Help Anyone return an Evo because the bottom screen is separating

Sprint is notorious for deleting negative feedback on their FB page. It's quite taboo in the social media world to do that. However, they keep doing it. Coming from that industry, I've actually never seen it done as bad as they do it. It's sad. Most people don't have pitchforks, they are just asking for help.

Yea, my point was that Lonnie isn't a Spring employee, not that they deleted negative feedback on the page. Now that you mentioned that though, I did leave a question for them on their Facebook page about this specific EVO issue. I'll check in 24 hours to see if it's still there.

Oh I know, I was just saying. We'll see how long it lasts up there.

All 3 of ours from Sprint.com 0002 Hardware are starting to do it, today, so just about a week of usage. Going to get replacements from Sprint.

Well my Evo just got in... I have the light leakage but I can deal with that. No separation yet but. The cutout on the back for the camera is completely off. There should be a even amount of red all around right? Mine has very little red on bottom and a lot going around the top.. Looks like crap.. Anybody have this?

I have light leakage underneath but I don't notice any seperation or anything.

Same here. I really dont care either. Especially since my gel case covers it up. I have a warranty plus insurance. If it starts coming apart, I get a new one, no biggie. Taking it back now is not smart because most in these initial shipments will have the same thing. I would wait a good 2-3 months if I was gonna take it back.

This is a cell phone, NOT a tool used for open heart surgery, or for brain surgery...

When you car hesitates, would you take it back to the dealer and ask for a replacement? He would laugh in your face..

When your windows computer crashes, would Microsoft give you credit for what you paid and send a replacement?

There are some things that just aren t perfect in our world; they may be fine most of the time, and be really cool and wonderful most of the time, but, every aspect of them is not 100% always, and, expecting them to be just isn't realistic..

Some of the pictures that folks have posted on the internet appear to be ridiculous; screen that are "separating" dont really look like that at all..Light leakage???
I mean c'mon, these mini computers have so much technology packed into them, that its inevitable that there may be minor things that we discover that were never seen or realized by the engineering departments in these companies, and, if they are truly issues, I am certain they will be addressed.
But, to expect a device built with the precision of a nuclear reactor, and the durability of an F18 jet fighter, for $199.00 plus tax is just a bit out of touch.

all all the screaming posts about this being " Lemon", and HTC has "failed", and there are nothing but "problems" with this phone, and just silly and child like...

Every piece of electronic gear has SOMETHING that will bother some people; maybe some folks should just go back to a basic flip phone, that doesn't do all this cool stuff, and isn't as complex with as many intricate parts as these things have.

If there is a serious manufacturing issue with your particular unit, then by all means return it for an exchange or a refund. But, have some realistic expectations about what can be packed inside of a 200 dollar electronic mini super computer..

Go ahead, flame me all you want.....

I tried the hair dryer and clamp fix last night and it did get my screen flush with the case. I'm still getting minor light leakage under the home key, but its 90% better than before the fix. The display is now flush with the case. I'm anticipating the adhesive heating up and the display separating again, so we'll see how long it lasts.

There's no real guarantee that this issue won't happen to each and every EVO out there. Replacing within the 30 day window at this point is basically just buying you time.

Exactly right. Even if HTC comes up with a production line fix it will be several months before the units will be in the hands of the consumer and our 30 day window will only furnish us with another unit like we have I'm afraid.

Here is a pic of my light bleed..if I press slightly on the screen it disappears.

I not sure if to live with it or take it back to R/S:confused:

Honestly, I don't care how many times you exchange it they are all going to look like this picture until HTC fixes the gluing issue, I think its a waste of time to keep swapping them out, The same issue is going to happen again and again until a fix is put into place. That could take months.

But they aren't going to fix it if people don't return it.
BTW, does the Sprint insurance give you a new phone or refurb? I know it's a refurb under the standard 1yr.

I guess I spoke prematurely. When the backlights are on under the home and menu keys, I'm still getting a good amount of white light bleeding onto the screen. The display is still flush with the case though.

This has to be a design flaw. Swapping phones probably won't fix the problem. HTC forgot to engineer some adhesive or a barrier between the LEDs for the home screen and the display - or a person at the factory is skipping a step/having a bad hair day.

I can't bring myself to go back to the iPhone. I REALLY like the Evo and the Android OS. I guess I'm off to Best Buy to purchase the $10 insurance so I can get another Evo if/when HTC fixes the problem.

For me, a simple fix would entail switching the lights off for the home keys, as I don't really need them illuminated. I assume this would solve the problem with light bleeding onto the screen.

To the guy complaining about the red ring around the camera being uneven - they are all like this. Not a design or assembly flaw.

Does it matter if its a refurb? It technically shouldn't have any problems since it was given a real once over by a technician as opposed to just going through manufacturing.

Yup protection from BB i think is best for the first few months

As from the sounds of it they just swap out for new one... easy easy

TEP from sprint requires charging a whole new one to your card and then you need to mail back the other one within 10 days etc -- more of a hassle i think but still good to fall back on once you get a good unit and after you cancel the BB protection

I've got both protection plans...

yes theres a 1 year warranty but warranty process always takes longer and in this fast paced world ... no time for that ;)

So I take it you don't know the answer. Why even post? It might not matter to you, but it matters to me. I paid good money for a phone I don't want one that has been used and has already had it's problems. Check sprintusers.com to see how bad the refurbs are.

lol, you've never had a refurb phone from Sprint, have you? Refurb only means -- it works, for now. There is always something wrong with a refurb phone; so long as it makes calls and passes basic functions, they'll send it to you.

I think you're wasting your breath around here unfortunately. I don't post often here but I read almost everything. The kind of people that follow tech stuff this closely seem to expect absolute perfection, and it is just ridiculous how nitpicky people are. Perfect example is the guy complaining that the camera cutout is "off" and looks like crap. Jesus...

Sad people, sad lives. Harsh but true I think.

I have some light leakage too. I just put my case back on.

Go into a completely dark room. It is obvious if you have it. Mine does. My wife's does not.

I just put my Body Glove back on. Problem solved.

I keep hearing of this, but can't find a picture of it anywhere. What is it that people are referring to?

Thanks.

Its similar to "shrinkage" only it has to do with tiny spots of light leakage under the EVOs function keys. I don't have a picture of the light leakage but I can send you a pic of shrinkage if your still not sure of what that is my 8 mega pixel EVO camera is standing by....:D

Someone please post the link to that Facebook message please, I dont see it on Sprints page.
