Anyone planning on moving to the new Galaxy S3 ?

I see ZERO reason to upgrade from a gsII to a gsIII

faster, but in the way a 180 mph car is faster than a 130 mph car, they are both still fast.

screen res is nicer, but there are trade offs there based on what we already have.

design is uglier, the galaxy s II is a more attractive phone than the s III

radio/gps reception? that might be a plus, can't get any worse with the gps.

But here is the big thing. The SIII supports LTE that will start to get switched on soon, but it's only going to support one band of lte, I think their 1900MHz aws spectrum lte.

We know sprint will have refarmed 800MHz spectrum for lte use sometime late 2013 or 2014, and clearwire is going to refarm some of their excess 2500MHz spectrum for lte use as well.

the first gen lte sprint phones = 1 lte band access
late 2013 sprint lte phones = 2-3 bands of lte spectrum access.

That is the most compelling reason to WAIT.

The reason I got the SII was that even though I knew better phones were on the horizon, the SII was a nice enough phone that I could happily live with it for a couple of years.

I must say after playing around with the S3 for a half hour, it's not as huge an upgrade over the S2 like my S2 was over my Evo 4G. The screen is the same width, although slightly taller. And even though the S3 has a high res screen, for almost all uses, screen was barely better than the S2 screen. That's a testament to how nice the S2 screen is as well as how resolution in and of itself is not the most important factor in screen quality.

But there's no way I'd get the Sprint version, simply because of the lack of 4G (for all practical purposes).

The camera is the only feature I'd like to have, but there are apps for burst mode and HDR. Taking photos while recording video would be a cool feature.

With jelly bean on the horizon and the availability of the stock ICS launcher, I'm not seeing huge compelling reasons to upgrade. I'd rather just wait for the new 4Q phones to be announced first. You know there's an S3 killer on the horizon (probably from Samsung).

I think I may have changed my mind after reading this thread.

There seems to be a lot beneath the skin that you have to get into to find. That and my wife, who complains incessantly about every phone has yet to complain one time about the S3. I'm getting one to replace my Evo 3D on my primary line. Will still have the epic touch as well so I will have time to compare the two.

Some of those features sound interesting, others I can already do with the S2. In the end, none of them are compelling enough to live with terrible 3G.

Now if I had the Evo 3D OTOH...

Very few of them can you do with the S2. Even with the help of the app store you will still come up way short.

My EVO 3D is a better PHONE (meaning basic functions, searching web, sending texts, navigation, overall reception, wifi range, making and holding calls) than the S2. It's weak radios are well documented and the EVO 3D has the best radios I've ever had on a phone, which is why my S2 is my gadget second phone and will stay that way.

I was just pointing out that there are a lot of features many of us did not know about the S3, and for me, those neat features made me want to buy one and I'm going to. Today. But I'll still keep my Epic Touch.

I've been really going back and forth on upgrading. I think I will just because I really like the Galaxy phones and just feel like a change, even though I am still 100% satisfied with the epic touch.

This was my opinion as well. I think some of the hesitation is that the S3 does not make the S2 obsolete, but it's still a nice upgrade. The S3 is a LOT faster and has a ton of built in features you'll never get even rooted on the S2. Plus the screen is awesomer.

I just checked out the thread you referenced. The Iron Man briefing alarm is very cool and needs to be built into Android. There's a YouTube video in there that's also video cool ( YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.) showing PlayStation gaming with a PS2 controller @ 9:30 and MHL output to HDTV with keyboard and mouse @ 15:00

Well, I just "switched" to an S3 about two weeks ago and I have to say that so far, the days are full of disappointment, frustration, and ANGER. The bluetooth is horrible, it either wont connect at all or drops the connection, even in the middle of a call. Even when it says its connected, it isn't. there are several programs I'd like to remove but can't, and a long list of favorites that are cluttering up my bookmarks that I can't remove or even stick in a file somewhere to get them out of the way. On top of everything I find that Kies SUCKS. Samsung has a LONG way to go.

It sure does look cool, but for a non-techie business guy that counts on his phone to make a living, I'm going back to my old beat up blackberry.

Android in general is not as business oriented as BlackBerry and the Galaxy series aren't even on the upper end of the spectrum among Android handsets in that regard. More gadgets and entertainment than usability and functionality.

I couldn't disagree more. I find my blackberry almost unusable for business compared to my GSII. Also, the Galaxy Series of phones are usually the best smart phones money can buy when they are released. Right now, name a phone that is bett than the GSIII??

Galaxy phones are best at what? Not.call reception. Not internet reception. Up until the gs3 not GPS. Not.even close in any of those areas. And I'm sure for anyone serious about business, that alone would eliminate the galaxy series. Up until the gs2 th ui was lame too, so not.best there either, and it was buggy and unreliable. Anyone who uses their phone seriously for business would not consider galaxy phones top of the line. In fact my wife's company just started giving them out as work phones and have gotten nothing but.complaints.

Galaxy phones are the best gadgets, but from a usability standpoint, they have been no.where near the top, getting closer but still not the best at things that are important to.business users.

Like I said, I use my GSII for business and it works great for me. My blackberry curve is almost worthless for anything except phone calls when compared to my GSII
