Anyone planning on moving to the new Galaxy S3 ?

Now that we have firm release dates for Sprint (and every other carrier!), just curious if any E4GT owners are planning on the move to the Galaxy S3?

I've still got another year on my contract (which I suspect is the case for most E4GT owners), so I'm not looking at an upgrade any time soon. Plus, it feels to me that the E4GT is still a pretty up-to-date device ... haven't experienced any major new-phone-lust just yet :).

I think an upgrade to ICS (any day now, right?) should keep this phone pretty "current" for another year.

I'm waiting for the S5 to drop.

By the time my contract is up in a little over a year the S7 will probably be coming out along with androids: Cocaine Biceps operating system.

They pushed the S2 so hard on people and then f**cked everyone that got one by failing to reciprocate with an ICS release. Now they're dangling they're shiny new phone in front of everyone 8 MONTHS after the debut of their last phone talking about how THAT phone will for sure, have ICS.

If there's one thing that will be Android's undoing or maybe even hurt the system, is the flooding of the market by these carriers with their latest greatest phones.

Hang on, I just got an email update: GALAXY S9 NOTE is being talked about!!!
 
I've been checking out the SIII for some time now. I have to admit that what we thought we'd all get (concept) was much sweeter. It gets to me the way these major companies market, and then build. For instance, they could've made a quad-core. The smarts are there, but instead it is still a dual-core. A 1.5 isn't a significant jump for me. I can also continue to settle for my 4.52" screen versus the 4.8". It's not that huge of a difference. As for the HD super amoled display, that would be nice, but am still okay. Not worth getting the upgrade. Not enough improvement. I'll wait and fulfill my contract. By that time, something way cool will be available, as long as the marketing schemes don't get as stingy as apple.

I have thought that as well. They are rationing out the upgrades to keep us hungry for more stuff and behind the development curve. The hardware seems to be outrunning the software at this point because of the phone wars, but maybe google is in on it too.

Since I've decided to enter the world of root, I now already have the touchwiz based ICS launcher on my Epic Touch, this will take a huge hit on the excitement factor for me since real world as I already have basically an SGS3. The SGS3 will not be noticeably faster. The screen will be higher density, but pentile, which downgrades it some, and not super amoled + which I could certainly tell a difference between. The camera will have less shutter lag, but the pictures won't be that much clearer.

I do like the screen wake detection, but other than that, I can't really think of any reason I just HAVE to have the SGS3. I passed on the EVO LTE because it just didn't do anything for me, I'm planning on getting the SGS3, but only because I'm a phone junky. However it will still have to really impress me right next to my Epic Touch for me to leave the store with one.

I was just thinking today that this is the year I might just skip getting the newest technology.
 
I will get the Galaxy s3 when sprint launch LTE. That is the only reason I will upgrade to the galaxy s3. Other than that I am 100% happy with galaxy s2. I hope samsung still galaxy s2 at a discount price because it is still a great phone.
 
I agree, i enjoy phone technology also, but Sprint just seems to be jumping the gun. Isn't this phone an lte phone? With the ridiculous slow 3G speeds, & "changing" over to vision network, i couldn't possibly imagine being without a 4g device with sprint.

An as for Samsung, the sgs III device overall seems solid, however the sgsII was much more of a stylish phone. This is a matter of personal preference, but Motorola set a damn smartphone standard with the razor max batt. Life. The phone is still slim also i would expect nothing less from Samsung, & other manufacturers. I was looking forward to enjoying this innovative battery technology in the SGS III but they left more to be desired.
 
Sprint suppose to launch LTE in July. I try to go one day without turning on my 4g and I couldnt do it.
To get battery life like the razor maxx you can alway buy a extended battery.
 
Im not buying one, 2 reasons. First I dont think its a huge upgrade from this phone just a little better. Second I will be moving to a city that just got wimax 4g last year so its not the lte early rollout plan.

You know what I dislike? Being sold a phone that in a few months was going to be obsolete, as far as LTE is concerned... Don't get me wrong S2 is great, but cmon.. these phone wars are out of proportion... and the marketing really sucks...

I alwas wanted to have gotten a EVO, so I dont know which way I am going to turn a year and 8 months from now... Maybe there needs to be a CPA program out there, by now... (Cell Phones anonymous):p:D:rolleyes:
 
I had a choice 2 months ago. Wait for the S3 OR get a S2 epic touch. I went with the S2. and honestly wasnt close. the S3 isnt a huge upgrade . No LTE near me for a long time. the slight speed difference would really be barley noticable. And I did not want a screen that was approaching 5 inchs. the S2 was borderline for me in screen size, I mean were going backwards here. Our phones are starting to look like the Cell Phone from 1987. Were carrying around tablets. Once we get ICS I will be good with a phone for the next year.

That's a good point and I see where you are coming from, however keep in mind most phones will be obsolete within a year of purchase. Sprint will launch LTE, but won't we still have Wimax around for a while? IMO we got what we paid for and nothing more (meaning LTE) I have an extra line and intend on keeping my Epic Touch regardless of if I get the SGS or not.

I hardly ever use 4g, because I live one exit north of 4g Wimax in my area, and 3g up until recently was fast enough. Hopefully they get that right at some point.

I hadn't thought too much about LTE when I started this thread, but it seems to me that the "LTE issue" is actually an argument against springing for the S3 right now. I don't see LTE happening any time soon, so why would I pay extra money for it. WiMax works now (although it's not that great IMHO) and will continue to work for probably a few years. LTE does not work now and I'm not holding my breath.
 
You know when Apple did the same thing they got sued and they went into damage control mode by offering everyone that bought the previous device a hundred dollar credit.

Samsung does it and we not only tolerate it but ponder scenarios in our head on how to unload the device and upgrade to this hunk of over spec'd sh*t.

The computer I'm typing this on isn't even a quad core. Gesus.
 
Dial us up some class action then..... I'll sign up. Everyone knows that Samsung is stealing as much as they can get away with from Apple anyways so it makes sense that they would try the same thing.
 
Even if I had been offered the choice between the S2 and S3 eight months ago, I would choose the S2. Of course, the some holds true today. The problem is that Sprint screwed the pooch in going with WiMax instead of LTE. That being the case, and living in SoCal, we have WiMax in most of my area.

LTE is somewhere down the road for the LA market, and I have no desire to lose my 4G coverage when I can see the antenna out my window at work. I actually USE 4G and it would be difficult to live without it.

Until there is substantial LTE coverage in my area, I won't be "upgrading" my S2.
 
The S2 is already almost too big to comfortably fit in my pocket (is that a SGS2 or are you just happy to see me?). Plus I get Wi-Max at work and home, and the GS3 will only have LTE which means a year wait before any 4G service in my area. GS2 FOR ME!

And let's not forget sprints good old 56K 3G speeds, which you'll be stuck with while your on the move! Gotta love them I'm wondering how long are they going to be in (1st gear) with these 3G speeds!
 
I am not even considering it. The SIII just isn't much of a hardware update over the SII IMO.

Samsung REALLY messed up ICS. They made it look way too much like gingerbread so I wouldn't even consider running a stock ROM on it (not that I would anyways, even if it looked like ICS). I have been running ICS on my SII for a few months now and I actually don't feel the need to upgrade.

That being said, I will want to upgrade to an LTE phone as soon as Seattle gets LTE which is in the second phase of the LTE rollout, so hopefully by the end of the year. I really don't see myself paying retail for the SIII just to get LTE though. Hopefully there will be a nice quadcore Nexus released on Sprint the end of this year, that is what I will probably be getting.
 
I realize this is a Sprint thread, but I had to say something.
I got my S2 from T-mobile about 8 months ago.
I am so sick of people saying these phones are already almost obsolete when I'm still learning how to take advantage of all the technology this thing is packed with.
I understand the ICS that was just released for this phone, yesterday, is garbage. My PC broke an hour before the release, so I'm still using GB.
Which is totally fine with me. I have not seen one single post expressing any satisfaction with 4.0.3. Mostly complaints and regrets.
My 4g is HSPA+42, which T-mobile just recently texted alerts out to us that after the breakdown in talks they are now investing billions to expand that services coverage area. Soon...
(It's 200 miles away all around me right now).
I wonder how this compares to LTE..

And this phone has the 1.5ghz. (Though I'm at 1.8 with Juggernaut).
And the 4.52" screen.

The apps, services, support, etc, will be just fine for another year for the S2, I believe.

I see no reason to abandon this perfectly awesome phone just because something more expensive came out.
If these phones are "obsolete" after just one year, I guess by the time I qualify, the S3 will already have been obsolete for 6 months.
Jellybean will be in the new Nexus, and the thing will probably cost a grand.

I'm not even going to pretend that I can keep up.
I have pretty much everthing the S3 has, almost, already.

I'll pass, thank-you.

Actually the next Nexus will probably be about $400 on Google Play. Hopefully they sell a Sprint compatible LTE version and not just the international version.

Either way I'll buy it though since I have both Sprint and T-Mobile :D. Then I just use my upgrades to buy phones and sell them on eBay (like I am doing this weekend with the T-Mobile free phone deal)

Actually 5G tech is already being worked on and it is AMAZING! (It is currently at least 5 years out though)

I have been reading some about it and it will provide almost infinite bandwidth at around 10gbps speed right now. It is amazing, they are completely rethinking the way that wireless signals are transmitted and received.



But... let's get back on topic. Is anyone going to be upgrading their E4GT to the GSIII?

Sprint's 3G service is not that slow. Not even close. Using Speedtest.net my 3G service just clocked in at 1.56Mbps down and 530Kbps up. Let me try again... this time 1.40Mbs down and 720 Kbps up. One more time... 1.54 Mbps down and 710Kbps up.
