Anyone keeping their hero?

I will be keeping the Hero.

Although some folks have money to burn, I just can't buy into this "gotta have the latest" craze every 6-12 months. As long as my current phone does what I expect of it (and it does), then I see no reason to spend money on another. The ONLY reason I even got the Hero when it came out...there is a known incompatibility issue between the Instinct I had, and the Airave device I needed after moving to a house with poor signal strength. If the Instinct would have received calls rather than directing 90% of them straight to VM because of the Airave, I would still be using it.

Like most of us, I am a Sprint Premier customer, and can upgrade in 1 year form the date I got the Hero, which will be in October. If my Hero is still working fine then, I will most likely keep it. The carriers sure do want our money, don't they?

With that said, I share the feeling of many, the EVO is just too big. For me, the Hero is a perfect size.

I'm staying on my Hero. I generally keep my phones for a long time (3-4 years). I don't want to pay the $10 extra for 4g, and don't need the video calling. In a couple of years when I upgrade to a new phone, the Evo will look ancient.

I'm keeping my Hero.

I'm within my 30 days, but, the Evo is too big, and I don't want to KEEP paying for it each and every month, so it's out!

Keeping my hero for now. Not that I am totally happy with it, especially the slowness after the 2.1 upgrade, but it is better than the crackberry i used to have. Upgrading now makes no sense -- have played with wimax/4g in cities where it is available, resounding yawn. Even if that problem is fixed, Sprint is not planning on 4g in Florida for who knows how long, not yet this calendar year anyway last i heard. Not enough new features in the Incredible to make me want to shell out big bucks to upgrade, at least not until my one year is up in December.

I will be keeping my Sprint HTC Hero. I have only had it for about four months now and I am still very happy with it despite the minor nitpicks with the Android 2.1 update.

I do not think I would like the huge form factor of the Sprint HTC EVO 4G anyway. Besides, I will not be eligible for an upgrade for quite a while anyway and I do not really want to have to pay an extra $10 a month for the privilege of owning a smartphone that I cannot even make use of the 4G network from my home.

Update is in October. If there is nothing new and better out then, I will be picking up the EVO, but I will be switching my Hero to my extra line I love my Hero.

I also want to keep it for tethering (talk on the phone and tether :D)

I'm also keeping mine as my main phone til October, when I'll be eligible to upgrade.

I love my Hero, so I will keep it as an extra internet-connected device to have around the house. Not going to keep it on Sprint, but it should fill my needs via wifi.

I'm tempted to buy a used G1 off ebay for that same purpose to use for now, but I suppose I can wait.

I for one, like the form factor of the hero. I also want the next gen processor. The evo is gigantic, and I am a pocket phone guy so the evo, while totally an awesome piece of hardware, just isn't for me. I really like sense, but think I am going to go vanilla next time around, because I don't want to wait forever for an update, like we have for the hero.

ditto lol

Staying w/ Hero. Size is main reason. I came from a Razr so even going to the Hero was an adjustment - the EVO is just too large for me.

staying with the hero for a few reasons.
1) Ive only had it for a month or so, so theres no reason to get rid of this. it works as i need it to
2) $10 extra a month is dumb...i can spend that 120 a year a lot better than giving it to sprint
3) put a case on that thing and i cant imagine it fitting into any pockets. if i wanted something the size of a tablet, i would have gotten a tablet. it has cool features, but do you really need a hdmi on a phone? Sounds like more of a my dick is bigger than yours competition. Also, remember when the razr came out and everyone had to have it bc how small it was?
4) Battery life...my dad played around with one for about 2 hours and it went from full charge to less than half just playing around with some of its features. Im fine with charging my phone every night (as ive done for years), but putting the phone down at 3pm bc of the chance of it dieing before i get home is a bit of a drag. Also, there really isnt an option for a longer lasting battery. The only current way to make a cellphone battery last longer is to make it bigger, and
i really dont know how much bigger you can go with the evo...its already huge
5) im sure by the time im up for an upgrade, something comperable, but normally sized will be available
6) Im happy with my hero

I'm keeping my Hero.

I'd love to have the hardware upgrade but can't justify the $10 premium charge for a networking upgrade (4G) that I will probably never see. I just got 3G about a month ago.

I am sick and tired of getting screwed for being a loyal early adopter. You pay top dollar and many companies use the public as paying beta testers. I'll keep my Hero until the EVO comes down in price... probably a year or two from now.

Keeping mine. Why the heck would I give it up after everything HTC has put me through? :)

My Hero's fine, I'm happy, and I hate being bleeding edge. Additionally, it's just wasteful to upgrade if you don't have a need to, IMHO.

Hopefully, by the time I need a new phone, the Android OS will have matured enough to not be a "OMG feature X is broked!" OS. Hopefully, by the time Gingerbread rolls around.

Well put. I agree with the wasteful part also. We as a society buy stuff just to throw it away shortly after for the next "best" thing, or so they have us convinced it is the best....

I will be keeping mine for a few reasons.

1. I just got it in March.

2. I will be unable to use it from September - March 2011 because I am deploying to the Middle East.

3. Since I am deploying that means I will only have been able to use it for 6 months. Why upgrade a phone that would technically still be brand new when I get back? I will be at my 1 year point then and can see what's on the market. But, to be honest it will have to be a pretty amazing upgrade for me to do it.

4. There is only 1 issue that I have not been able to find an answer for after I rooted and flashed it with Fresh 2.1.2. And it's really not a big issue, just fairly annoying.

5. I think the Hero is great. And although I am one of those people that likes to have the latest and greatest I don't see a need to spend so much money on a phone that will also have issues and essentially do everything my Hero can already do.

I'll be keeping mine, it runs fine. I am not having any lag issues, bluetooth problems, or messaging problems. The EVO is a little big for my taste. I am happy with the Hero. For me it is not even about the money, by the time I am ready for an upgrade they will probably have something in the Hero size with the features of the Evo.

Yes... absolutely!

I would hope they would produce the HeroII with a snapdragon processor. The size and shape and the ORB are perfect. I really like it and may keep it even past my upgrade date.

:)

I'm not eligible for an upgrade until October. I'll be damned if I give HTC $450 after the kind of crap that I've put up with on my Hero.

i would love to get the evo but i get phones wayyyyy to often and am planing on keeping the hero for a year or two:(...

i went and played a little with the evo today and i want it soooo bad so no more going to the sprint store or else i'll probably end up getting it.

I've only had my Hero since March, so I'm keeping it. Besides, it's my first Smartphone and I am still learning it's ins and outs. I see no need for the giant that is the EVO.

I just got mine a few months ago and for what I user it for, its fine by me. I played with the Evo the other day and its definitely quicker and smoother. Other then that, everything else is more or less the same. But that goes without sayings its a more robust phone. With that said, like others have said, I like the size of the Hero. The Evo is nice that its big, but seems to clunky for my likings to keep in my pocket. So I'm sticking with the Hero for a couple reasons.

For now, yes, I am keeping it.

I'm a huge "gadget geek" and love to get new devices ALL of the times (it drives my wife nuts). My Hero works fine and I really have no need to get the Evo, this may prove to be different when my upgrade comes though.

Ultimately, new and better gadgets are release all the time. By the time my upgrade rolls around there may be something new/better.... only time will tell.
Totally agree with Kelmar. Me and my wife have had ours going on six months and they're great! Not rooted and still 1.5. EVO is big (what a belt case) and no track ball which I like. The Hero is a cool phone that still keeps surprising me. TC

Such poor signal with Sprint, and the dialer lag caused me to order a Droid X, and switch to the big red one. Problem is a 21 day wait on the phone. So, 21 days more of dropped calls, and dialer lag.
