BIG CHEEZY SMILEY FACE would imply that I was saying that in jest. Not to be belittling. Sorry you took that the wrong way.

I noticed the exact opposite with my Eris. When I rooted it and used SetCPU to damn near shut the CPU off when idle, I did notice an increase in battery life. Since it's widely accepted as life, I'll be a lemming as well.:D

That's a good point about profiles in SetCPU. ;)

I shied away from it, though, noticing an uncomfortable (for me) delay when waking the device up to make a phone call, etc. So, after fooling around with different settings, decided that sacrificing a bit of battery life was needed in order to use my phone the way I have to sometimes.

The best way to go, for that old thing as well as these newer ones with better chips, is stock along with moving things to the SD card that can be moved, and being sensible about media and syncing and background updating widgets (weather, Gmail, etc).

Yeah, I noticed the excruciating delay when waking it up as well. I eventually went the same route as you.

Thanks for saying that.

I knew what you meant. I just wanted to make sure everyone else did too.

Again, I agree with offanairplane (and pretty much everyone else commenting). I want a ROM that has been refined over and over again so there are no bugs and I don't have to flash new versions once a week. That's why I stayed away from GSB on my Eris... that ROM is still updating at least once, twice... three times a week

SetCPU is optional, I prefer it... and many devs incorporate what SetCPU can do into their ROMs already

How are you "hiding" the bloatware? Is there something I'm missing? i'd love to hide some of that crap, too.

When u have LP+ just Menu>Preferences>General. Just check the boxes of the ones you want to hide.

So is this easyroot like the one-click root for Eris? Is it as easy as.that was? And what kind of recovery?(if any as in Amon-Ra?)

You can hide apps in the stock app drawer as well. Just hit menu -> remove app

EDIT: nevermind... I don't think that works

Not rooting until a nice, stable one-click method comes out, like the one for the Droid X. Until then, this phone freakin flies. No real hurry to root it.
