anyone give Verizon a hard time about loosing unlimited data and win?

I'm glad that works out for you, WuBoy. I have 4 smartphones on 4 lines: me (data hog), son (data hog), daughter (reasonable data user) and the Darling - but technologically impaired - Bride (what's "data"?). To replace our unlimited data lines into a 10GB/mo Share Everything bucket would cost another $80 a month for me.

Granted, we're on a unique promotion that Verizon undoubtedly regrets ever giving us: $9.95/mo unlimited data per line that we scored 2 years ago and counting. A lot of folks scored that one and have retained it. So that SAVES us the $80/mo.

I have a special account set up where a portion of my check is automatically deposited just so we can buy new phones at full retail every 2 years or so. The kids know they need to do the same thing, or they are on their last phone forever. If they want to subsidize a phone in the future, no problem: they splinter off to their own plans.

Sorry, the Chief is really good at rambling sometimes :p

I'm on that same plan. 1400 minutes, 5 lines, unlimited text and data. $200 all together (tax and all) per month which is a steal.

Been buying my phones at retail ever since they introduced the family share crap. :(

Just out of curiosity, what the heck are you doing? I am debating getting a new phone but I really don't want to give up that unlimited data, though I'm never even close to 2G. What do you do that uses so much data?

I stream the siruisxm app all day at work

which is why VZW retired Unlimited Data. Too many Data Hogs abusing the system and cheating others out of good constant connections. Plus VZW isn't making a cent off of someone using the system 24/7.

I think you give VZW too much credit. I think they saw $$$ with each progressive change they made. They could always throttle those who used so much they caused network problems.

NO it took VZW to come out with Network Optimization over a year ago. Even then the data hogs were screwing the party for everybody. Plus as a company why would VZW want to offer unlimited data now? They have the fastest and largest 4g LTE, they have the most expensive plans and they have the largest user base. It's all on Supply and Demand. The shared everything plan sold like hot cakes for VZW because it lowered customers bills and got them off of unlimited plans.

People dont need to be downloading every file, app, song, movie, etc while connected to a cellular network. Especially when wifi is present.

True but just wait till WiFi becomes tiered data and Verizon switches over to VoLTE and includes that in you data usage. Those customers that are still on unlimited data will have priceless plans.

When that hsppens do you have inside info that says VZW won't say when your contract is up, you can not keep unlimited data? You MUST choose a share everything or tiered data plan?

When VoLTE is finally implemented, there may be so few unlimited data plans left in use that VZW won't care if they stay of leave.

Just saying, when you're the largest carrier, you have more leeway to make changes than the smaller carriers.

And the changes that VZW have made through the years have been quickly mirrored by ATT. Sprint will be right around the corner.

Keep us informed about where you go and how it works out for you. There may be others that would switch too. :smokingsomb:

As promised... now on T-Mo. At work and around town service is great. At home signal is HORRID. That being said, I rarely use my cell at home so it's not a big deal.

Went with the N4. Speeds are much faster (and consistent) than what I was getting with VZW. No dropping data at random. No random buzzing/screeching in my ear during phone calls (happened across many devices and test devices).

Paying a LOT less but the flip side is that I'm getting less for my money. That is, on VZW I had unlimited everything but on T-Mo I don't.

Toss us.... Replacing GSM phones unlocked and out of contract whenever I want will be a lot cheaper for me than having to buy CDMA phones out of contract.
