Help Anyone return an Evo because the bottom screen is separating

I returned mine because of the wifi problems, which I tested, and are real. I also perhaps did not have the best battery of the bunch. My screen and everything else was ok.

A picture is truly worth a thousand words...PROBLEM SOLVED. I think even if you get a replacement EVO, it will most likely, in time, exhibit the loose bottom screen because of the poor design/choice in the adhesive at the lower left section of the screen.

WoW! Talk about a picture being woth a 1000 words there you have it. In time that glue will fail. Im sure if you leave the phone in a hot car or something it will delaminate at an even faster rate. This is an engineering design/defect. I don't care how many times you swap it out its going to happen unless they start using a different type of glue. It looks like that digitizer is just held on with double faced tape on the top and sides and some sticky goo at the bottom no science here more like a first grade pasting job. Anyway glad that mystery is solved now, even though its not really good news.

Mine isnt experiencing any light-leakage or delamination yet. I live in Phoenix, so I'm sure this baby is going to see a ~150 degree afternoon in the car at least once this summer which will probably cause the screen to lift. Now that I know about this flaw i'll be checking for it 10x a day!

I've got the warranty and if anything happens i'll be happily taking it back for a new (and hopefully improved!) one.

Thanks for the info!

The bottom edge of the glass on mine is lifted too and there is some minimal light leakage but I'm not concerned enough to take it back. I just spent too much of my life putting invisible shields on the front AND back as perfectly as possible and I dont want to go through that hell again :(

So im looking carefully looking at my new screen

and it does appear a little bit higher then the top

minimal light leakage -- 2 little dots ---

when pushed a little bit to check for "give" it does push down a little bit

haha

will now be waiting a month or 2 to replace -- or when HTC confirms adhesive problem has been addressed or when sprint can fix it in store repair

not worth the time to mail it to be repaired / continue replacing

my Screen has light leakage also under the home keys, im taking my EVO back right before my 30 days is up

Now Im glad my upgrade eligibility wasnt due until July 1st. Looks like HTC has a few problems to fix...some through firmware updates, some with manufacturing changes.

I have light leakage but it doesn't bother me enough to take it back and risk getting another one with a problem that is worse.....

At least at this point I haven't found any dead or stuck pixels on my screen. I would be much less happy if I exchanged it for one that had a pixel issue, and that could be on top of the same leakage problem on another device....It is a matter of picking your fight.

I hope they will just be able to repair these in house when they release this as a true issue.....

How long is the warranty for this issue? If it starts happening after 90 days, can ya'll get the problem fixed for free?

The only kicker after 30 days if u dont have insurance your gonna be sending it into HTC for repairs which could have a few day turn-around i would guess 7-10 days without a phone while they "repair it"

dont know tho... maybe HTC will ship replacements instead of repair after the first 30 days due to separation

time will tell but i would say get the insurance for 1 or 2 months while the shake down of problems occur to avoid being phoneless (i have both BB service plan and TEP with Sprint(Assurian)

if you purchased at Best Buy its $10 per month (supposedly if manufacturer defect they will just swap it for a new one after 30 days)

TEP - $7 per month (may require shipping it to Sprint to be fixed and be phoneless)

both you can cancel ANY time with no penalty but u cannot reactivate it after you cancel it

What makes you guys think HTC will fix the problem? They never did anything with the Hero. I went through a bunch of those and they all had the dust issue. It asn't like a couple of particles it was was a lot of dust that would get under the screen. I can see this happening to the Evo also. For some reason Htc doesn't know how to seal a screen. Between that and the grounding problem, I guess I'll save my upgrade for the next thing.

if they dont then we get new evo's every 3 months :D

manufacturer defects is "get a new phone" (/refurbed) card providing nothing else happens to phone in the meantime that would cause a void warranty or a deductible (if you have insurance after the first year manufacturer warranty)

and i think at which point after X number of times "trying" to fix the same problem are entitled to a FULL refund of the phone (at which time a newer greater phone may be out) to apply the money to

As I think about it from a business prospective...they likely wont fix the problem at a manufacturing level probably just at HTC repair centers / Sprint repair centers

We could compare the plastic macbook plastic cracking
and how they never recalled or altered the macbook manufacturing process as it was easier to just replace the top cover for people that brought them in (plastic would crack on edge where hands would rest while typing)

So yes plan on the manufacturing process not changing but HTC and sprint learning how to do the proper adhesive repair which probably will be better as they are addressing the exact problem and as a whole getting phones back to customers hands faster than changing the manufacturing process

Wow that really sucks for you guys that have this. Mine is not like this, I never had any light leakage and my glass is actually just a hair below the plastic on both bottom and top (and along the whole thing actually).

Hopefully they can fix them right for ya.

Definitely bad publicity for the Evo. Keep in mind, this is still 1st gen Evo. Every 1st gen phones have flaws and the Evo is no exception.

I purchased mine through Wirefly.com. They cover it for the first 30 days and then I am sacrificed to the Sprint lions. Obviously I am not going to replace it via Wirefly because I don't trust the current production run.

I do have TEP. Does this only include insurance, or does it also add a year of extended warranty?

If at anytime between 31 and 365 days I need to exchange it over this issue, how will the replacement be handled? Will they attempt to fix it in the store/give me a new one right away? Or will Sprint require it to be sent to HTC? Does the TEP factor into the decision at all?

So, what's the story here?

I purchased this through Radio Shack?

What options do I have? I don't want to read the entire thread.

By the way, mine is perfect.

But in 2 months? 6 months from now?

This sorta thing would be covered under the standard 1 yr manufacturer's warranty. This is a manufacturer defect. :( No insurance is required.
