Anyone else shocked that Lucas sold EVERYTHING to Disney

The problem with that is there is already hundreds of books, published by lucasbooks and sanctioned by Lucas, that tell the story for 50 years after episode IV.

True, so that wouldn't stop them from fitting the sequels into that storyline, or going beyond the 50 years. Consider that most of the principal actors are getting old and it would be harder to try to create films in the existing universe without intoducing new faces for existing characters. Unless movie technology advances to the point of an exact CGI and voice replica of existing characters (which I'm sure is on the horizon).

Of course as I write this, it never occured to me that they could jump back beyond the existing universe ala "knights of the old republic" i.e. the video game franchise. So many possibilites, so much money to burn on the production costs... :p

Disney is as suit happy as Apple. If you have collectable Star Wars figures from the 80s
and try to sell, I wouldn't put it past Disney to confiscate them.

Finally saw Avengers this weekend.

If Disney treats all their properties like they did Marvel (read hands off) anything that comes out has the chance to be great.

It's a good deal, who wouldn't sell? :D
When I heard about that, I had a great pain in my heart.
Still, I'm looking forward for the new movies.
What a paradoxical feeling.

Why is everybody associating disney with montage songs and those kids from the Disney channel anyway? Iron Man, Avengers, Amazing Spiderman, Pirates were all nice movies.

I'd agree with all of those, except Pirates. Pirates 1 was good. I didn't exactly like the fact that the pirates were undead, but it didn't ruin the movie for me. The second one was OK. The sequential pirate movies, especially the third one, really turned me off from the franchise and all I could see was "cash cow". Which is why the Disney acquisition of LucasFilm scares me. Imagine Johnny Depp as Han Solo? Or a Jedi? No thanks!

I don't think they will. (Note that I am a big fan of KOTOR) KOTOR is more about exploring the force and learning about how it effects everything. Less so about the space and lightsabre battles. Yes, the space and lightsabre battles contribute a significant amount to KOTOR, but to make a movie out of it? I'd have mixed feelings.

Now, if you want to use a spin-off series that would be good and not involve the characters of episodes 4-6, then you could easily do the story of Kyle Kataarn. Video gamers know him as the guy in the Dark Forces / Jedi Knight series. I believe there are a number of books about him, too.

Has anyone seen Lucas in an interview recently? He's getting to be that age where he's no longer willing to give all of his various enterprises the 110% that they need. Better to sell it to an organization that has some experience in preserving films and characters that are thought of as national treasures, plus the resources to keep his technology up to date.

If Lucas died tomorrow and left everything to his kids, would that be better?

Oh yeah, I meant the first. Did not really like the third one all in all, and I haven't seen the fourth. But anyway, JD is a good actor IMO and he can portray a Jedi if he wants to. I mean he has had more serious acting roles before and did well. Or Disney can cast him as a Jar Jar type of character. LOL.

I have to imagine that the contract for the sale will be really long and involved. It will probably have clauses that will give George (and maybe people from his circle of trust) some kind of creative input or control of the franchise going forward. As long as he is still alive, he could be penning the stories for the upcoming movies.

That makes me think that the upcoming movie(s) would be sequels. His original plan was for a third trilogy set of sequels, and since George wanted to tell the story his way, he might stay the course...

As long as Disney brings back Jar Jar Binks, it's OK with me. Perhaps they could find a role for Buzz Lightyear in a future Star Wars movie as well. Wasn't Pixar originally started by Lucas Film, before the late Steve Jobs got involved with it?

It was.

Well it appears that it's shaping up to be a sequel. They've named Michael Arndt as the screenwritter for EP7 and there's talk that Mark Hamill, Carrie Fischer, and Harrison Ford may be interested in jumping on board.

There's an article in EW on-line here...

Maybe the Empire will go back in time and use red matter to destroy Tatooine to try to knock off the younger Skywalker - but then Solo, who had been on a diplomatic mission to Naboo to broker a final peace with the trade alliance, was stranded but later caught up with the young Skywalker by going through the event horizon and told him how to find the boyhood Solo and and get Chewbacca out of the way as captain so he could eventually take over the Millennium Falcon and then...

Oh.

Wait. :) :D
