Root Anyone had success changing boot animation?

I was able to get the shutdown animation to be replaced by putting individual png files in /System/Media/Video/Shutdown.

Still no joy on the startup side though. I continue to see SAMSUNG when I boot up and then a black screen till launched. Do the folks that were successful in changing the animation still see SAMSUNG first? I am wondering where that still comes from so I can delete it. I would prefer to have a black screen than that logo.

forgive me for not searching through and seeing if you answered this already, but are you running the stock kernel or a custom one? As far as I know the stock kernel (which i think is strange, good one samsung ) can t run custom boot anis.

also some of the custom ones (although none released in the last few weeks) can't run them either.

I am running the stock kernel. Can you suggest another to use? I currently have my phone setup and working the way I like so I don't want to drastically change it until there is a working Froyo build to migrate to.

The Kernel would certainly explain why some people can and others cannot replace the animation.

I don't know the advantages of other kernels so have not jumped into them.

personally im using jts 11/6 non voodoo thats available in rom manager. saps has recorded significantly worse battery life with this kernel, but cant say ive really tested that out, but performance is good.

from what i gather agenthexs 1066 kernels are great (but irc only, so you d have to lurk there to get a link).

dirrks (wish he hadnt disappeared :() voodoo kernels at xda are still some of the best out there as well. but only some support boot anis, but it lists which do.

I downloaded and installed the voodoo kernel. Did not like that it did away with everything including my adw launcher. Started to set up the phone again when I noticed I still did not have a boot animation.
Decided to restore my backup and forgot to disable voodoo first. Phone was bricked for an hour and a half while I used adb to fix it. Back in business now. Would love to resolve this issue but think I will hold out for Kaos Froyo. Anyone heard of a release date for that?

i dont believe we ll see KaosFroyo. the dev (i forgot his name) how made it apparently had it booting on a fascinate (i don t know how broken it was) but then his fascinate broke from an unrelated issue.

we ll see froyo at some point in some incarnation though :)
