Anyone have to send their DX in for service?

My droid X has some dust under the screen so I plan to send it in, but before I did I wanted to know if I should go to a local verizon corporate store first and see if they can just exchange it so I won't be out a phone for a week or more?

Also, I assume I should unroot it and return to stock?

Thanks,

Curtis

Yes, you will want to unroot before sending in. Easiest way is to SBF.

I'd go to Verizon and see if you can get it switched out there. I don't have insurance on my DX but I did have it on a previous phone and I took it in (for dust under the screen) and they ordered me a replacement. All I had to do is send in my defective phone.

I did have a screen issue with my first Droid X and they covered it under the 1 year warranty for free. Not sure if dust counts, but it might?

Curtis,

Unroot it before you do anything. If you don't know how to not only unroot it, but bring it back to stock, then ask in the root section or I can help you.

I'd call tech support at 800 922 0204 before you bring the phone into the store. They may tell you to, but I've had more success with smartphone tech support over the phone, rather than in the store, over the years.

Ok, thanks.

It will be annoying to restore a new phone with everything I have done right now, but i've had it almost 9 months now and just recently noticed the dust and want to get it fixed while still in the warranty.

Use titanium backup to restore your phone easily. SMS backup will restore your texts if you want to keep those. Biggest thing I find annoying is I can't seem to get my playlists to transfer over restoring to a new phone. I actually got a replacement X today that I will be restoring to here in an hour or two, and hate that I lose my playlists. There's probably a way to keep them, but so far I have'nt figured it out.
